Rumbled...

Does anyone find Celebrity fit club inspiring or just plain depressing?

havent been watching it macka but if any clips i have seen in the past are anything to go by then i think its got bad kama, so to speak. that bbc1 prog on a morning seems better. tape it or sky plus it and watch it on an evening when thinking of dipping into the biscuit tin.

i did the school run last week then nipped straight to the gym and watched a few whilst running. lots of good tips on eating and exercise and very encouraging. they all seemed to do well without surgery!! real people, much better than watching a mixed bag of lazy celebrities [sporty][msnsmile2]

thanks julie

Trev - just in case you didn't see my message on the original thread - welcome back.
[grouphug] to you and your family

Sally D
08-02-2006, 18:28
Well I'm really fed up, lost 0, yes nothing today. Scales were showing that I had lost all week and today nothing[msncry].

Feel like eating something yummy to cheer myself up but have just come home from work and we have nothing nice, had to make do with a banana. Everyone is doing so well, apart from me.

Welcome back Trev.

08-02-2006, 18:31
Sally you did not put anything on so well done you[clap][clap]Don't get down, if the scales have shown a lost all week I bet you will have lost a few pounds by next week[msnwink]

julieanne
08-02-2006, 18:36
Sally - you have done so well up to now, so don't be too down about it.
At least you didn't put on [grouphug]

Thanks Julie and Julie, I know your right, but I am so disheartend, being very careful what I eat all week with no result. Last week I was moaning that I had only lost a 1lb, I would be grateful today if it was only 1lb. Looking back on my diary this time last year I was losing 2-3lb a week then which gave me an incentive. I think I will have to look closely at what I am eating and see if I can change anything.

Hi Everyone

a nice new place for us to inspire each other with our dieting successes and to support each other through those dark tempting days that we all seem to have now and then[clap] thanks Julie x

i have been out with the m.i.l and am just getting my lunch now!!! it will be out of the oven at 2.45 so i am trying to keep myself busy until it's ready cos i am very hungry[msneek]

i am going "green" today

i've had usual brekkie of toast and ginger jam
it's stuffed peppers with chilli beans and rice for lunch
and i'm gonna have my personal favourite "green" tea of chips, beans, quorn sausages and a fried egg[msntongue]
then i will probably need a hoist to get me off the sofa[msnembarrased]

i have watched the celeb fit club but without much enthusiasm, i much prefer the biggest loser on living which is on tonight and repeated on sunday night

i think it would be a good idea if we all post our reasons for wanting to lose weight so we can look back at them later when we need some extra motivation

so here goes here's mine

i want to lose weight to be a better role model for my children, to have the confidence to take part in ordinary everyday activities that i shy away from because of my extra weight,
to be able to buy clothes that i chose because they look good and not because they fit.
To teach my children good eating habits and for us as a family to have a healthier more active lifestyle
i want my husband to feel proud of me when we go out together, so that i dont have to think that people are looking at us and thinking - is that the wife!!!

Sally - the nearer your target you get the slower it will come off - sadly.
Well that's what I have found anyway, I have had many weigh ins where I've stayed the same or worse still - put on :(

But we're getting there slowly but surely [msnsmile]

julieanne
08-02-2006, 19:08
Mizzy - I could go for that tea - sounds good [msntongue]

Your reasons for wanting to lose weight are good ones, with that as your motivation I just know you'll succeed :)

My reasons aren't quite so apparent - I don't have a lot to lose - I just weigh more than ever before (middle aged spread I think it's called [msnwink])
I need to lose another 4 or 5 lbs to be where I want to be and for my clothes to fit me again.
And of course to look good by the pool if I'm lucky enough to get a hol this year [msnwink]

Macka
08-02-2006, 19:16
I want to lose weight because I'm vain. I'm probably in the middle of a midlife crisis.

I don't want to have to go out and spend hundreds of pounds on new clothes as I've got a wardrobe full of nice clothes that I could get back into if I tried harder.

I'm not a "big" guy, I only need to lose a stone, maybe 20 pounds but it's all on my belly and looks ridiculous. (You can't look nice in a suit with a big belly either.)

LiesaAnna
08-02-2006, 19:55
i stayed the same!! which came as a bit of a surprise to me as all i keep doing is eating chocolate!! but then having said that i havent been eating much of anything else!! to much on my mind
;)

nice new place to post on!! my reasons for slimming is..............i'm sick of being fat!!! i'm so sick of my joints hurting, maybe they wont hurt as much if i was lighter? who knows? but it cant hurt to lose weight for the rest of my health, such as hig blood pressure!!

lets do it girls!!![clap][clap][clap][clap]

julieanne
08-02-2006, 19:57
Staying the same is good Liesa - just think if you hadn't eaten that chocolate [msnwink] [msnwink]
Hope your day went ok :)

08-02-2006, 22:12
Never mind Liesa[grouphug]no chocs next week eh!!!!

Food diary so far.....

Porridge with skimmed and a banana
Skinny latte
Chicken wrap with salad
skinny latte
Cous Cous mixed with chicken, toms, beans (Yummy I have to say)

Later got fresh strawberries and a natural yogurt Oh and had lots of water[clap][clap][clap]

I also bought a mountain bike today...........

http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/Data/Mach 2/20062818622_DSCF0026.jpg

So I have another form of exercise, it was second hand from a friend but she has only been on it once!!

My reasons for healthy eating are much like Mizzys...........

1. Health and to live a longer and better life!
2. To be the size I used to be - I remember how good it felt!
3. Bit rude but to feel more s**y [msnembarrased] Extra pounds are not good in the bedroom[msnwink]Although no compliants so far LOL!!!
4. To wear fashionable clothes and look stunning and look younger than my years[msneek][msnwink]

Sally and Liesa....[grouphug][grouphug]

My reasons for slimming are

Healthy lifestyle to live longer

To feel sexy
To fit in my wedding dress[msneek][msneek][msnwink]

Ok day today. Porridge for brekkie, salad for lunch. Pork stir fry for tea with brown rice and more salad. Snacks of Muller rice(light) and more apples(I'll look like one soon) and a couple of nectarines.

Motivation for losing weight....Well, if you look at my user name, this sort of gives the game away. If I bother to do something, I never go for second best.

Well, I could say my first motivation is for longevity(!) and health reasons-and this is obviously very important. Also important, is to give the message to my children that healthy eating/healthy weight etc is the way to go.
If I'm really, really honest though, I have to admit that I like to look good[msneek] and be able to wear any clothes I choose. I put weight on in the blink of an eye, so if I put on a few pounds(say over Christmas!)I do my best to lose it quickly, before it becomes a real problem. I find the support on this forum really helpful.

Well the kiddies are in their beds and i finally have a little me time, however i have been up since 4.20am so it wont be long before i hit the sack either

a girl needs her beauty sleep and i've got dark circles that would frighten the postman[msnwink]

i have just had supper (cereal bar and some plums) and i am not at all hungry
so another[angel]ic day for me

Julie reason no 3 , me too, but husband does like the bigger b**t, i never had any, well hardly any when we first met and he says he will be sad to see them go[msneek]

Sally you will get there in the end, sometimes the scenic route takes longer but it is usually a more enjoyable journey, you have done fantastic to get this far only a few more miles and i know you'll make it

What fab cakes Paula, aren't you clever. My masterpiece was a my little pony castle - made the turrets out of upside down cones covered in icing! Then the ungrateful little beggars hit the teens and just wanted giant birthday cookie cakes from a shop! Still cake is banned in our house - still got the pannetonne from Christmas looking for a good home! Shame I can't say the same for the hot + buns.

Food diary for the day: not hungry for breakfast so just had a banana (smacked wrists, must eat more), lunch was salad with broad beans & peas (leftovers), toms & cuc with chicken, muller yog - new one of banana & custart, snack at tea time was celery sticks with soupcon of dolcelatte (and then I succumbed, ate the last unfrozen hot + bun!) & baby toms, supper was tomato pasta and large salad, all swished down with tons of water or tea (herbal or black lady grey with slice of lemon).

OMG![msnoo][:I] what a [:o)]am I. Just had heart failure, looked up the syns online for a bun, from 14½ - 6½ syns. Luckily mine is the 6½ syns, but that doesn't include the butter of course.

Well the rest are staying in the freezer and the family can take one out at a time and defrost it when they want one!

why did I want to lose weight? Well I have had a weight problem since I have had the children. I got down to a small 14 between the 2 gals, and then put it all back on and some. About 2 years ago it crept on again when I had to have an operation on my shoulder and it cut my mobility somewhat. We had a hectic period at work, very long hours, 5 days a week, grabbing food on the hoof all the time = weight piling on. Started going to Slimming World and lost 10½lbs. Then diagnosed with breast cancer - on the side I had my op earlier that year. Now I am trying to lose weight because I am due to have a reconstruction - when I have lost enough weight. Another stone to go and then I will be at what I glibly told the plastic surgeon I could lose in 6 months - I wish!

Now I want to lose weight to prove to myself I can do it, I want to be able to walk into any shop and buy clothes, instead of hunting round for 18/20s. I also want to look good for the time I have left.

Things I wish I had learnt when I was young:

Size 12 is not fat
34B was not humungous, even if your mother and sister only have pimples
Not to wear lose clothes when I was a 14/16 - as the pictures I have of when my girls were young I look bigger than I do now!

Twiglet

Those cakes are amazing Caitlin, and very yummy looking!

Like the new thread....although the rate its growing already we might need a separate forum! [msntongue] We could have a recipe thread too! [msnsmile2]

Now my reasons for wanting to lose weight. I want to feel fitter and healthier and be in size 14 clothes and not 16. I like clothes, dressing nicely, and when I can't wear something nice, I feel depressed and my spirits plummet. I don't want my daughter to catch me 'dieting' (as teenage girls are in that 'danger zone', she has a lovely figure, but they all have self doubts at that age) which is why I like the SW plan, as its not counting calories and making lists, its just changing eating habits. So I am doing it for ME. Nobody else. I want to lose 10lbs for me, I'm NOT trying to be a stick figure, I like my curves, just not rolls. [msntongue]

edit: Message to self: I want to lose it by July for the Irish Ball!

09-02-2006, 10:22

Hello Everyone

well i've just been given another really good reason to lose this extra weight

my husband has suggested a party in our garden for our 15th wedding anniversary in September

i would like to look and feel great for this

i am not a natural hostess and i seem to have lots of stress leading up to a party, once its under way i always have a really good time, anyway i have agreed to the party as darling husband has promised to make over the garden before the actual date[msnwink]

off to eat lunch which is a big brekkie!!!![msntongue] Mizzy

Feeling more positive today[msnsmile2]

Fantastic cakes Paula[clap]

Mizzy, are we all invited to your party[?]

Seeing your new bike Julie has made me think about getting mine out, Peter got it for me about 3 years ago and I have used it about 3 times, trouble is it's all hills around here[msneek]

For Liesa and Sheena[grouphug]

Sharon hope you son is feeling better, loads of nasty tummy bugs around here at the moment.

Have a good holiday Janny.

Oh and my reasons are simple, fed up with being a fat lump.

LiesaAnna
09-02-2006, 19:54

Lauren is now on half term holiday so will do some fun things with her and not stay around the house, dieting going well cos of the buisness couldnt eat properly back on track[msnwink]

Richard is alot better now and hasn't been sick since last night!...he's now demanding I let him eat some food as I've been starving him to get rid of the "bug"!![msneek][msneek][msnscared]

Mizzy...I think its a great idea to have a party for your anniversary....what would you like me to bring????[msnwink][msnwink]

Sally....3 years.....3 times......only once a year on average, on your bike lady!![msnwink][msnsmile2]
I had a bike but like you its all hills around here and the saddle on the bike is not the most comfortable[msneek]

Gammon, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms for dinner

dont tell me shes on the Atkins diet???

that would make me heave!!![sick][sick]

mizzy
09-02-2006, 23:49
No definately not Atkins Liesa just normal everyday food cooked without adding any extra fat and with all visable fat removed

this was my "slimming world" lunch today and i wanted to show that you can eat and still lose weight

the sausages are grilled 95% fat free Bowyers mediterranean sausages at 1/2 syn each and smoked back bacon with all the fat cut off then grilled, sauteed mushrooms, fresh tomatoes cooked with a little spray of fry light and eggs cooked with fry light too = total breakfast 1 1/2 syns

tonight i have had chicken in white wine and mushroom sauce with sugar snap peas whole baby sweetcorn and baby carrots which were all free food so i have enough syns for a treat later[clap]

like Fiona says DIET at SW = "dare i eat that?" and the answer in this house is YES!!!!!!!!![msnsmile2]

[angel]Mizzy[angel]

yes it's all round to mine to paaarty[clap] Paula will make the cake[msnwink]

Sharon G
09-02-2006, 23:50
Well it looks like what I,ve had for dinner apart from the sausages!!

Grilled Gammon, dry fried eggs,( I only had one ) grilled tomatoes and sauteed mushrooms????
....straight from the SW programme????

...so how many syns for the sausages Mizzy??

Sharon G
09-02-2006, 23:51
Mizzy...me think we typing at same time!!![msnwink][msnwink]

LiesaAnna
10-02-2006, 00:38
if i attempted to eat that i know i would put on weight big time!!!!!!it would last me for 2 days!!![sick][sick]

10-02-2006, 00:39
Last day at work today Yippee!!!!![clap][clap][clap][clap][clap]

Mizzy and Sharon - sauteed mushrooms?? What are they sauteed in please???

Mizzy what dates the party[msnwink][msnwink][msnwink][msnwink]

Well my food diary for today......so far........

Porridge and banana
skinny latte
tuna wholegrain wrap with peppers and green salad plus fresh fruit salad
skinny latte
steamed chicken with herbs, brocoli, beans and pasta
lots of water

Last night I had a cadburys cream egg MINI!!!![msnembarrased]

Really not sure if I have lost much poundage this week so may or may not weigh in tomorrow, but I have lost inches and feel much less podgy around the middle.

Now I have finished work I can concentrate on my manu planning and start really sticking to SW[clap]

Sharon G
10-02-2006, 00:52
Julie....you'll be spending more time on this forum now you've finished work!![msnwink][msnwink][msnsmile2]

Hope your last day went well Julie, I think it was yesterday, its a bit confusing what day/zone I am in, compared to you.
That lunch looks amazing Mizzy, I am wondering if I could find an equivalent sausage here? Mind you sausages in Australia are really revolting, its one of the things I look forward to having at home. In fact a friend of mind from Ireland, always has a sausage the minute she touches down in Heathrow, in transit to Ireland.....Ha Ha Ha! I wonder if the syns are based on calories/fat content, and I could work out my own syns on stuff here. Also the fry light, is that a spray oil, I might get you to tell me the fat content/calories of that, and compared to the brands we have here, and try and find a similar one!

I reread my reasons for losing weight and I sound so shallow and vain! LOL. I do want it to get healthier too (does that make me sound less vain ..... ha ha)

mizzy
10-02-2006, 01:03
Hi

kiddies have gone to bed[clap]

i saute my mushrooms in a small pan with some water and a drop of soy sauce and when they are nearly soft i drain them and finish them off under the grill, tastes yummy[msntongue]

i dont eat this everyday Liesa, i eat a large variety of food but it's good to know that if i want a brekkie i can have a healthy filling one instead of missing out and feeling hard done by[clap][clap][clap]

Julie what are the wraps that you are eating?

Mizzy

10-02-2006, 01:13
Mizzy the wraps are Sainsburys be good to yourself range (easy for when at work) they have 284 calories, and are low fat, salt etc [msnwink] Ready made in the sandwich section.

Be making proper lunches from now on though now that I work from home again[clap][clap][clap][clap][clap]

LiesaAnna

i would just like to say i am so tempted to join you with this SW diet/healthier eating, i did join once and found it very hard going trying to understand what it was all about, (makes me sound thick)[msnwink] but went with my best friend and even she found it hard to understand so cam away armed with the paraphanalia but didnt do much after that
think what i need is someone to tell me what to eat each day!!![msnwink] oh yes and cook it for me, better do the lottery this week then eh?[msnwink][msnwink][msnwink][msnwink][msnwink]

Liesa

it does take a little while to get the hang of it but mainly it's a lot of common sense and about making the right choices

if you can find a class the consultant will give you her phone number and you really can ring anytime for some help

my consultant Lorraine has lost 6 stone and has another 3 to go til she reaches her target
she's a great laugh - she took a call from one of our male members at 1/4 to 12 ,after pub closing, wanting to know how many syns in a kebab[msneek] she advised him to go for a chicken one with loads of salad instead of the donner with the garlic sauce and he would be ok - how's that for dedication[msnsmile2]

Morning all,
Had my oats this morning[msnwink]plus lemon water ,chicken& salad sarnie for lunch and we are having steamed fish with low fat cheese and leek sauce, jacket pots and mushroom stirfry for dinner ,don't know if i have got the combination right for SW but it seems to be working for me.

MIL still the same only now she is getting bored and wanting to go home!! she say's she has a lot to do,shopping and cleaning bless her,she won't be going back home but doesn't know yet.

[grouphug][grouphug]to Sharon and Julies Kiddies hope they are better soon.
Have a good day everyone.

mizzy
10-02-2006, 15:32
Not quite Sheena but if its working for you then you must be eating less and making some good choices when it comes to food

say this is a red day above

porridge is an healthy extra and you are allowed TWO per day, the bread in the sandwich is also an healthy extra and so are the potatoes

all healthy extra's have to be weighed and measured

the chicken is a free food as is the fish and the stir fry you can eat as much of this as you want with no weighing or measuring you could maybe add some hard boiled egg to your salad to make a more filling meal and i would have fruit and low fat muller or natural yoghurt as snacks throughout the day

i often cook some chicken portions to snack on on a red day my favourite at the moment is chargrilled lemon and black pepper ones from Iceland and they taste great or if i have got the time i marinade my own chicken with soy sauce ginger chilli and garlic

keep up the good work cos your doing great Sheena[clap][clap][clap]

have you asked for that carers assesment yet, please dont wait until you're desperate because then your choices become very limited, please dm me if i can help in any way

Hello everyone, serious slimming going on in here again I see, Julie, this happened to you the other week, you lost more the following week so don't be disheartened.

Me, I'm down to 13 st. 3 this morning (admittedly lousy scales, but it's definately downward) I think I've lost nearly half a stone over the past three weeks, even though I've had a bad back and done no exercise. That said we did lots of walking in Barcelona, walked for miles, so maybe that's been beneficial.

I'm not trying too hard I must admit, so I think it's a combination of a little exercise, and cutting out the REALLY bad stuff and I'm getting a result, so it just shows you.

So I'm rather pleased.

Good look everyone, have a very good weekend all.

well done macka, one for the boys! i want to lose again for clothes to fit better but prob to improve on running time for the marathon.
its different for the lads with the beer factor! we had a big barby party in august for my 40th and bought far too much drink as guests also brought some, so when everybody went back down south after the weekend we were left with case loads. even 3 lads up for the gt nth run weekend didnt make a dent in it(prob cos we bought more[msnwink]) so poor old me has had to drink regularly every night since then. its been a nightmare, but finally its all gone. we still have the wine to get thru but i have been drinking more water in the last 2 weeks which cant be wrong

julie working from home is good and bad? good to arrange your day with exercise [sporty] but bad cos the fridge is near[msncry]julieanne come on dig in keep on going.liesa too. am not sure for getting my head round sw. i used the ww approach the other year and probably base things now on lowish fat with exercise and keep away from the choc word! i will post one lb off this week to 14 9

10-02-2006, 23:26
Liesa did you know that food affects mood????

Food intake does affect mood due to biochemical messengers in the brain called neurotransmitters. They can control mood, appetite, thoughts and behaviors. The most food sensitive neurotransmitters are serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine.

What do neurotransmitters do?
What can be used for tiredness?
What can be done about mood swings?
The following material answers those questions.

Serotonin is responsible for the calming and relaxation states with a general sense of well being. High levels of serotonin can cause a person to feel sluggish and drowsy. Low levels of serotonin will cause intense food cravings. Serotonin is released in the brain as a result of eating carbohydrates such as fruits, breads, grains and vegetables to a lesser extent.

Dopamine and norepinephrine are responsible for alertness, increased energy with quicker, more accurate reaction times. Protein consumption causes these two neurotransmitters to be released in the brain. Good protein sources include meat, chicken, fish, nuts, soy products, eggs and dairy products.

Tired after lunch

If you find that you are usually tired shortly after lunch, you may need to add 3-4 oz of protein to your noontime meal. Conversely, if you have trouble sleeping at night, you may want to limit your protein and increase your carbohydrates at your evening meal.

Overeating, regardless of the protein content of the meal will cause drowsiness. Think about how sleepy you were after eating your large Thanksgiving dinner. This phenomenon happens because blood flow is redirected to the stomach, to handle the food overload, and away from the brain. Light meals, containing 300-500 calories, is the ideal amount of energy to maintain peak performance.

Endorphins are natural tranquilizers which are released with exercise and through the consumption of chocolate. Chocolate contains a chemical called phenylethylamine that is responsible for the endorphin response that is similar to the feelings experienced with a hug or being in love.

Mood swings

If you are prone to mood swings eating foods in their natural state is ideal. Good choices include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and dairy sources. Water intake should be a minimum of 10 cups per day, as dehydration is a major factor affecting mood swings.

Limiting caffeine and alcohol is a good idea, as they are both diuretics that tend to dehydrate the body, as well as the fact that caffeine is a stimulant and alcohol is a depressant. Sugar should only be consumed in limited amounts, as excess amounts (greater than 200 calories per day) will cause individuals to experience the "sugar-high" which is always followed by the "sugar-blues".

In conclusion

Foods with serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine can affect your mood. This is caused by biochemical messengers in the brain called neurotransmitters. Eating healthy foods and limiting such items as caffeine and alcohol will help to avoid mood swings.

Hi Everyone

another [angel]ic day for me

i have just baked some spicy fruit muffins that are from an old sw mag and they work out at 4 syns each for a large one[msntongue](BB's size)

i was looking for something to have instead of hot x buns over easter and these are gorgeous
i will post recipe if anyones interested

i have had the usual toast and ginger jam for brekkie
yoghurt and fruit
chargrilled chicken and bacon salad with low fat italian dressing for lunch
2 ameretti biscotti with afternoon cuppa
chinese marinaded pork fillets for tea with roasted veg
and a lovely hot and spicy fruit muffin ( made by me!!!) with fromage frais and mixed berries for supper[clap]

total syns = 9 1/2

Well done Mizzy, yes please post the recipe for the muffins.

I think I am going down with the flu lurgy, rushed home from work, fed the dogs, hastily walked them (still in work gear I might add as no time to change as was virtually dark), another dash across town to the sorting office to get 3 franked letters in the post - they have shut the Marlow post office, and you try parking at the little newsagents they have put it into:(. Then thought I would nip to Waitrose to pick up some supper - dogs in the back still. Well me and whose army obviously had the same idea, decided I would make do with what we had, choice of omelette or tuna & kidney beans. By the time DH got home (about an hour later) feeling dizzy, sore throat blah blah:(. He got a chinese takeaway and yes I had some. Will work my syns out tomorrow, I have a feeling I have to be very angelic tomorrow!!

Throat feels like it has razor blades in it, going to dose myself up tonight - hot whisky lemon and honey and blow the syns.[beer]

Just popping in before hitting the treadmill!

I've been on the forums a bit this week but have been really busy and there's so much on this thread that I can't do it justice!
Anyway..Hope that everyone who's feeling under the weather is improving.Fiona-hope you haven't worsened overnight, I've had my youngest off for some of this week with a sickness/throat bug. School holidays here start next Fri, just as a huge work project is due to start so will have to arrange childcare.Diet going ok-about 4lbs to go to target, but really hard to shift now.(Been here before!)
Having a few upsetting "family issues" at the moment too. Trying hard not to think about it all and to focus on positive things going on

Probably had about 100 syns last night, as followed my 1/2 pizza with a big dish of toffee ice cream[msnembarrased]

Hiya
Julie, thanks for that useful piece of info, still not 100% sure of why i am feeling so low, think its this court case all coming to a head after 18 months of worrying about it! feel very very angry after reading things in the papers to do with this case, am glad i read it as it makes what happened to me look ok, i did think that my evidence would be laughed out of court but when you get everyones evidence in it all looks better so am hoping he gets found guilty!, am sure this is the cause of my mood, but cant go into it on here, you never know who is reading, would hate to have a member of the jury here and have to leave the case and start all over again![msnoo][msnscared]

still not really into food, it will pick up am so sure of that, but its a good kick start to the diet!!!

Morning all.

Was very good yesterday until the evening, found ourselves with no children, youngest had spent the day with her friend and was sleeping there, middle one came home to say she was staying with her best friend and eldest came home from college to say she was off to her friends. Very unusual for all 3 to be out so Peter and I made the most of it and went to a country pub for dinner, I had battered cod, chips and salad and very nice it was too. Will have to try and make up for it today.

Hope you are feeling better today Fiona[grouphug]

Kitty - chow mein is one of the better options from the chinese take away and funnily enough its what i'm having for tea tonight

Spicy Fruit Muffin Recipe (guaranteed to cheer anyone up) 4 syns for large 2 for small

1 1/2oz carrots (grated)
2oz sultanas
1oz all bran
2 tbsp artificial sweetener
2 fl oz fresh orange juice
2oz S R flour
2 level tsp baking powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
2 eggs

preheat oven to 200c gas 6
place in a bowl the grated carrot, sultanas, allbran, artificial sewwtener and orange juice and stir to combine

sift in the flour baking powder and ground spices, beat the eggs and add to the bowl and mix well

line 6 muffins tins OR 12 fairy cake tins with paper cases and divide the mixture between them

cook in the oven for either 12-15 mins for large size muffins or 8-10 for smaller size until risen and firm to the touch leave to cool on a wire rack before serving

i had my muffin warm with very low fat fromage frais and some mixed berries (which i bought frozen and defrosted a handful to throw into the fromage frais) my daughter had hers with a banana and custard muller yoghurt and that looked yummy too!!!!!!

Peking Duck (with pancakes) - average portion (375g) 30 syns O 52.5 G
Chicken chop suey - 300g 9.5 O 5.5 G
Chicken & Cashew Nuts )that was me last night) - 350g 8.5 O 18 G (natch I had had a green day)
Special Fried Rice with pork, prawns & chicken (310g) 17 O 8 G
Noodles - plain, boiled 250g 15 O FREE G
Chicken in Oyster Sauce 360g 5 O 14 G
Chicken in Black Bean Sauce 375g 4.5 O 15 G

mizzy was gonna say 'do not' have the fried rice. its like a sponge in oil. get a boiled rice. sometimes bland but mixed up with all the juices will be fine.
why not set an hour or maybe 2 a side today or t moro , even get up early and go for a jog or just a brisk walk, then you can prob enjoy the chinese for little more than a 'normal' meal when youve factored in the exercise!. enjoy whatever[msnsmile2]

Rice, fried 300g 21.5 O 4 G
Rice boiled 300g 20 O FREE G

so on a green day you need to have noodles & rice (both boiled) with vegetables and one of the meat dishes as syns and on a red the meat dishes are syned along with rice & noodles etc.

Either way looks like you eat it and then spend the next few days with no syns!

BTW these are all eating out in a chinese restaurant, so if you cook them yourself and used low-fat methods you would reduce the number of syns.

Well today is Day 1, and I changed the menu already! I was meant to have Toast & fruit for breakfast, but had porridge instead. Is it OK to have porridge every day, as following a diet plan, there is a different breakfast every day, and not worth buying all the different cereals for one week!

Also is fruit unlimited? I think the hardest thing is trying to find alternate products here.

Morning all, still got a throat full of razor blades and virtually no voice, can only eat things that are very soft and liquidy, so on a diet or porridge and soup! No doubt counteracted by all the sore throat tablets.

really going for losing weight now, had a head start with the court thing this week, whilst sitting around chewing my nails only drank water for most of the day, had breakfast to go out with, and then dinner in the evening, so that was wednesday and thursday, no appetite on friday, getting a bit better with appetite but feel really positive with no over eating and trying to eat the right foods, going to be a bit of a test this week because Lauren is off for half term, so she will go on about food now!![msnscared]can i have, can i have!!![msnmad]

good to see Twiglet getting really into the SW diet/healthy eating

hope you'll be better soon Fiona, i hated having razor blades sore throat

Paula well done on staying with your ww, enjoy your running;)

Hey guys just because a lot of us are doing SW I think we still need to talk and acknowledge others, WW's healthy eating etc, we must not let SW take over here otherwise we may as well call the thread SW Club[msneek]

Have a great Sunday everyone hope all the colds get better soon[grouphug][grouphug]

I am really glad the WW is going well and nice to have you posting!

What trainers did you get, I need to get new ones as mine are really old now (got them in Florida sports shop a few years ago) Nike Air and they have been brilliant!

Hope the cold gets better[grouphug]

I intended to get Nike Air Julie as I've had them in the past and they were great, however I think my feet have grown a bit because one size was too tight and the next size up a bit wide around the ankle. Anyway I tried on loads and the most comfortable were Puma Complete, so I got them.[msnsmile2][sporty][sporty][sporty]

Not too bad this weekend, but I'm going to try from Monday to get a real grip as I feel I need to up things to shift this last bit of weight. I'll probably increase the exercise as well as concentrating more on sticking to the diet especially at weekends as this is my "problem area".

Julie, in terms of trainers, when I ran a lot "asics" were the make which a lot of the specialist shops recommended. I personally find some of the Adidas running trainers are good as they have lots of arch support.(Especially the ones with gel cushioning) At the moment, I am using some Sketchers(sports ones, not the fashion ones) and find that their support is good. I've also tried Nike and Reebok.Out of all I've used, I preferred Adidas, but like a lot of these things, it's what suits you individually.

12-02-2006, 22:06
Thanks Carole hubby always used to run a lot and he always wore Asics[sporty][sporty]

ahhhhhh...thanks Julie.

Twist and shape is like a stepper machine but it also moves side to side at the same time....does that make sense?
Supposed to be good for your b.., hips, and tops of legs.
There is also some additional hand straps if you want to attach to strengthen and tone arm muscles......

Poor Liesa & Fiona, hope you both feel better soon.

Good luck with WW Caitlin, its a great programme, I am just interested to see if SW is better for me, give it a whirl! Sorry if I am asking so many SW questions, its only because I am just starting off, and unfortunately doing it the other side of the world without classes nearby! I might pm Mizzy or Fiona, keep the forum SW clear?? (I might drive you insane over the next few days, who? what? where? when? why?)

Good luck with the weigh in Mizzy!

Hi everyone, as usual I've been out and about nearly all weekend so not had much computer time.
Think I've been quite good food wise but did have a few wine and sodas [msnembarrased]
Am going to sort of do SW this week, may not follow it strictly but going to try the red and green day principle.

Please post your questions Twiglet - we can all learn from the answers ;)

I've been slowly building up my running (on treadmill) but think I may give interval training a try at the gym tomorrow - see how I go with that.

Hope all those with bugs/germs are on the mend [grouphug]

Oh I'm not so bad Liesa, my boys have it bad though, had to keep one home from school, which is mad, as its still summer, its awful feeling hot and aching when its 30oC outside!

SW question! How can I find out what the Free Foods are? Doing a search it seems they come in a list with the SW magazine, but only if you buy it at a meeting? I also notice there is a Food Optimising Book, does that list the foods? Is it worth buying the Food Optimising Book , I can get my Mum to send it to me, do I need it, or can I get by without it? I've only been able to work out that fruit is free so far, but I think some yoghurts are too??

I am going to follow the diet plans that Julie kindly sent me, I think I have enough for about 4 weeks, which I plan on following religiously, as I am still not really sure about red and green days, and don't want to stray off the menus, in case I blow it! I guess I will get the hang of it sooner or later, and when it comes time for me to write my own food menu, I will have more info under my belt! Oh and what on earth is Quark? LOL.

fiona
13-02-2006, 04:42
Theresa have you had a look at the slimming world page? I think if you register to follow their diet for 7 days that gives you access to most parts. You can also follow it online but do have to pay for it. But that lists all the free foods.
http://www.slimming-world.com/

I seem to have forgotten this weeks log in for the owners section, and last weeks is not working anymore, so cannot get in and just copy and paste a ton of stuff.

Sore throat is no better, no voice still unless tons of water sliding down throat or lozenge in mouth. Porridge for breakfast, pasta with tomato sauce for lunch and soup for supper. Now starving but throat hurts too much to eat anything except cottage cheese, and I have eaten most of a large tub today:).

Am going to dope myself up and hope and I can sleep.

Half term this week - NOT an excuse to over-indulge!

Trev, disappointingly, I don't really drink beer. I'm a G&T and Red wine guy.

I gave up smoking and the weight crashed on due to major pigging out. I'm back to my usual food and portions (although healthier stuff)

I think I am going in the right direction but very very slowly.

Morning Mizzy,

Hope Joanna feels better soon, like you say so many bugs going round, my children are off for half term this week which I think is a blessing as the little ones still have coughs left over from recent bugs!

Carole, if I can lose a couple inches off my waist and about half a stone I'd be made up.

I'm back running again from tonight so that'll help, but my six pack by hols looks in serious jeopardy.[B)]

Julie, I think the slimming is a lot harder than giving up smoking, something that I'd never have imagined 3 months ago. I admire everyone here who's lost weight, and everyone who hasn't but keeps trying because it really is hard.

Paula the plateau weeks are horrible, but don't get disheartened, its not a gain!

Food Diary yesterday:
Breakfast: Porridge
Lunch: Fish & carrots/peas/corn
Dinner: Turkey Salad Sandwich
Snacks: Banana & Yoghurt
Syns: Skinny Cap

I had to swap dinner around to lunch, as I was working 2.30pm - 8.30pm, and a sandwich is easier to eat out on Reception! I hope its ok to swap them around. I was quite hungry yesterday, I will need to find out about these free foods.

awake now!

well done sharon and mizzy

porridge again this morn! managed only a tin of pea n ham soup and bun(buttered) with some fruit after for dinner. worked ok as i was at work, then no alcohol watching the footy[msnsmile2] one of the girls at work is dieting abd have got one of the others to start going to the gym, so its a good support network to reduce the choc biscuits and cakes in the office!

i have been known once or twice to throw their choc bars out of the window, which i suppose is a little nasty, but they dont need
one a day

LiesaAnna
14-02-2006, 12:31

Good Morning All

feeling very positive this morning, i am going to write out a weeks worth of menu's that i will swap and change to suit how i feel as the week goes by and then i'm off to hit the shops

Trev some alternatives i have found for when you just need a biccie are fox's very low fat Ameretti Biscotti they are 15 cals each and taste great with a coffee they also do a honey and cranberry version[msntongue]also jaffa cakes are quite good as long as you stop at one or two!!!!

i have a goodie box on top of my fridge which contains lots of low fat/low syn alternatives for those times when only a biccie/crisps or choccie will do - it seems to be working for me so far

have a good day everyone Mizzy

Twiglet
14-02-2006, 13:45
Good evening everyone! Ha Ha! Its 8.45pm here, so just got in from work and had a camomile and mint herbal tea, wonder how many syns they are!

Thank you Mizzy for your tips, I am going to have to use the syns calculator on some aussie products and see what low fat versions I can find for syning! I like your idea of having a syn box to hand. I am checking the list to see the free foods, you can imagine my joy at finding Brains are a free food (blah!). [msntongue]

Food diary today is
B'fast: Porridge
Lunch: Minestrone & wholemeal pasta soup
Dinner: Vegetarian Sausages (?Quorn?) Mash & Veggies
Snacks: Yoghurt, Fruit, 1 oz cheese, 1 skinny* cappucino. (oh the *skinny is the name of the milk here = low fat milk)

I've missed out as I could have had a packet of crisps from home, but not sure what the version would be here, so went without! I probably have a few syns up my sleeve, are you allowed to store them for the weekend?

Twiglet
14-02-2006, 13:48
Oh and on the sample menu tomorrow it says I can have a Crunchie for 10 syns, but not what size that would be.

Also if I was trying to work out the equivalent of UK products, eg my vegetarian sausage,do I work out the calories/fat content of my sausage and then compare it to the quorn calories/fat content? Presumably if they are similar in value, I just include it in my menu (and not as a syn) but if its higher in calories/fat, I roll the extra amount over into syns? Gee I hope that just made sense!

Tangerine for breakfast, 3 soft boiled egss and a muller yogs for lunch, all I want is something that is kind on my throat. Weigh in tonight, if I don't feel better I will not be going.

Twigs (and let's hope it's not too long till you resemble one[msnwink]) when am feeling better will type up all the stuff on free foods and post on here.

i have done really well i think this eek, di a mile swim this morning, unfortunately it was during the ladies aqua aerobics - i felt like a cork bobbing in the ocean[msnsmile2]

breakkie - porridge
lunch - cold tin of garlic tomatoes with 2 slices hot buttered toast
tea - sainsbury be good , chicken and toato italian style soup with a small can of flageolet beans thrown in and a buttered bun(roll)

Trev what do you mean by butter!!! i would stay well away from butter and try to swap for a low fat or olive type spread, i know what you mean about chocolate i am the ultimate chocoholic but really if you build a small amount in every day then you wont feel deprived and then the need rebel and have binges should be under control, i generally keep my choccie til last thing so it's something to look forward to
did you know that asda sell a low calorie wine?

Julieanne you go girl[sporty][sporty][sporty] i have done 2x5mins on this bloomin thigh trainer and i have been wacked both times[msneek]

Liesa how are you doing have you been weighed recently?

another good day for me
usual brekkie wholemeal toast and ginger jam
breakfast omelette for lunch with mixed salad
yoghurt, melon and ameretti biscotti for snacks throughout the day
italian chicken breast with roasted veg for tea
and fox's echo bar for end of day choccie treat[msnsmile2]

think thin lies, [msnwink] you be ok

interesting point re the chocky and the butter/margarine. re the work thing yest. was a low fat spread but today i borrowed some lurpak spread i accept what you say but fielded it by thinking that you need a certain amount of fat intake!! and the soup was 0.2 ish sat fat

re the butter /chocky . by looking at labels i worked out it was actually better ie less fat and sats fat to have say toast or a bagel with choc spread on instead of butter/margarine. amazing but true.

one of my treat breakkies is cinnamon and raisin bagel toasted with soft sliced banana in and chock spread, very occasionally if i know i am gonna use loads of calories either training or grafting

yes julie, managed to get away with 2 glasses, bout 2 thirds whilst watching the footy, my treat as have been beer free this week

Evening! I was good and walked my son to Kindergarten this afternoon, and then went for a walk after! Then after dinner talk him for a bike ride, well he rode his bike and I walked alongside him (he's 5).

To coincide wtih my starting the diet this week, the TV show Biggest Loser started in Australia on Monday night, so they are following the progress every night at 7pm, of 10 contestants, which is quite motivating, and good timing!

Food Diary:
Breakfast: Porridge (Just call me Goldilocks) .... oooh and like that idea of a banana in it Julie (I'm a banana addict)
lunch: Bacon, Onion, Mushroom Omlette & Salad
Dinner: Chunky Beef Casserole
Snacks: Oreo Biscuit, Fruit & Yoghurt.
I was allowed a Crunchie but forgot to buy one, so had an oreo cookie instead!

Have a great day everyone!

LiesaAnna

fed up with staying the same with the nurse so really going to have a good bash this week at some healthy eating at least!!!!

going to have a nose around ebay and see if there is anything suitable for me,
ooooooops forgot i have the hospital this afternoon to see the Dr who took care of my knee last sept, dont know how to be when i see him, as its worse now then before the op!! am getting up so grumpy as the sleep is so badly disturbed each and every night! am worn out!!!

15-02-2006, 15:29
Morning all, cannot believe this my bug is even worse. Complete streaming nose, pain in my back when I cough, ears hurt / tickle all the time, struggle for breath every so often aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Cleaner is here at the mo so had to get out of bed, took the hounds out, well that cleared the sinuses for a few minutes! Lovely day but blustery wind, the kite flyers were out with a vengeance and the youngest dog takes off after them. Have no voice whatsoever, and can only manage a quiet whistle - bit like with the gals, no voice = no authority!

I muller yog for breakfast, cannot face anything else. Don't think I will be going my SW leaders other class in Windsor tonight either, so will have to ring her up and croak down the phone at her.

YD cooked supper last night - griddled low fat sausages, mashed potato, beans & peas and onion gravy. Could have been worse syn wise and the gravy and potato were lovely on my throat. Think I will get her cooking tomato pasta today as it is half term and yes you've guessed, she is hard at work revising for her AS's. (AKA fast asleep in bed!)

Liesa do try and see the doctor again about your knee - surely it shouldn't have come back so quickly, and nothing like constant pain to make you feel grouch and less like keeping to a diet.

Have a good day everyone, I am reading everything, even if not saying much.

So far so good.

Had porridge for breakfast and tomato soup for dinner, also had a packet of ww cookies. I am cooking shepherds pie for tea following the ww recipe.

Looking forward to the lateral thigh trainer coming, hopefully, tomorrow, so hoping for a change around to my weight loss. I will join a gym when Eve starts school in September, I know you shouldn't make excuses but at the moment I just can't find the time to fit it in and by the time the girls are settled of an evening the last thing I want to do is go out training. I think my hubby forgets that after school Caitlin goes swimming one night, clarinet another, brownies another, tap and ballet another then fit in homework all before Tony gets in at six.

The last couple of weeks I haven't been marking down everything I've eaten so all change today and hopefully a positive report on Monday.

well the news from the hospital is i need physiotherapy!!! [clap][clap][clap] was threatened with that many moons ago!! but as there is arthritis in my knee and other joints cant really see what the benefits will be apart from even more pain!!!

then she tells me to look into losing weight!! "see it as your goal, in the fight to help with pain" lose 2 stones and the pain dont go, its a catch 22 here cant do what i would like to do as the pain is so great at times!! before the arthroscopy in sept, i could just about sit on my knees for a few minutes to change a nappy on the floor but now i cannot under any circumstances put my knee on the floor or bed and put any weight on it!! more pain now then before so i am not happy, but willl give physio a go, you never know it may help with the weight[msnsad][msnscared][msneek][msncry][msnmad]:(

sorry to hear about that knee liesa i know what you mean about tortured sleep. i fight my body to allow me to run and suffer on a night waking up several times. i have pain in my patella tendon knee cap areas and some nights the winter duvet is like an iron lung wrapped over , still summer is on the way.
the other alternative is not exercise then put weight on then be miserable then put weight on then be miserable then put weight on then be m. you get the gist

i snuck in for a quick half mile swim this morning before work to fend off tonights indian meal. i intended to go back at 4pm but got side tracked cleaning then hoovering out the car ready for the durham essex trip of the floriday t moro, mustve burnt a few calories there[msnwink]

also treated my son to some bottles of tiger beer for tonight but as he is only 15, i had best drink them for him. kind daddy[msnsmile2]

liesa your patella is the knee bone(that bar of soap under the skin between your thigh and your shin!) . must be like a soft shelled crab[msneek] i suppose. i think over time all your ligaments and bits underneath can get roughed up or worn away and probs occur.
that glucosamine also mixed with chronroitin that juliee mentioned is supposed to assist in the regeneration of ligament. you need loads and to take it over some time. i have tablets but take them sporadically. the other option is to chew prawn shells by the dozen or gross(now that is gross[sick]) oh the other option is drink tiger beer[drinkbeer][msnwink]

Me too Mizzy didn't get back into drinking after last baby was born, only really have a drink on very special occasions now, I don't even think about it and yet when I was flying I drank quite alot[msneek]

Had my stir fry, got lots of fresh fruits and a low fat natural yogurt for later[clap][msneek]

Are we all still drinking lots of water???[msnwink][msnwink][msnwink]

Some of us are drinking tons of water! In between the splutters etc[msncry]. However, Ed bought me back 2 cakes for tea to cheer me up - and i ate them, after having a jacket pot for lunch for some reason was starving and custard donut was very appealing! Mizzy what is the entrance this week? Need to look up my sybs and give myself heart failure[msnwink].

Liesa I used to have problems with my knee, in the days when I went running regularly. The physio was uncomfortable but worked, and I now still do the exercises when I go to the gym... along with all the ones for the shoulder since last round of ops blah blah.

Crocks anonymous here! Tomato pasta for supper and no question of a mouthful of wine passing my lips, anything other than water or something hot is agony. I think I should be buying shares in Kleenex and Beechams - and DH is still not 100% and he has had it for over 2 weeks now.
