OMG!!!!!! Julie my darling husband would freak if i spent that much in a week[msneek]he goes very pale when we do the christmas shop and most of it is spent on his booze

where do you shop to spend that much? and are you an impulse buyer Julie or do you usually shop from a list? i once read somewhere that impulse buyers that shop on spec without a list generally spend on average 30% more than those who shop with a list and stick to it

did you also know that supermarkets place the better value lower cost items on lower shelves, as our eyes are naturally drawn to the shelves at eye level they place the higher profit more expensive items here, they also place special offers on large end displays whilst if you compare with a similar product further down the aisle the offer's not always as good as it seems

i did study marketing and merchandising at college and you'd be surprised at the lengths the retail giants go to to get us to part with our cash[msnmad]

Mizzy, No not an impulse buyer, always go with a list and a meal planner (even if just in my head), don't be any ready meals either, but as I said to you before I am funny about what I eat and where it comes from so I do tend to buy good quality which is always the higher priced[msnsad]

Most of what I spend is on fresh fruits, salad, fresh pressed juices for the children, we don't eat much meat so its not that, and the only booze is DH's which is about £12 per week.

I shop at Sainsburys, which I know is not the cheapest, but I enjoy it there and the experience is a nice one - Oh and they also have a Starbucks there too[msnembarrased] I know I am sad[msnwink]

mizzy
27-05-2006, 20:17
how about buying a juicer and making your own juices for the children?, this would probably save you money after the initial outlay costs and have you tried perhaps a local fruit shop to see if that's better value

Julie £300 per week for 5 people works out at £8.57 per person per day, doesn't sound so bad now does it[msnwink]

mine works out an average of £5 pp per day, funny it seems a lot more when i'm handing over my debit card[msneek]

Mizzy

27-05-2006, 20:29
Thanks Mizzy that does not sound so bad per person[msnsmile2]

I have this 'thing' too where I can't bare the fridge to be empty, like to have some choice[msnscared] Think I am just sad LOL!!!![msnwink]

Julie I also spend a furtune on grocery shopping, not sure how much, and I go everyday.

There is always something I need, I see we need milk so think about popping to the local shop but then realise I need this and that so go to somewhere like Morrisons and come out with a trolley load. Keep seeing things we need. I also can't seem to think about meals to have for more than 2 days[msnscared]. I shop all over the place, wherever I am near, maybe Morrisons or Tescos or Sainsbury etc.

I think I will go and add up what I have been spending, no doubt I will get a shock[msnoo]

fiona
27-05-2006, 21:14
I reckon I spend £150/175pw which feeds a family of 4, plus 6/8 bottles of wine for DH, 14 large cans of dog food & meal etc. I buy tons of fresh fruit & veg (from the farm shop or farmers market or market) and as much organic meat as I can.

I have cut down drastically on the OJ since going on the diet, so we no longer go through 2 large cartons of that, I make them drink water or low-cal squash instead! I don't buy biscuits, cakes or crisps unless one of the daughters are with me and they make their way in! I don't buy cereal except porridge oats and weetabix which is also a huge saving. And we barely eat any bread. But I do buy tons of cottage cheese, cheese (DH and YD like that) and tins of tomatoes, baked beans, 3 bean salad, tuna etc.

This only feeds me at lunch time, all the others buy their own - although ED will take jackets or salad when at work, but at uni she has to buy something, as does YD unless they make a sandwich. If I was producing packed lunches for all of us could easily go up to £200 a week.

When I buy from the market I get loads of stuff for £10-15 and I am sure it is far cheaper than buying from the supermarket, but obviously takes more time, which is where they get us. And Julie I am shopping at Waitrose which is almost as bad as M&S pricewise but the quality is excellent - and most importantly I can get in and out in 30 mins. The only time I enjoy shopping now is at a market where you can drink in the smell and colour of the fruit & veg - I'm off now before you think I am barking!

28-05-2006, 01:52
Fiona and Sally so glad you both spend a bit more I don't feel quite so bad now[msnwink]

I could easily have gone off the plan tonight, its treat night and there were crisps and choccies etc so I had my bowl of melon and peaches with yogurt[msnwink]

Green day today.........

porridge hc b
skinny latte x 2 = hc a's x 2
left over potato curry
loaded potato skins from the new mag Yummy!
melon. peaches and yogurt with some cereal hc b
lots of water[angel]

Wow Julie that is alot you want to get to Netto or Aldi[msnwink]
Seriously though, we have an Aldi over the road from our offices so I often run in for milk or tea, I have started to get the fruit and veg here because it's so fresh and very reasonable.
I've never bought any "food" though cos I have to admit I am a labels girl, don't ever buy own brands or brands I've never heard of.
Besides a monthly shop which comes, on average, around £300.00 a month I can also spend upto £100.00 per week just doing daily shops.

Fiona hope all goes well when you daughter comes to stay.[grouphug]

Hi everyone

I have been reading this thread for such a long time and finally taking the plunge to post.
Starting today I am giving the Slimming World Food Optimising a go, hopefully DH will also do this as well but I will have to wait and see.
I need to loose about 2 stone but if I can just get somewhere near a stone by the time we go to Florida in August I will be happy.
I bought the SW mag on Friday and there are some great meals to try.
No doubt I will have a few questions for you all - I think I understand about green & red days but not so sure about healthy extra's at the moment. Also did most of you start with allowing 10 syns per day?

Well I'm back online finally, we've been having problems with out computer at home so I've not been able to check in for a few days, and work has been hectic so no time to do it there either!¬[:P]
Everything is sorted now so I thought I must catch up with you all, its taken me a hour to read what I've missed!

Welcome to all you newcomers, I don't go to a SW class (but seriously thinking about it) but kind of follow it anyway, have lost 20lb since feb and have 2 1/2 ish stone to go before my holiday in March 2007.[msntongue]Seems alot but not nearly as much as 5 stone did 3 month ago!

Well done to all you losers this week, I weighed this morning and stayed the same but eating has been a bit erratic this week so not really surprised (not bad but lots of bread etc). Back on track now, plenty of salad & veg in the fridge again now so hopefully see a loss next week.

I hope all of you with probs are not letting them get you down.

I wonder if Liz is there yet? I'm so jealous, I could do with a dose of Florida sunshine at the moment (or even just US sunshine would be good).

Off to walk the dogs now, will try to check in later,

Julie B

Welcome Michelle, I have tried loads of differnet diets but SW is the easiest to follow.

Good morning all, sun is shining here so after walking the dog hope to get out in the garden to cut the grass as it looks like a jungle out there. Might even get some plants in but that might be pushing it.

Welcome Michelle, I would strongly recommend joining SW, having a group once a week as well as here really does motivate you. I am sure you can find one near you at a time convenient for you.

Going back to the shopping as well as the supermarket shop I must spend at least another £50-60 a week shopping locally as I only use the local butcher and buy most of my vegetables and fruit at the farm shops or markets. I have been paying a fortune these last two weeks on buying english strawberries but they are so much nicer than the spanish ones. I am also a great believer on buying british whenever I can and it is so often more expensive, that's the farmers daughter coming out in me. My family are still in farming and I feel very proud when I see their name on the potato packs in M&S.

Michele, welcome!

I tried to do SW just from the mag and support on here and although it was good and I lost 4 lbs when I jioned a class I got a much better understanding of the plan and have gone on to lose another 1 stone and 3lbs since the end of Feb[clap][clap][clap] I would join asap if you want to lose a stone by August and it is achieveable[msnwink] I now have 13lbs to my SW goal[clap] Although once I get there I may want to lose a little more[msnsmile]

Go on the SW web site and search a class near you, they have them at all times of the day, I don't go to my nearest as its an evening one so I go to a 1030am class near my childrens school[msnwink]

Syns I would not go over 10 a day to start with, I tend to use mine for an extra Starbucks coffee (Yes I am an addict[msnwink]) and sauce, gravy etc and occassionally for a few choccies etc[msnsmile]

I would also recommend if you can that you do some regular exercise[sporty][sporty][sporty]It helps speed up your weight loss and keeps everything nice and toned without going flabby as you lose the fat[sporty][sporty][sporty][sporty]

28-05-2006, 13:35
Julie b glad to see you back with us and sorry you stayed the same[msnsad]if your eating has been erratic then once you get back on track and it will soon sort it self out and you will be losing again[msnwink] I would really get to a class if you can you will really notice the difference[clap]

Liz I always try to buy British too, the British strawberries are yummy at the moment, I have been buying two boxes a day and two bunches of grapes and they are gone by bedtime with my children they just love them, that's where my money goes!!!![msnwink]

Going to have a red day today so off to make a full english breakfast for my brood, sausages, bacon, toms, eggs, beans etc etc[clap][clap][clap]

Catch you later!

good morning everyone

wow!!! more new people i have a feeling we're gonna start to struggle to remember names[msnscared]

welcome to the ov slimming club Michelle[msnsmile2]anywhere between 5-15syns is ok [msnsmile]

good to see you back online with us Julie B [clap] i know you may be disappointed with staying the same but here's to a nice chunk off next week[msnwink]

talking of strawberries, we usually go and pick our as soon as the're ready, the local farmer doesn't care how many the kids eat along the way, though he has joked a few times about weighing them on the way in and then again when we leave

we have a lovely picture of my daughter as a toddler sat amongst the straw, dressed pretty in white cotton summerdress and bonnet and totally covered in crushed strawberry with a big strawberry smile

they taste amazing when you pick your own[msntongue]

i'm planning on a brekkie today too but for lunch, the children have just polished off a round of cinnamon toast, made by moi!!! and it never botherd me at all, i must admit though the IHOP cinnamon toast is totally irresistable[msnsmile2]

have a great day everyone[angel] and do try to be good, that wicked bank holiday with all its temptations is on its way[angel]

Evening all, had a busy day gardening, the jungle has now gone when DH came home from sailing thought he had come to the wrong house[msnsmile2].

Had a red day today,
cereal and banana
cold meat salad,
fish salad for supper - I felt lazy and couldn't be bothered to cook. Couldn't resist a glass of wine.
lots of fruit and a yohurt as well, plus water

We have been busy gardening today too.
Had toast for Breakfast
Chicken with new potatoes and veg for tea.

Sorry Girls I've been naughty. I had to go to the shops for bread and milk as we forgot about Bank Holiday and there in the icecream fridge were Soleros and Magnums, now I know out of the two it would have made sense to pick the solero but it was the Magnum who called me seductively, I just couldn't resist.

The girls are so far having a great time with my Mum and Dad, Caitlin has always gone away with them anyway but I thought Eve would miss me.......apparently not[msncry]

mizzy
29-05-2006, 01:12
well ladies just checking in for the night

Paula - a magnum is about 15 syns[msneek] so one should be ok, it's when you buy a box of three and eat them all that you should worry[msnwink]Soleros are approx 6syns

i've had a really good day today
decided on success express

i had my usual brekkie and for the new ones thats two slices of wholemeal toast and ginger jam (2syns) i'm addicted to ginger jam[msnsmile2][msntongue]

lunch was a brekkie with the bacon and beans on 1/3rd and quorn sausages, tomatoes mushrooms and egg on the other 2/3rds

tea/supper was turkey breast steak and sweet potato wedges with morrocan spices on 1/3rd of plate and roasted veg on the other 2/3rds

snacks have been figs and muller yoghurt

it was mil's birthday and we've been there for tea and i was really good and said no to the birthday cake[angel][angel][angel]

i'm at another birthday tommorow, tea time til late and i may struggle at this party, there's no official weigh in for me tommorow and my scales are quite dodgy but i think i've lost one or two lbs, will have to check on my mums scales during the week[msnwink]

class isn't on tonight Paula, my consultant is going through some problems at home and there's no one to stand in for her (i got an e.mail yesterday from her)

i've been weighed at home but my friends scales are more acurate as she always knows how she's done before she comes to class, so i'm going to weigh myself on her scales to confirm whether it's 2 or 3 lbs[msnwink]

Morning all - have been following the SW plan since I joined class on Thursday... the food bit has been fine (red days for me) however, the wine consumption over the last 2 evenings has not! wow - if I calculate correctly - it is 24 syns for a bottle of dry white?[msneek][msnoo][msnscared]

no more syns for the rest of the week then [msnwink]

help!!!!!!!!

29-05-2006, 14:36

mizzy
29-05-2006, 15:10
Les you can have 105 syns max per week

Asda do a low calorie wine (white, red and rose) we had tasters of in class a few months ago, i dont really drink wine but it was nice, it works out at 2.5syns per glass instead of the usual 5 syns for a std glass of wine[clap]

we have a girl in our class who uses all her syns on a bottle of vodka a week[msneek] she's lost nearly three stone so you can have your treats as long as you count them in[msnwink]

Stayed the same. Now this isn't a bad thing, as I have had a big week of birthdays and celebrations. I was hoping to maintain the same, and it happened. Today was my birthday, so we went out for lunch, and again for dinner. If I don't gain this week I will be happy, I am walking furiously to try and balance it out!

Hi Everyone
I joined Slimming World a couple of months ago and lost a stone. I then went out to Florida for 3 weeks and was suprised to have only put on 2lbs. But I just can not get back into it. Any suggestions. I think the main problem is, is that sometimes I am too tired to cook when I get home from work, I just wish I could open something up that is already prepared and not have any sins[msnsad]

Afternoon all, late checking in here today, been for a long walk this morning and did some gardening, it is now p*****g down with rain so have come in for the afternoon, although we have to pop out and visit a friend who has not been well.

Amanda, get yourself back to a class at SW if you are having problems getting motivated and keep logging in to this thread everyday and reading everyone elses menus and losses and gains.

Having a green day today,
Cereal and fruit for breakfast,
Egg salad with ham (HO) for lunch with an apple.
Bolognose (quorn)with pasta and fruit for supper, probably sneak in a glass of wine.
Plus extra fruit and a yoghurt.

Hope everyone is having a break today.

Michelle, I was only talking about my shopping bill the other day on here, I am going to try my local market for my fruit we are all eating £££££££'sssssssss of the stuff, but at least its all healthy[clap][clap]

Checking in after a busy weekend. Not done too bad, but a few "treats" have slipped in[msnembarrased]

Like Julie, I've had a bit of a cold, which is unusual for me, so my exercise has gone haywire! Hoping to be back to normal tomorrow.

With regard to the topic on supermarket shopping, I get edgy when I don't have a fridge full of fresh fruit & veg. We all try to get our "5 a day" which amounts to 25 portions per day[msneek]. The children usually have a home made smoothie each day in which I cram at least 3 fruit portions each. The bulk of my shopping bill goes on fresh foods. We don't eat a lot of meat(my youngest is vegetarian so we often all join in).

No weight loss this week for me, but I'm not surprised. Well done though to all those who have lost and not cheated!!!

Hi again,

Not had a great deal of time to do the reading up on the SW diet and I can still not get my head around how much you can supposedly eat! I am very dubious at the moment if it would work for me. I have finally found a class not too far away which is Tuesday at 10am, unfortunately I cannot manage to get there tomorrow as I have my daughter to look after.

I have ordered a couple of the SW books, (Food Optimising and Curry Feasts) which should arrive by Thursday. Until then I thnk I am better sticking to calorie counting so that I dont make mega mistakes, and I will try to get to the SW class next Tuesday.

Good luck to all and well done to the losers!

Karen

30-05-2006, 13:04
Morning ladies,

Karen, don't be dubious, I have been there and got the T shirt[msneek] all last year I battled trying to do this myself counting calories etc as I had done since my last two babies were born, I could not believe that I (as I thought I was different) could lose weight eating all the foods on SW - well how wrong I was and since Feb I have lost over 1 1/2 stones and I am well on my way to my goal weight[clap][clap]

If you REALLY want to do this you have to set aside 1 hour to read the programme once you have joined a class (have you joined yet or just thinking about it) and got the book which explains everything you need to know, and you can take your daughter to class if you need too[msnwink]

Don't TRY to get to class just GO!!!!

Sorry if I sound harsh, but if you really want to do this then you have to go for it!!!

Good luck with weigh tonight Fiona[clap][clap][clap]

Carole you will lose next week I am sure[msnwink]

Have a great day all, and eat (plenty) but don't cheat!!!![clap][clap]

I am off to do my treadmill[sporty][sporty][sporty][sporty][sporty]

Good Morning Ladies , i've just woken up[msnembarrased]

firstly the most important news, after a double check on my friends sclaes yesterday i've lost 2.5lbs so thats exactly 2 stone [clap][clap][clap], should get my award next week in class[msnsmile2]

Karen , have a go with all the free food , eat whenever you feel hungry and not just for the sake of it and SW guarantees if you don't not lose any weight then they will give you your money back!!!!!. I have a big appetite, eat loads and am losing it steady away

had a great time yesterday at my friends daughters birthday party, must have burnt off 10 million calories with laughter alone[msnwink] let me explain!!!
my friend gets a huge bonus every year after the tax and year end figures are done, and after a lot of talk last summer about a spa/hot tub, she has decided to take the plunge! and has narrowed the choice down to three[msnoo] one of which we got to try yesterday[msneek] somehow she convinced the spa company to let her have one at a time for a few weeks to try before she buys (a lot of hassle and work on their part but she is testing 3 of their most expensive so they probably think it's worth it)[msnwink]and i've got to say the trying out was hilarious.

Her husband is a saint and he has constructed a tiki hut sort of thing so that the tub will be totally private and so they can still use it in the rain.
So the kids in first and they had a whale of a time, whilst the grown ups discussed money and running costs and other things too rude to mention on a family forum[msnembarrased], soon kiddies tired out so back inside with lots of junk to eat and watch "narnia" on dvd [clap].
now the men decide that it's their turn to hog the spa and the discussion changes from a "how much???" to "do you think you could hook up a plasma to watch the world cup in here"[msneek]
so here's what we have 6 totally drunk men in a spa, who couldn't stand up let alone get back out of it!!
seeing them trying to actually get out was hilarious i haven't laughed so much in ages[laugh][laugh][laugh]:D
so a great success of a party, we'll be talking about this one in years to come[msnwink] and what of us girls you might ask ?, we sat on the side and dipped our legs in, it was far too cold for us by the time we got a go 10pm[msnmad] but we all agreed the spa's a great idea and next time we're in first, we've been invited back in two weeks to try out another one [msnwink]

Well hello ladies, welcome to the newbies, and those who have come back - oh yes, that would be me too! Happy birthday Theresa for yesterday, hope you had a lovely day.

Well the prodigal (or should one say errant) daughter has returned, the fatted calf (or chicken!) served and after much angst and tears everything is now resolved and she is back for good. She has a heck of a week next week with 2 exams most days, and then it is all over. She is coming on holiday with us, we have agreed to forgive and forget and move forward.

How have I done on the food front for the past week? Dreadfully, probably drunk more wine in the last 2 weeks than I have in the past year - well slight exaggeration, but I did have one or two glasses every night. And the odd bar of chocolate has also snuck in. Still tomorrow is another day as I am fond of saying when disaster has struck and I have gone off the rails, so am back on track as from today. Ergo do not expect a weight loss unless a miracle occurs[msnwink]

Cooked a cheese and onion frittata this am as we are taking picnic food to the class tonight, did not fancy chopping up tons of peppers and carrots and making a dip tonight as on a timeline with walking hounds, getting supper on and out of the house for 7.

Happy Birthday for yesterday Theresa.

Fiona I am so glad things are resolving themselves with your daughter.

My Dad came home from The Lakes last night so he is coming for tea here with me and Tony. My curry is my Dads fave meal but I'm doing steak with jacket potatoes, sweetcorn, mushrooms and tomatoes. I am having a red day.

The girls are having such a wonderful time that my Mum has decided to stay until Friday, not only has my Mum got my two girls but also my two neices. The weather has been beautiful for them, it always rains when I go. Mum and Dad have a caravan there and the site has loads of entertainment for the children and there is a petting farm just down the lane so they've had loads of fresh air and Mum says they are all hungry all the time. I did all my housework on Saturday and I can't believe how tidy the house is staying, there is always some sort of item to step over when the girls are here. Dad says the caravan looks like a bomb has hit it.[msneek]

Afternoon all, so glad to hear all is resolved with YD Fiona. I'm sure you will find yourself back on track now, it is hardly surprising that things have gone awray over the past week, but heyho tomorrow is another day.

Happy birthday for yesterday Theresa.

Paula, sounds as if you are having a good break and sorry to say it but the girls are obviously not missing you at all.

Hope everyone is having a good day, I was out walking the dog at 6.15 this morning, played badminton at lunchtime and just about to go for a walk with the dog again.

Having another green day,
Cereal and fruit for breakfast
Smoked salmon sandwich and apple for lunch,
Yoghurt after badminton
Frittata and salad and fruitfor supper.
Lots of water

Busy busy busy.

Well done to Mizzy[clap][clap][clap].

Welcome to anyone who is new[msnsmile2]

Went shopping with 2 of my 3 girls today, have to say that I actually enjoyed trying on clothes and got myself a pair of nice cropped trousers, not often I can find any to fit, being only 5ft 2in they often look like short long trousers[msnscared]. Bank account now lighter with 2 of them with me, thankfully I didn't have all 3 with me.

Fiona I am so glad that you have sorted everything out with YD.

Belated birthday wishes to Theresa[msnsmile2]

Paula, enjoy your few days of peace. I know when any of my girls are away I don't know what to do with myself.

Off to make spag bol with quorn for dinner now.

30-05-2006, 21:49

Hi Ladies,

Well done Mizzy[clap]

Fiona, Glad things are looking much brighter with YD, it took me hours checking nack through all the posts to find out what the problems have been. Kids eh! Who'd have em? We went through hell and back with my eldest son (now 22) while he was at college, and he still has his moments now.

Belated Happy Birthday to you Theresa.

Paula, make the most of your freedom and if you are missing your kids too much, give me a shout and you can borrow my 10 year old daughter[msnsmile]

I am very pleased with myself this evening (Thanks Julie for giving me a kick) as I made a snap decision and have just returned home after having joined Slimming World class[msnsmile2] No excuses now. I forgot to ask while I was there but I know somebody on here will know, which day does the password change? Apparently the new password for this week is ROCKET.

I am feeling really motivated now, so here's to a great week for all of us!

Well I have done well again today - but with being off work for the last few days has helped.

Back at work tomorrow but there is a lovely sandwich shop just by where I am going tomorrow and they will do a salad box for me.
For tea tonight we are having duck with peaches and raspberries - receipe came from the SW mag - DH has been at cricket practice so I will start cooking in a minute.

Stayed the same this week, so could have been worse! Am back on track and the picnic food tasted delicious. I am now going to buy some quorn and at least make coronation quorn! Someone made a very tasty couscous with lemon & lime, onion & sultanas. Not so keen on the pasta crisps - boil sheets of lasagne, separate while wet, chop up, shake seasoning on them, grill briefly, to my mind taste was not worth the effort - would rather bake slices of beetroot or parsnip!

Car in for a MOT tomorrow so will be in a rush in the morning getting dogs walked, quite bit of shopping to be done as my sister is coming for lunch, before I get the car to the garage! Good luck everyone being weighed.

Fiona well done for staying the same after the rough time you have been having. I know when I am feeling down I reach for the chocolate[msneek].

Great news Karen on joining a club you will get loads of ideas from going.

Felt I have done well this week until I got up this morning, feeling very bloated, that time again. Not sure now what the scales will say on Thursday.

Looks like it will be a nice day here in the south, shame I am working this morning.

Wonder what Liz is doing [msncool]

Hello everyone,

Hello to all the newcomers too, and belated happy birthday to theresa.

Well, after being sooo good for 3 months[angel], I've completely lost it this weekend[msncry], having a bit of a rough time with DH at the moment and finding it hard to cope with that, being a good mum, good wife, good housekeeper, do a nearly full time job and control my eating[msnmad], I need to get back on track pretty damn quick before I do any damage, it would be a shame to ruin what I've achieved so far. I am going to go to SW on Thurdsay, I think it will help me focus again.[msnwink]

I also find it more difficult during the holidays as when I am at work, I take my lovingly prepared salad with me and have that with no other temptation.

With being really busy too at the moment and not checking in on here doesn't help either, you guys really help with the motivation and support, thanks[beer].

DH came home sick yesterday too, so he's going to be off for the rest of the week!

Oh well, here we go again, I'm off to go on the treadmill, haven't done it for a few days, its gunna be tough.

Have a great day everyone!

congratulations Fiona on staying the same[grouphug]

Julie B , forgive yourself and move on, remind yourself of how well you've done and focus on your long tem goals, you can do this you know you can[clap]

Kazzie, passwords last for two weeks and usually change over on a monday

well ladies it's my little boys 10th birthday tommorow so i'll be running about all over today, birthdays in our house usually consist of three cakes [msneek] one to take to granny's (without chocolate)one to take to my parents and one for the actual party which is on sunday, he has chosen bowling followed by pizza hut with 3 tier chocolate cake[msnscared] i will attempt to post photos!!!

i had a good day yesterday ,though i must admit it's really hard with the children off school, my day is less structured and more stressful and it doesn't help that i'm being hunted down by a cherry bakewell that keeps calling my name every time i go to the fridge [msneek]

have a good one everybody[angel]

Good morning all, well done Fiona for staying the same, that is really good news. Sorry to hear things are not too good with you Julie B. I know the feeling all too well.

Had a good start to the day, walk before breakfast, then car boot and then badminton.

Mizzy don't get too stressed about the birthday, it really is not worth it. Think of yourself. I am so glad that MIL is not round the corner and that it takes us 45 mins to get to her, which means we have to arrange it in advance to suit us. [msntongue]

Well, I've had a lovely, unexpected day off work[msnsmile]

A bad start though-managed to spill my porridge on my hand and it's blistered as if I'd put it in a fire.[msneek] The day got better though, as I then went out for a very early walk before the rest of the house got up. The weather was beautiful!
Took the children and my 85 y/o mum to Skipton. We wandered round the market and the shops. It was packed but it was good to spend some time together.
Mum and the girls had ...wait for it..fish and chips!!! I had a wholemeal roll with turkey and salad and even ignored the ice creams they all had before we left for home. So, I'm doing ok at the moment.

Fiona-I'm delighted your daugther is home. Hope all goes well from now on. Mizzy-hope your son has a great birthday. It's my son's 18th on Monday[msncry]

Evening all, had a hectic day today, went to the RSPCA this afternoon where I work as a volunteer and it was so busy. Had all the usual problems that happen each week but I hardly sat down all afternoon. Got home and DH suggested a walk as I had probably been sitting all afternoon[msnsmile2] However we went for a walk and it was lovely out, sun shining and the wind has dropped. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better.

Had a red day today:-
Cereal and stewed blackberries for breakfast,
Egg salad and apple for lunch
Yoghurt and melon when I got home
Lovely G & T before supper which was lovely
Lamb chops, veg and gravy for supper

I'm sure there should be someone weighing in today but just can't think who so whoever it is hope it went well.

Well, I have lost loads of pounds already. Talk about a hectic day! Took my car for its MOT this am with YS following to bring me back home. The test centre said to come back at half 10, so did as was instructed. YS dropped me off and went on his merry way. Then was told that my car had failed as the handbrake was naff[msnmad]. Why they didnt phone me to tell me this is a mystery. Anyway, after I asked they said they could do it and to come back at 5pm[msnmad]

Phone YS to come back for me and on the way home his car just died!!! Smoke pouring from the engine and we were at a very busy junction right at the traffic lights.

Walked a mile or so home with YS staying with the car. Soon got a phonecall from him to say that he had tried to roll his car back so it wasnt on double yellows and his brakes didnt work as his engine wasnt turned on[msneek] so he had bumped into a post[msnmad][msnmad] It gets better!

DH had left his car at home this morning as he was going for a drink after work. Phoned the garage to ask if they could collect sons car and I needed to drop of the car key first. Set off in DH's car and it ran out of petrol[msnmad][msnmad] Why do men (or is it just mine?) insist on leaving it until the petrol tank is gasping before they decide to fill up? Luckily I wasnt far from a petrol station. God help him when he gets home though. He just rang to see if anybody could pick him up from the station, guess what my answer was?

So, pounds lost, £87 for my car and son's car has blown the cylinder head gasket £200 ish, then my car tax was £175, sons car insurance due Friday almost £800!! Oh happy half-term[msntongue]

Hope nobody has had as bad a day as moi. On the plus side the diet went very well, although really havnt had time to eat enough or drink enough water.

I have a funeral to attend tomorrow morning with a bit of a do afterwards, which option would be better do you think? Green day or Original?

Karen

Somerset
01-06-2006, 02:50
Sorry to hear you have had a bad day Karen - as for tomorrow - I would maybe check out the food options and then decide whether you would be better off going 'red or green.'

I have my first weigh-in tomorrow night and am quite anxious as my scales are not showing any difference... I have stuck to SW, written everything down but a bad back has stopped any exercise this week, so maybe I have just learnt how to 'maintain.' Hope not though...

Not written for a couple of days. My young grandson (4 months) went to hospital on Sunday with suspected menigitis... it's been an anxious time but happy to report that tests proved clear and he was discharged this morning - probably had a viral infection. We are relieved, he was a really poorly baby on Sunday morning and gave us and the doctors great concern. Babies can deteriorate so quickly can't they...

Good luck to all.

Kazzie
01-06-2006, 02:57
So sorry to hear about your grandson Les. I hope he soon makes a full recovery and so glad it wasnt meningitis.

Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow, maybe your body needs a little longer to register things and you will lose some next week, especially if your back improves and you can do a little exercise.

Karen

fiona
01-06-2006, 04:08
Gosh it is exciting times for us lot isn't it? Karen sorry to hear about your dreadful day - foodwise tomorrow, at the funeral I went to last week it was mainly sarnies and meat and veggies, so not much help to you really! I think as Les says you will need to have a neutral breakfast and then see what is there and make a decision.

Carole hope the hand is better soon - that sounds v painful.

Banana for breakfast, frittata for lunch + 1 tiny piece of brownie, (my sister bought a slab with her[gun]), cod, new pots & salad for supper, grapes.

Had been hoping to get to the gym tomorrow but have to go to work, so that's out the window. EDs car is in the garage (to be paid for by herself!!) and I am taxi service, backwards and forwards from uni, 25 mins each way. Hope it is finished tomorrow.

Have a relapse of the dreaded diverticulitis or IBS again - had it last night too, had trouble getting to sleep, I hope it is not stress related as have not had it for quite a few years as have been v careful what I eat. I am going to have a couple of weeks of cutting the carbs right down or even out, and see how I get on, as last time I did that it helped. Also will have to be really strict and cut out everything wheat related again. Last time I ended up in hospital for a week so I need that like a hole in the head!!

Have a good day everyone and thanks to you all for your kind words and support, we do all get put through the ringer sometimes don't we?

Good morning all.

Karen sorry to hear all your troubles, hope the car situation gets sorted out.

Les, I do know all about bad backs having had an spinal fusion operation 20 years ago which fortunately was very succesful. It took two years to become fully effective though. Can you try walking, that was the only thing that I could do, as long as it was on the flat and no slopes or hills were involved.

Fiona, do take care of yourself and take some time out if you can. Now YD is back home do relax.

Off to do the shopping shortly, will check in later.

Good Morning Everyone

well it's a hard life as my old granny would say[msnscared]

Fiona take care of yourself [grouphug]

Karen, i would have a large neutral snack or meal before setting off for the funeral then you'll have more control when it comes to the buffett (i usually have scrambled eggs on toast or a veggie omelette)also take fruit with you in the car

Les, our sometimes dodgy scales cause a lot of destrucion, we weigh ourselves and then let the scales deicide our day, you may not have maintained at all, you could have lost lbs [msnsmile2] or gained lbs [msnsad] but the best way to find out is once a week at the class[msnwink]thank god it all ok for your grandson.

Good Luck for those weighing in today, Paula, Sally and Jill[clap] if anyone new is also weighing in then good luck to you too

Well my little boy is 10 today and i can't believe where the last 10 years have gone and how fast!!!! have lots to do (after lunch til late) but will check in to see those weight loss results[msnwink][msnsmile2] good luck girls!!!

I have lost 2lb, I'm so happy as I went to The Lakes to visit the girls yesterday (yes I know they will be home tomorrow) and I wasn't very good, a few too many chocs slipped their way past my lips.

I decided yesterday morning to travel up with my sister, if you'd have seen Eve's face when she seen me, she was delighted, although she didn't want to come home with me but wanted me to stay.

I have just bought Eve a new bed so I've been and bought lots of different coloured cushions pillow cases and new bedding so I'm off to move her room around.

Warm-up for 5 minutes and then power walk for 15 minutes. Generally, a good speed is between 3.5 mph to 4.0 mph. Immediately go to the next exercise.

Movement:
• Power walking is a mix between walking and running. The technique is more like walking, but the idea is to get to speed closer to running.

Key Points:
• Power walking is a safe, low impact activity that provides a great workout. It is an activity that can be performed year-round, outside, in the gym, or at the mall.
• Wear comfortable clothing, and most importantly, comfortable walking shoes.
• Anyone with the approval of their physician may participate in power walking for cardiovascular fitness.

Barbell Rear Squat

Instruction:
Perform 2 sets of 20 repetitions and wait no longer than 40 seconds between sets. Then immediately go to the next exercise.

Starting Position:
• Place a barbell or broom stick across the back of your shoulders. Be sure it is not resting on your neck. It should be on the highest part of your back.
• Place feet flat on the floor, shoulder-distance apart.

Movement:
• Concentrating on the quadriceps, lower your body by bending from your hips and knees stopping when your thighs are parallel with the floor.
• Slowly return to the starting position.

Key Points:
• Inhale as you lower your body.
• Exhale while returning to the starting position.
• Do not let your knees ride over your toes (you should be able to see your feet at all times).
• It helps to find a marker on the wall to keep your eye on as you lift and lower, otherwise your head may tend to fall forward and your body will follow.
• Think about sitting back in a chair as you are lowering down.
• Push off with your heels as you return to the starting position.
• You may want to try this exercise without weights until you master the movement. It is a very effective exercise that involves most of the muscle groups of the lower body, but if done improperly can lead to injuries.

Dumbbell Incline Chest Press

Instruction:
Perform 12 repetitions for two sets and wait no longer than 30 seconds between sets. Then immediately go to the next exercise.

Starting Position:
• Lie on your back on an incline bench with your spine in a neutral position.
• Hold a dumbbell in each hand at chest level with your elbows at a 90-degree angle facing outward and palms facing forward. If you do not have an incline bench or flat bench, simply lie with your back against the floor and perform a chest press.

Movement:
• Contracting the chest muscles, press both arms upward above the chest until the arms are fully extended with a slight bend in the elbows.
• Slowly return to the starting position.

Key Points:
• Exhale while lifting the weight.
• Inhale while returning to the starting position.

The Lunge

Instruction:
Perform 15 repetitions for two sets on each leg and wait 60 seconds between sets. Immediately go to the next exercise.

Starting Position:
• Stand straight with your feet together.
• Hold a dumbbell or cans in each hand with your arms down at your sides.

Movement:
• Step forward with the right leg and lower the left leg until the knee almost touches the floor.
• Contracting the quadriceps muscles, push off your right foot slowly returning to the starting position.
• Alternate the motion with the left leg to complete the set.

Key Points:

• Inhale while stepping forward.
• Exhale while returning to the starting position.
• The step should be big enough that your left leg is nearly straight. Do not let your knee touch the floor.
• Make sure your head is up and your back is straight.
• Your chest should be lifted and your front leg should form a 90-degree angle at the bottom of the movement.
• Your right knee should not pass your right foot. You should be able to see your toes at all times.
• If you have one leg that is more dominant than the other, start out with the less dominant leg first.
• Discontinue this exercise if you feel any discomfort

Good grief Julie I was exhausted just reading all that. If you are doing all that you deserve to be losing tons. How long does all that take you? Some of it I think I could do, not sure about the weights, but I can tell you there is no way I could do those barbell rear squats! Looks like I shall have to up my 2 x 40 mins dog walking somewhat.

Well done on the weight loss Paula - now is that because the children haven't been home that you have lost weight?[msnwink]

Well I am still following the rules and have been doing this since Sunday.

When I weighed myself this morning I had already lost 4lbs which I am totally amazed by. I don't think I have eaten so much for ages - but all the food is healthy.

It is harder when I am at work but I am determined to make this work.

My ED seems to have sorted herself out today she has eventually decided to leave 6th form after her AS levels and go to college and study Graphic Design and then go onto University. I think sometimes they just need the time to sort things out in their own mind and I am just hoping that she enjoys this and that things will now start to calm down at home as well.

Julie - that fitness routine looks really good.

Paula & Sally well done

G'day everyone

OK I am back in action and ready to post my food diaries again! The last three weeks have been hell to follow SW through with, but somehow the exercising seems to have made me stabilise, and I was extremely good on the 'inbetween days'. I haven't been at work for two weeks, so the real test will be on Monday night at work, when I weigh myself on the 'industrial' scales, and see how I have done.

So I got my books out and set out the next two weeks of eating, which means basically repeating the same week over again, but its got ALL my snacks and healthy options mapped out for me, and will kickstart me into action again. Its the Feb/Mar issue Julie sent me, its incredibly dog eared now, but still inspires me!

Food Diary

Two slices of wholemeal toast
Baked Potato, Beans, Cheese & large salad
Baked Fish, SW Chips & Peas

Snacks: Fruit, Small 'fun size' Kit Kat (which I am saving until later this evening as a treat!)

A few new faces I see, will gradually get to know everybody again! [msnwink]

Theresa and Carole, it's really good that your back on track and feel more in control of things[msnwink] and good luck with weighing in on monday Theresa

julie B, i have similar problems when the children are off school, it's the tiredness as well as the lack of routine that gets me, i have so many birthdays this wekk in particular (4 of them) ands the cake is proving harder and harder to resist[msnembarrased] and then there's pizza hut on sunday, i'm not expecting spectacular results on monday but whatever they say i will be relieved that the children are back at school and i can out me first again[msnsmile]

02-06-2006, 14:09
Good morning all,

Mizzy you seem to be lurching from one problem to another at the moment, I think leave the rug to dry naturally at the moment and hope for the best. At worst I think the colour may fade and it may shrink but at best there may be no problem but I would like it will still be usuable. Do you have a rotary clothes line, if so I should drape it upside down on this.

I am sure you will soon be back on track Theresa.

Gorgeous sunny morning here so we are off up for a walk on the downs today and taking a picnic with us. Should be lovely up there.

Will decide later what sort of day I am going to have.

Check in later. Have a good day all.

Jill

02-06-2006, 16:29
it's a massive rug Jill 10ftx 8ft and it's very heavy so there's no way it would go on the rotary drier outside

i looked all over for the rug and it's not something i could easily replace so i just hope it dries without ruining it[msnsad]

Afternoon all, internet explorer down at home, cannot get on at all but at least my emails were coming through. Then when checking emails this am found our site had been hacked into and received 493 emails because they couldn't use my email addresses to actually send the junk so they all came in as villa enquiries to me[msnmad]. Got my website guy onto it as soon as I realised what was happening and he blocked the guys email address so nothing can get through. It appears to be some time-waster at a web hosting company in New Jersey on the night-shift[gun][gun]. As we have windows XP I think I will have to go back 2 days and restore the system. Murphy's law the 2 non-related things happen at the same time isn't it?!

Very busy evening last night, collecting ED's car from it's service and then collecting YD's belongings from where she had been staying. Got back at 8.15 and we decided to have a takeaway as I had no time to throw something together that they could all agree on. Had Indian and I had chicken tikka and salad and let DH tuck into the rice and chicken dhansak!!

Well done all of you who are losing weight, particularly the newbies, this diet really does work - even though you can eat tons. I am sitting down to do my menu planning for the next week and am going to be organised!

Mizzy I hope you are feeling better soon - how are you going to manage in the summer holidays? Do they go off to activities and stuff then?

mizzy

i've been busy trying to save my rug, after ringing about i have had my mum borrow a wet n dry hoover thingie and she has come and suctioned most of the water out of it[clap] now it's a wait and see job as to whether it shrinks or damages the pile[msnsad]

i've also gutted my utility and laundry room today, we extended the house so the children could have their own den and so i could have a bigger utility and laundry and my husband has been using the utility/laundry rooms as a general dumping ground ever since the work was finished[msnmad]

I must have got your vibes mizzy, have sorted out our garage with DH today, 4 trips to the dump later and we can actually walk from one end to the other without a hop skip and jump over everything, it feels huge! very satisfying!

Reading about all your teenage probs makes me dread whats to come for me. My ED is 12 going on 18. SHe thinks that just because shes now at secondary school she can do whatever and go wherever she wants! I want her to have fun but not all at once, I need her to do things gradually, not for her but for me! and shes the easy one[msntongue] I'm trying to let go but its hard, I guess by the time my third is this age it'll all be a walk in the park (yeh right).

Food today

Brekkie - porridge
only had a banana and a go ahead yoghurt break for lunch (naughty I know but was very involved with sorting the garage and time got away from me)
Tea - large salad with new potatoes and egg.

Have a good day tomorrow everyone.

Good morning all,

What a gorgeous morning it is, sun is shining in a clear blue sky, we went off for a walk at 7am and it was so peaceful.

Theresa, do have a look at SW web site there are some motivating recipes on there.

Julie B our garage is the same as yours was, one side is totally inaccessible, the other side is a bit better. Every now and again we have a tidy up and get rid of stuff but then we accumulate something else. DH is a hoarder and hates throwing anything away as it might come in useful.

Busy morning what with packing DH off sailing with friends for the day and then I'm off to dog agility classes. I intend to have a relaxing afternoon but expect I shall end up gardening, putting in the geraniums, etc.

Going to have a red day today,
Cereal and fruit for breakfast,
Ham salad sandwich and fruit for lunch
Steak, veg and new pots and fruit for supper, and I'm sure a glass of red wine with beckon.

Have a good day everyone and don't get sunburnt.

Jill

Morning all, what a beautiful day[clap][clap][clap]

Theresa, Mizzy is right, log on to the web site in Group Members, put your email in and this weeks password 'rocket' and surf all the recipes etc[clap][clap] Do you have a fax at work?

Our garage used to be like that too but its home to DH's classic Porsche 911, which only coming out in the summer now[msnwink]

Julie B, my advice with ED is to keep her on a VERY tight rein until about 16-17, even if her friends are doing things like going into town, or having late nights, stick to how you feel, but talk to her all the time about how you feel, how much you love her and how you know you are being more strict than other Mothers, my 17 y/o is here now and is nodding in agreement, she always says the reason she did not go off the rails like some of her school friends is because she was not allowed as much freedom until she was able to cope with it, she says because I was strict but we always talked she is now my best friend[msnwink] My older boys are now 21 and 22 were brought up in the same way and they also now appreciate that we brought them up in a way that hopefully stopped them getting into any bother - but as always no teenager is perfect with all those hormones going round!!!LOL I still have 2 more to go too[msneek]

I am going to get on my treadmill then slap on the SPF 15 and get out side, I look so pale is scary[msneek][msnembarrased]

Have a great day all!!!!

I 100% beef burger, 2 100% lamb kebabs, salad, SW chips and 1 tbsp olive oil dressing
Lots of water but not managed my 2 litres[msnsad]
1 weetabix with summer fruits and yog (Yes I am hooked on this at the moment[msnwink])

Like Mizzy I am not expecting a great loss on the scales this week[msnsad]

I am not doing anything wrong but I can feel its just not moving, so next week I am sticking to the 7 day menu plan in the new mag[clap]

Help please!

At lunchtime today (original day) I had 2 quorn sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs and some baked beans. I thought this would be fine as at the club last week the leader said quorn sausages were ok and I am pretty sure I have read that some of you eat them on original days.

Being a bit thick[msnembarrased] I have only just cottoned on to the food diary section online at slimming world and couldnt find the sausages on the syns list. So I entered the nutritional info from the package and it calculated the syns as 35![msneek] for the pack, which is 6 sausages. I ate 2 which means I have had 11.6 sins just with those sausages (which I didnt even like [msnmad]) and the group leader advised that I should stick to 10 syns per day!

How do others manage to fit these into your daily allowance? I am in a panic now as I havnt even entered the remainder of my day into my food diary and due to get weighed again Tuesday!

Karen

Ok, panic over, just found them in the food optimising book, under sausages and quorn vegetarian sausages are free on both green and original days:)

mizzy
05-06-2006, 01:13
glad you found them Karen, quorn sausages are free on both plans, but baked beans are not free on red so did you weigh these as a healthy extra or did you have them as syns?

talking of breakfasts i've a quick tip about mushrooms, i cook mine in a little water and soy sauce to saute them (worcester sauce is good too) and then drain and finish off in the frying pan or oven and they taste lovely

i'm going to follow a menu plan for the next 7 days too Julie, i find that it really helps you get back on track when you've had a few days off, it will also be easier with the children being back at school[msnwink]

Mizzy

god, i'm dreading tommorow's weigh in[msnscared] and i'm the "weigh lady" at class [msneek]

Mizzy glad the birthday party went well and dont worry about tomorrows weigh in as Birthdays come but once a year. If you have been good for the rest of the week I am sure you will be fine.

I had the baked beans as a healthy extra. I have been a bit stupid all week and found it really difficult but now realise I had forgotten about the healthy extras! So apart from free foods have been counting everything else as syns[msnembarrased] Oh well, will see what the weigh in says on Tuesday evening.

Good luck to all.

Morning!
Karen its very hard to get the hang of the syns, healthy extras, etc etc. I find it daunting STILL!
It seems like a few of us are following the SW mag plans this week.
If I stay even this week I will be happy. Fingers crossed for late today!

Evening all, had a amd weekend, friend's hen party today - yes I had teeny glass of bucks fizz and no sandwiches, cakes, wraps etc - only the prawns & veggies and fruit, along with 2 cocktail sausages and tons of water[angel]. Blew it all the evening as DH did not return from the golf club until nearly 9.00pm so had a burger and bun on the barbie stuffed with lettuce, tomato & onion and eye-wateringly fresh colmans mustard. Had tons of water after that too, I wonder why!

Am going to try and follow a 7 day diet plan too as I agree Mizzy it re-focuses you when you have fallen off the wagon!

Of course as I have chucked out all my old smart togs have nothing to wear to the wedding. So what do I get that is suitable for the Guild Hall in Windsor (where Charles & Camilla and Elton John got married) and a reception that goes on from 3.30 until 11pm. Don't want to spend a fortune as will be a different shape after my op in September but need something a bit dressy.

05-06-2006, 09:53
Morning all, back to being up early, one of my little ones is back to school today the other is back tomorrow[msnsmile2]

Day one of the new 7 day menu plan says Bachelors Mild Cheese & broccoli pasta n pasta made with water [sick][sick] Has anyone tried this or can I swap it for something nicer???

Good luck to Theresa, Mizzy and any other Monday weigh ins[clap][clap][clap]

Have a good day all!!!

mizzy
05-06-2006, 12:02
good morning everyone

good luck with the weigh in Theresa

Fiona, i'm sure you'll find something nice for the wedding, could you not buy something that a clever dressmake could alter for you after your op?

and Julie, the mild cheese and brocolli is [sick] the cheese leek and ham or carbonara ones are much nicer, but if you still dont fancy this swap it for cous cous or make your own pasta and a sauce using free ingrediants, that'll still be ok

it looks like my eldest child is gonna be off school today, she has something wrong with her ears and as she never usually recognises pain and the fact that she's kept me up for most of the night[msnscared] means it must be significant so it's a trip to the doctor (hard work) and then getting her to take whatever he gives her (even harder!!!!) and probably another 3-4 nights of no sleep[msnsad]

have a good day everyone

Good morning all, hope everyone had a good weekend, wasn't the weather lovely but we did have heavy rain last night, good for all those plants I had put in earlier.

Mizzy, glad to hear you had a good birthday party for your son but sorry to hear that your daughter is not well. Hope the trip to the doctors is not too bad.

Had my walk this morning and shortly off to play tennis. We have to go and visit MIL this afternoon, my least favourite pastime but it does have to be done. Fortunately is about 45 mins away so have to arrange it in advance.

Had quite a good weekend food wise, can't remember exactly what but my sins were alcohol and nothing else. Will have a red day today as then I know I will be OK for whatever we do this evening with MIL, she often takes us out for a meal to a carvery.

Hope the weigh-in goes well Mizzy, I'm sure a pizza and slice of chocolate cake will not undo all the good of the last fortnight.

Fiona, you could do what I have done in the past for a special occasion, go to one of the local charity shops, it is surprising what good quality things they have in them. I picked up a brand new pair of sandals, Clarks this season, last week for £5. I have also got Country Casual, Kaliko and Monsoon things from them. Good luck hunting.

Jill i dont envy you visiting the mil, if she's anything like mine then i hope your grateful that she lives so far away, mines on the doorstep[msneek] but we never visit without advance warning as the children can be a bit of a handful
my mil wore black to all of her 3 sons weddings and i was the worst as i married her baby[msnoo]

i took my son to school this morning and had to bring him straight back home, it's a teacher training day!!!!![msnembarrased] the head came out especially just to tell me

Ok I stayed the same. [msnsmile2]

It may seem strange that I am happy about it, but believe me I have had three weeks of sheer temptation. So I am delighted I managed to stay stable, and this week I am being sooooo good!

However, I have a 50th Birthday on Sat, which will be tempting, does anyone know how many syns in a Smirnoff Black Ice? I can stand all night and not eat a bite, because I will eat my SW meal before I go, but I find it hard not to have a drink, does that sound bad? I just love parties and dancing, and a couple will get me lively!

I looked on the SW website for the syn value ~ but no joy! I thought I could bring along two Smirnoffs, and sip them slowly, and then I know what I have consumed!

mizzy
05-06-2006, 14:53
congratulations Theresa, staying the same usually means you in control and maintaining your weight so well done[clap][clap][clap]

i'm not sure about smirnoff black ice, but as a guess i would say it's similar to a bacardi breezer which would be approx 8-10, a vodka is 2.5 syns so how about a few of these?, add a diet mixer and your well away

i have a nice recipe for vodka jelly[msneek] if your interested[msnwink]

and i'm sure there'll be something you can have if it's a buffet, i generally stick to red days for buffets as there is nearly always some sort of meat and salad on these things

Morning all

Lovely day here again[msncool]

Theresa well done for staying the same.

A smirnoff black ice is 9 sins[msnscared]

Having a BBQ tonight so having a red day, just off to drop Rachel off at college to do her AS Business Studies exam then going to get the meat and salad.

Mizzy, I've done the same as you before, got to school and it's been teacher training. A few years ago I drove to school to pick the girls up and then walked home, it was only when I looked out of the window and wondered where the car was that I remembered I had left it at the school[msneek].

Hope everyone has a good day.

Twiglet
05-06-2006, 16:21
Well I am back home from work. I walked there and back today, so that was an extra half hour walk!

OMG I will NOT be going near the Smirnoffs then! Wow that's incredible!
I may as well mix my own then, and use a diet lemonade.

I usually eat before I go to an evening party, as I am less inclined to nibble. Australians tend to be 'bring a plate' enthusiasts. Nobody dreams of turning up anywhere without a huge plate of food in hand, so there is always enough to feed a small country! I find if I am full up when I get there, I can steer away from all the temptation.

The vodka jelly sounds nice ~ I guess that could be either a red or green day too [msnwink]

05-06-2006, 16:38
Mizzy, thank you I will have cous cous for tea instead then[msnwink]

Just had the lunch on day one of the new 7 day plan, toast, egg and beans - now this is a bit of a risk for me as I have not eaten baked beans for 10 years as they used to be bad for my IBS so watch this space[msneek]

Have a good pm all and good luck Mizzy for tonight!!!

Well done on staying the same Theresa[clap][clap][clap]

mizzy
05-06-2006, 16:49
Theresa, if it's bring a plate why dont you take something that you can have, how about little chicken kebabs made with cubed chicken breast and peppers, courgettes and red onion, feed them all onto skewers sprinkle over some seasoning/spices and cook in the oven for 20 mins or maybe mini fruit kebabs with a yoghurty dip[msntongue]

do you want me to post the recipe for vodka jelly?

Julie, fingers crossed for the beans then, i quite like those new heinz mean beanz "sweet chilli" ones they are lovely mixed with cooked rice and some chopped onion and garlic then stuffed into peppers and baked in the oven, one of my favourite teas on green [msnwink]

Morning all, another hectic day here! YD pulled an all-nighter as she was so stressed she couldn't sleep, she left for college at 6.20am, so bang went our plan of me driving her in to drop her off at the exam location (not at her college) for 8.30. Haven't heard from her yet, and she should be finished by now, not sure if that is a good thing or not. ED has spent all morning at the hospital as she is having a minor op on Thurs on her ear. We thought it would involve a couple of days of work and the nurse told her 1 - 2 weeks, crumbs, she will be into her 21st birthday by then, so she is now in panic mode.

Banana and porridge for brekkies, walk with the hounds (in wet car, 2 guesses who left their sunroof open when the heavens opened yesterday evening[msnembarrased]), cheese, onion & tomato frittata and salad for lunch, chicken breast & veggie kebabs and salad planned for supper. And tons of water.

vodka jellies (strictly for grown ups!!!!)

syns per jelly 1.5 on green and red

prep 25mins plus chilling
cook 10mins

4tbspn artificial sweetener
zest and juice of 6 limes
397ml soda water
250ml vodka
8 sheets of leaf geletine
113g redcurrants
113g blackcurrants

1. put 284ml water in a pan with the artificial sweetener, bring to the boil and cook for 5 mins. remove from the heat and add the lime zest and leave to steep for 15 mins.Strain into jug and add lime juice soda water and vodka.

2.soak the geletine in cold water for 5 mins to soften.Put 4tbsn water inot a pan bring to boil, remove from the heat, squeeze out the geletine add to the water and whisk.

3.Add a little of the vodka mixture to the geletine, stir and return to the jug. Divide the fruit between 16 shot glasses, pour over the vodka mixture, leave to cool and then chill until set.

swap the vodka for gin and tonic with 2 lemons and raspberries for a gin and tonic jelly or how about mailbu with raspberry and cherry for a tropical jelly

my bil made similar individual jellies using pimms and an assortment of fruit for his summer bbq last year and they where a huge hit,my dh's comment at the time was why waste good alcohol[msneek]

Good morning all.

Never mind about the weight gain Mizzy, today is another day and you will loose that easily this week as everyone says.

Good luck to Julie and Fiona on your weigh-ins today.

Visit to MIL went fairly smoothly she took us out for a meal to a carvery, they always give you far too much meat so we bring home a large doggy bag. I had lots of vegetables on my plate and cut down on the meat. We then shared a delicious sweet, naughty but it was nice[msnwink]

Having friends round for a BBQ this evening, cooking a large salmon, salad, new potatoes, etc. My downfall will probably be wine. Must try and be good.

Had a long walk this morning and playing badminton at lunchtime and going to try and fit some exercises in before they all arrive at 6pm.

Mizzy hope the trip to the doctors goes smoothly and nothing too serious.

Will probably be tomorrow before I catch up.

Have a good day all.

Morning all,

Had an hour long power walk this morning in the brilliant sunshine.[msnsmile]

Its my first weigh in tonight[msneek], not sure how that will go as I think I messed up for the first few days not knowing what to eat and forgetting about the healthy extras. Anyhow, whatever the scales say I certainly feel better already and I am just about grasping what I should and shouldnt be eating.

Mizzy, I hope you daughter is feeling a bit better soon. Good luck to Julie and Fiona and anybody else weighing in today.[msnsmile]

I will let you know how I get on later this evening.

Have a great day everyone.

Still not feeling too good-now on antibiotics. Don't like taking them but sinusitis isn't shifting!
Scales said I'd lost 2lb yesterday morning, but think it's partly due to not eating over the weekend. However, I'm sure I counteracted it as I went out for a meal last night, followed by cake, for my son's birthday[msnscared]

Mizzy, its only 39 weeks and 4 days till us lot jet off to florida, so that means its only 40 weeks and 4 days till you lot go. i've had a breakfast for breakfast/lunch as i had no time for a proper brekkie this morning with the doctors appt being so early

and i'm planning to have a chicken salad with tomato and basil dressing for tea - see back out from under those wheels on that bl**dy wagon[msnsmile2]

i was given a recipe in class last night for a carrot cake and the full cake = 11syns OR 1 healthy B choice and 6 syns FOR THE FULL CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Julie I am sure yours will be any spare residue of fat converting into muscle, or else it is fluid retention in the warm weather. If you have kept strictly to the food plan and done all that exercise the results will show - just perhaps not this week.

My group leader always says you should look at your weight loss on a monthly basis as this is a better reflection, and allows for the occasional blip!

Lovely weather isn't it and I am stuck indoors in an office[msncry]. Just had my 2 slices of frittata and salad and got a pear for later on. BBQ for supper with veggie kebabs - after the weigh in so might allow myself a glass of wine - or not depending on how I have done.

Due to the AS's this week - all day every day[msneek][msnoo] there is a vast amount of chocolate in the house, I am trying to be firm, but not always suceeding, luckily most of what I bought is penguins and rockys which I can ignore, it's the mini packs of minstrels and ripples that are rather more beguiling!

Julie B we fly out on March 30th from Manchester for 22 nights, don't own a villa although we have almost bought one so so many times, and have been going since 1983[msnwink]

Julieanne we would never forget you even when you are busy and don't post, you are part of the original line up[msnwink][clap]

Don't worry I will never go off the rails again I don't think, it feels like this is for life and I know I will succeed its just how long it takes me[msnscared]

There was a woman in my group who had been on holiday (all inclusive) for a week and eaten loads and she only put on 2lbs too[msnmad]

The weight I am at the moment is a bit of a psycological block as I have not been lower than this (or what I was 2 weeks ago) since my son was born 9 years ago, so I really need to break the barrier (which is also my Club 10 weight), get passed it and move on and lose another stone and 1 lb to now get to target[msnoo] My target is the weight I was before I got pregnant with number 3, but I may even want to go half a stone below that once I get there[clap]

Julie , yes it does make sense

my target is gonna be about 10 stone 7lbs (taking it half a stone at a time)and i haven't been anywhere near this weight for almost 12 years[msneek][msnembarrased]

my children have never seen slim mummy, just overweight, fat, uncomfortable mummy[msnsad]

i have been given a photo which was taken when i first met my dh and i dont look like i could ever have been that person[msneek]i'm soooooo thin and funnily enough i remember wearing the jeans in the picture and thinking i was huge

i've had a good day food wise, i've 100% food optomised and used 6 syns for salad dressing and jam so i'm very pleased with my self control[angel]

i never eat cereal but those weetabix adverts on the tv are tempting me to give this 7 day thing a go, weetabix count as a healthy B for two and most of the toppings are free and i could syn the others, i feel the times right for a little change to my brekkie and i would still have the option of having 1 slice of toast with my precious ginger jam if i have serious withdrawl symptons[msnwink] what do you think?

the doctors went ok Julie but i have just had a 25 min battle to administer 1 spray of medicine into my daughters ear, i feel like a monster and i'm mentally exhausted from it, with all the racket it's a wonder the neighbours didn't call the police thinking i was torturing her[msnscared]

i have come on here to take my mind of it all and to have a break[grouphug]

Mizzy

ps we where typing at the same time Sharon, it's good to have you back and Juie definately didn't deserve her gain (she's given it 100%) i'm afraid i was very naughty and did deserve mine[msnembarrased]

Welcome back Sharon.

You will get there in the end Julie, I seem to be getting there too but very very slowly[msnscared].

I have lots of little targets rather than one big one. 1/2lb more to go to be back to what I was in October. Then 5lb more to reach 1 stone off since joining SW, then another 4lb to reach my club 10. After that I haven't thought about, will see when I reach these targets.

Evening ladies,

Just got back from being weighed and have lost 2lbs. I am pretty pleased with that as to be honest I didnt really have a clue what I was doing and for most of the week have been living just on free foods, forgetting to have the healthy extras and hardly any sins![msneek]

I have done so many different diets but none ever like this one so once I get my head around it I am sure I will do well. I am going to try out some of the slimming world recipes for the next week and try to plan in advance my meals. I know now that I have to be more organised with what I am going to be eating instead of waiting until meal times and thinking "What can I have?"

Julie, glad to hear that you are feeling a more positive now and it probably is due to you doing lots of exercise. Have you tried taking your measurements as sometimes when you havnt lost any pounds you have lost inches.

Mizzy, I know exactly how you feel about the problems administering the medication, my ES was terrible when he was younger, it took one to hold him down while the other got the medicine in[msneek]

Congratulations Karen, did you stay for the meeting? I find this a great help.

Julie what can I say, you have been doing brilliant so hold your head up high and you will soon meet your target.

Mizzy sorry about the gain but as long as you enjoyed it, thats what matters[msnwink]

Sharon hope you had a great holiday.

I have hardly ate a thing today. Eve has not been a bit well so she was on my knee most of the day, feeling pretty drained myself now.

Thanks Les and Paula. Yes I did stay to the meeting Paula, as I needed lots of advice. I think its a good move to stay for the meetings anyway as there are probably lots to be learnt along the way. We also got a couple of free bags of sweet chilli flavour ryvita minis (5 syns) and money off vouchers. New password is salmon.

Oh congrats Karen, well done. Sweet chilli flavour Ryvita minis. Wow you lot mention some seriously nice things over there. Yummy!

Julie, darling, my heart goes out to you, I can't believe it myself. What a downer, you poor thing. Please don't let it deter you though, you have done so brilliantly. Do what Mizzy does, and repost your total to date, to spur you on. As others mentioned, you truly spur us on as well! Hang in there.

Interestingly, I caught 10 mins of Oprah on Monday, I was on my way to work and the TV was still going, but I hung back to listen to her, as she mentioned some guest of hers has gone down two dress sizes, but remained the same weight. She has been exercising in her quest to trim down, and although the scales hadn't registered any loss, the clothing had. I thought it was very interesting, and worth noting.

Good luck today everyone. Thanks for the carrot cake recipe, I will have to investigate that Bran stuff, and see if we have an equivalent here!

Well done Karen, that's an excellent start[clap]. Well I stayed the same, so must do better next week, going to pour over my books and really stick to the diet! No temptations for the next week except Thurs night when we are going to Wembley to see Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris. So will plan ahead and not eat a load of junk because I am starving!

I am not even admitting how much more I have got to lose, half stone batches will do me fine.

I must re-focus or I am just wasting my time and money. I am going to try and up the exercise, hard to power walk as the elderly dog (actually she is only 8 but suffers with a torn cruciate ligament that has been operated on twice and failed both times) cannot move that quickly. So have to get to the gym, no more excuses.

Welcome back Sharon, glad you enjoyed your hols, just got to pay the penance now!

Well it's five weeks to my hols today and I really want to be a stone lighter before then. I've now lost 9 1/2 lbs and another stone would be a great boost. I know if I stick to the plan 100% it can be done so lots of moral support needed.

I really need to start exercising but even a short walk around the supermarket and my legs are aching, this is all due to me not getting proper advice before jumping on the treadmill[msneek]

Eve has had a good nights sleep, I'm expecting her to come bounding in the kitchen any moment now. It's not too often she will sit on my knee these days so it was nice (kind of) to have her on my lap getting lots of cuddles yesterday.

Well done Sally[clap] and Fiona at least you didn't gain anything so well done to you too[clap]

Liz, hope you're having a fantastic holiday, if you're anything like my Mum and Dad though you will be busy in the villa.......enjoy

Gosh it seems ages since I posted here there has been no time for the past week I have had my Dda here and my life seems to go on hold .As a result I have wobbled and got in a rut withbfood -its hard to make Dad eat anything that isn't meat and 2 veg style meals and I get fed up so its back to the treadmill and grindstone for me now .I have had my fill of meat so its green for a while I think.

I have read all the posts I missed so I will say well done to all those who have lost ,chin up to those who haven't and to everyone else keep going.

good morning everyone

congratulations Karen on the weight loss, now you just have to fit in some healthy extras and some syns and you'll be well away but can i give you a quick tip about syns - dont ever think if you dont have them that you'll lose weight faster or lose more weight because this just isn't the case, i weigh lots of people at class and the ones whose weight loss is very slow are those that are ultra strict when it comes to syns. If you skip syns all you do is lead yourself into a vicious cricle of deprivation and then bingeing when you can't go without your favourite bar od choc or glass of wine, it's much better to think about changing your eating habits for long term success. Most diets fail because we "do without" then start to feel deprived so we give up and pig out and then feel like a failure, and so the vicious circle contibnues, with SW the key to success is to say YES!!! to your treats and to build them into a healthier way of eating all together[clap] ok lecture over[msnwink]

welcome to Sharon, it's always lovely to have new people join us[clap] we got sweet chill ryvitas in class too, my consultant said that she's been sent 17 boxes[msneek]

Paula, 100% commitment over the next 5 weeks then i'm sure you'll feel great at the end no matter how much weight you lose[msnsmile]

Julie, keep off those bl**dy scales they will determine your mood for the rest of the day, so try to wait until the next weigh in, i know it's hard!!

Fiona your doing great and even if you just maintain it means your still very much in control so well done you!

sounds like your having a great time Liz[msncool] wish we where there[msncry]

and finally Janny - here's to a fresh start

hope i haven't missed anyone out there seems to be a lot to remember and chat about all of a sudden!

Welcome to Sharon and welcome back Janny, It's amazing how everyone chatters away on here.

Well done to the weight loss girls, and hard luck to those who didn't. Feel I might be there this week with one big meal out and a BBQ last night although I was very good, avoided the nibbles, bread and dressings and ice cream, just had the strawberries. Also only had 1 1/2 glasses of wine. Have to do lots of exercise today and tomorrow before weigh in.

Must dash now, catch up later.

Have a good day all.

Hi all,

Well done Fiona for maintaining, its better than gaining. I am not admitting how much I need to lose either and will be happy with half stone goals. A stone before my hols would be brilliant so will do my best, 1 month 25 days to go and counting.

Julie, I agree that you should stop going on the scales every day as it does tend to get you a bit disheartened if no loss is shown. Glad you are feeling a bit brighter, its not the end of the world and you will get to your target soon.

Mizzy, I know that I should be having the syns but was convinced that I couldnt eat so much, so I was a bit scared.[msneek] The leader last night said exactly the same so I am going to have them this week and see what lies ahead with next weigh in.

Welcome Sharon and welcome back Janny. Sorry if I have missed anybody out.

Thanks ladies....Isn't this weather wonderful???

Well back on track yesterday and today and feeling positive.

Had my weetabix and banana, lots of other fruit throughout the day, lots of water and cooking Tuna steaks for dinner with lots of fresh veg.
I love sauces and would love to try a new sauce to go with Tuna, any ideas anyone???....obviously low calorie and low fat!![msnwink]

Been for a power walk but now my backs killing me!![msncry][msncry]....but hopefully burnt off some excess weight!!!

07-06-2006, 22:16
Sharon I always make a sauce with small tomatoes and add mixed herbs and sometimes peppers, for speed just micro the toms and mixed herbs ready in 2 mins just poor over seared tuna[msnwink]

Mizzy / Karen I will not weigh myself until next Tuesday then - but it had better be a loss by then[msnscared]

Green day today from the 7 day plan but swapped some meals around[msnwink]

porridge hc b with skimmed milk (4 syns for 200 mls?)
skinny latte hc a
muller lite yogs x 2 cherry bakewell 1syn and banana and custard 1 syn
mushroom omelette with grilled toms and brown sauce (1 syn)
jacket pot with cottage cheese & pineapple and salad with syn free dressing
2 litres of water[angel]

still got a hc a and b left so may have a snack later maybe a weetabix with fruits and yog[msntongue]

am I right that muller lites are free on both green and red days?

total syns 7 (is that about right Mizzy??)

mizzy
07-06-2006, 22:36
thats about right Julie[msnwink]

muller light yoghurts are free on both days with the exception of the cake and custard ones
lemon cheesecake 0.5syns, cherry bakewell 1syn and apple pie 1syn banana and custard 1 syn

we had a taster in class mon night Julie of those shape lasting satisfaction ones and the're all free and where v.nice[msntongue]

Sharon how about playing with some very low fat natural yoghurt and adding lemon zest and juice and black pepper and this would be nice on the tuna or maybe a tomato based one with roasted peppers, black olives (1 syn for 7) and garlic for a mediterranean style sauce

my food diary for today looks like this

toast and ginger jam 2 syns(haven't bought the weetabix yet!)
lemon cheesecake muller yog 0.5 syns
baked potato with sweet chilli beans and cheese using a healthy A choice
banana, apple for snacks
quorn curry with rice (syn free)
and later cadburys mini honeycomb bites 4 syns for chocolate without the guilt [msnsmile2][msntongue][msnwink]

so another good day for me[angel]

Good evening all,

Had such a hectic day and had to come home and have my friendly computer guy out because my outlook express was playing up, turned up that I had too much in it so have had to go down another route for emails. Got that sorted out and DH and I sat on our patio in the evening sun and had a glass of wine.

Had a red day today,
Cereal and fruit for breakfast,
Egg salad and apple for lunch
Yoghurt when I got home
Salmon and salad with new potatoes (HC) for supper followed by strawberries.

I'm sure someone was having a weigh-in today but can't remember who but whoever it was hope it went well.

Now off to chill out in front of the TV for a change.

Hi all - I just keep dipping in and out of this thread - there is always so much to catch up on! I have my second weigh-in tomorrow night (Thurs). have also been jumping off and on the scales during the week which as you say - does not do any good.

have struggled a bit this week on syn values... fancied a tortilla wrap this evening but could not find a syn value. Then decided to go for a slice of rye bread but at 3 syns per 28 gramms decided not to bother so ended up feeling disgruntled...

I used to do W.Watchers and have a gizmo thingy to calculate the points value of foods - does anyone know how weight watchers points values compare to syn values if at all? Just wondering what I could do when i can't find a syn value in my handbook - I can't always get on line to check on the SW website you see...

Lovely to read all the moral support going on here!
Thanks a bunch and good luck to all...

Hi Les,

If you are not able to always check online you may be better to buy the slimming world directory which lists almost every make of food values. From what I can gather it is the bible of syns etc that the slimming world leaders use to find the syn values so must be worthwhile. I could kick myself that I didnt buy it at the club last night £6.95, not sure you can buy it elsewhere.

Aww Sharon. Half a pound is nothing and can be lost in the blink of an eye. You have the right attitude, upwards and onwards and try that little bit harder next week. Well look after yourself Theresa, that's a nasty virus, and of course when you are ill you want to eat comfort food, so you need to watch out for that one - so speaks the voice of experience.

Sharon you can easily get rid of half a pound, and at least that is all it is.

Ok, tomorrow is a mega mad day. Catriona (ED) is having an operation tomorrow - once we have phoned at 6.30am to check the bed is still available - it's a last minuter, they rang up last Friday and said can you come Thursday! Chris & I are going to see Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris at Wembley tomorrow night, and I am just hoping she is released by 3.30pm, as I will need to be home pretty soon after that for feeding the hounds & a quick walk and getting picnic food ready to take up in the back of the car. As am likely to be at the hospital quite a bit of the day no doubt will be stretched on the old good eating front. Have bought count on you chicken salad sarnie from M&S and fruit to have for supper, but need to have something fairly substantial for lunch. My lovely mum is on standby in case she is not ready before I have to go, and she will come over and take her home.

For some reason I decided to nip to Reading to do some shopping today for my friend's wedding. A) I was hot, B) there is NOTHING to choose from so I only found 2 items to try on, C) one didn't fit properly, other one got the vote of approval from YD but I didn't like it enough to spend £110 on it. So am going to (hopefully) find the time to nip to the upmarket second hand shop that specialises in stuff for evening wear, weddings etc. at the weekend. Otherwise it might be the hire shop. Did find something that looked nice in M&S in their Limited Edition but as YD pointed out highly likely to find someone else in it. I am so fed up and depressed, having been feeling good about the weight I have lost, when I try on clothes nothing fits properly. Everything falls off me round the bust - and finding something that is not too low is a complete nightmare as have cleavage only on one side, so need things that are a couple of inches above this. But to add insult to injury where it is falling of me round the shoulders and bust is slightly too tight for comfort round the midriff as everything sailed south after the last bout of surgery. Can you all hear a gnashing and a wailing going on!!

Been good today apart from a double scoop in a waffle cone of strawberry carte d'or ice cream, don't think I dare look that one up!!

Have a good day tomorrow everyone and good luck anyone who is being weighed. I might not be on until late tomorrow as likely to be at the hospital most of the day I think. Just had a thought - need to take something with me, will get my mags and 'bible' as well as a book and get the planning done.

Good morning all.

Sally, sorry to hear about Jessica, hope she is feeling better this morning, hope you are going to be able to make tonights weigh-in. Let me know if you can't make it, otherwise I will see you there as usual.

Fiona, I am sure you will find something to fit you, have you a friendly dressmaker you would be able to alter something if it is too large on top but fits the lower halp of you. Then alter it back again when you have had your op and lost more weight.

Paula, have a super weekend, at least I think it is the weekend if you were able to get things sorted out with your friends.

Sharon, 1/2lb will easily go, it could easily have been that last drink of water you had had which make the difference. On weigh-in days I do not drink so much water during the day as I know it can make quite a difference to the scales, I just make up my 2 litres when I come home.

Les, you must buy the syn book, it is absolutely invaluable, I even take my shopping to make sure that I am not buying anything with too high a syn value.

Mizzy, I like to save my some of my daily sins up and then I know that if I go off the rails one day it has not been too disastrous.

Theresa, hope the cold does not develop too much and that you soon feel better.

Julie, you are late checking in this morning, was there a lie-in[?]

Will check-in later and see how everyone is today. Now off for a walk with the dog and DH.

Sorry if I have forgotten anyone, there are so many now that I loose track.

Good luck to anyone else who has a weigh-in today.

Les WW points are nothing like SW syns and there's no general rule of thumb, if you have a class consultant then they are usually happy to get syn values for you, if in doubt dont eat it until you can check it out

Sharon, the trick with the weetabix is to put a small amount of water on first before you add your milk, this way they soak up the water and then you don't need as much milk or how about having your weetabix with yoghurt?
as soon as i can get to the supermarket i'm going to give that weetabix week a go that seems to be on every ad break, i think there's a website for it and not sure but it's something like theweetabixweek.com, it mainly fruit and toppings like yoghurt and honey all of which are either free or quite low in syns and i do need to alter my B choices a little so i dont get bored

Mizzy, we have a border collie called Tansy and is inexhaustible. It does not matter how far we walk her or give her ball games she is always ready for more. On saturdays I go to agility classes with here which she loves, I'm the one who comes back exhausted from that as I have to follow and do the same courses as her. Next month I along with are doing a demonstration with her at a show at Fleet in Hampshire. Should be fun.

Morning all!!!

Beautiful day so I am going to treat myself and sit out for 10 mins[msnwink]

Mrs G - I use Sainsburys frozen summer fruits, they are very cheap £1.50 ish for about 4-5 portions in a bag, if you get them out of the freezer before you go to bed and put them on top of the weetabix and leave it in the fridage overnight the juice soaks into the weetabix, I also add a spash of skimmed onto the weetabix first, then when you are ready to eat just poor on a natural low fat yog - I like the Activa but I think they are 1 syn each.[msntongue]

Jill no lie in for me Mon-Fri, was still up at 5.30 but DH was off to Leeds so had to get him organised first before everything else, well I am his PA as well as his Mrs and Business Partner LOL!!!![msnsmile][msnsmile][msnsmile]

Paula have a wonderful time in Dublin[clap][clap][clap] Are you weighing in today? If so good luck!

Mizzy, thanks Yes I use 2 x hc a's for my skinny lattes (repeat after me............I am a Starbucks addict, I am a Starbucks addict..........................[msnwink][msnwink][msnwink]

Sally hope Jessica is better soon[grouphug] I hate cleaning up[sick]think I would have to get it valeted[msnscared] Good luck to you and Jill for tonight[clap][clap]

Jill i had a suspicion it was a border collie , i grew up with them, my parents have 2 (used to be 3 until a few years ago) and as you say the're inexhaustable dogs.

My parents dogs are both female and one is a short haired border collie and the other is a regular border collie, they are both very well trained and very obedient dogs ,clever too they can even spell, especially the words w-a-l-k and o-u-t[msnwink]

I'd love a dog but have enough on my plate so it's too big a commitment, maybe when the children are older

Hello everyone,

Well now I'm back on track I feel able to admit that I too put on a pound last week[msnsad] but I've been sooooo good since Sunday[angel] that if I haven't lost it and more besides I'll eat my hat (how may syns for that? lol.

When you lot have a salad, do you have dressing on it? if so what kind and how much and how many syns would that be? I really like creamy garlic ones, the most fattening of course! I nearly made a vital error on Tuesday evening. Made a lovely salad with egg and new potato for my tea. DH had bought some nice looking and smelling dressing, I was about to put some on when I checked the label. Now I know its Rosemary Connoly that counts fat not SW but I used to do that one so I always check that and this one was 47.6g per 100g. Thats nearly 50% FAT. I nearly fell over, I'm so glad I checked before putting it on my dinner!

The one I do like but have cut out this week is the heinz table sauces - Garlic & Chive, how many sins would be in that?

Menu for the last couple of days:

Porridge for breakfast
Tuna Salad with a wholemeal pitta bread for lunch, and an apple and a satsuma
egg salad with new potatoes (baby ones, about 4)
Maybe a geo bar or something similar

Does this sound ok?

And, Julie, I've even been managing to drink 2 litres of water a day yipee! Trouble is, been to the loo so many times at work think they're getting fed up with me. Still, we need a break from the computer every 40 mins don't we![msnwink]And I have to go to the otherside of the school to use the staff loos so the exercise is good for me too!

Hope everyone is OK, great to hear from a few newcomers, hope you're getting on OK

Hiya all, back much earlier than expected from the hospital. Had to phone at 6.30 to confirm op, told no beds but come anyway. So off we set - barely a soul on the road which is one advantage, had our pick of the car park so stuffed my money in (like anyone WANTS to part in the back end of beyond near Slough for any other reason than you are visiting a hospital), having been told she was due down to surgery at 8.30.

8.30 surgeon does his pre-surgery rounds and tells her he wants to do it by local not general, Cat agrees (I am thinking I hope you lot know what you are in for but smile sweetly and say nothing!) so instead of going back home to walk hounds etc I stay. Have to pump more money into the car par, and find my car cordoned off and when I get there am asked to move - from the shade of course. So I then do a sweep of the car park 3 times and end up having to park outside on the road, so they lose another £1.50 in income!

10.30 she goes off and comes back about 45 mins later - very upset and in alot of pain. She said it hurt alot and she made a fuss (21 next week going on 2 in this respect)- she is not good with pain and anything on the ear is extremely painful. Painkillers dispensed and she is sent on her way with not even a cup of tea - but by then she wanted to get home asap. Had to stop to buy some painkillers but she is now dozing on the sofa.

So far had mug of tea, bottle of water, a few grapes and am waiting while my jacket pot cooks which I am going to have with cottage cheese and salad.

Have a good day all, and enjoy your concert Paula, am hoping it is not going to be too hot at Wembley or will be drinking tons of water at extortionate prices!

08-06-2006, 17:30
Julie b, I am using a WW French Dressing at the moment and its 6 cals per 15g or 39 cals per 100g which is the lowest I can find anywhere and I consider it 'free'.

My old dressing (pre SW) was the Pizza Express Light which was 330 per 100g[msneek][msnoo]

mizzy
08-06-2006, 17:45
there are quite a few free dressings, some of the kraft ones are ok, i think it's the italian, tomato and basil and the french ones

the extra light hellmans is ok too, it has very little syns or you could make you own creamy dressing Julie B with some vlf natural yog crushed/finely chopped garlic and chives and that would be FREE!!!!!

personally i like the kraft honey and mustard which 1.5syns per level tbspn and i also use 2 spoons in a pasta dish and then add some fresh mustard to spice it up a little

Well done Paula[clap]

Fiona, hope your daughter is soon feeling better and pain free. Have a great time tonight.

Good luck to Jill and Sharon for weigh in.

I usually go to the pub Thursday evening with my friend to do the pub quiz. We have decided that since we are rubbish at the quiz we will go on another brisk walk instead[angel] We did a brisk walk the other day and when I clocked it in the car it turned out that it was 5 miles that we did.[msnsmile2] We are going to do the same route tonight and will try to do it in less time if we can. We both have blisters on the same big toe so we might not manage to do it any quicker, but at least we will give it a go.

This lovely weather certainly makes the eating plan a lot easier, I am eating tons of fruit which can only be a good thing.

Keep up the good work everybody.

Julie, Mizzy thanks for the "weetabix" tips!!! I too love those adverts and want to try something new. I only put a very little amount of skimmed milk on mine because I dont like them soggy! I think having the natural yogurt instead and a little water may be the answer!!......off to buy some of the summer fruits..I thinks!![msnwink][msnwink]

...oh and can you believe I've burnt my nose with all this sunshine!!! I can go 3 weeks to Florida and anywhere else and it never burns and look at me now[msnembarrased][msnembarrased]

Hi All - just back from SW - lost 1.5lb! Really pleased as I was a little unsure of what I was doing this week...

Will buy an SW syns book next week. Have just been given an Asda syns book and was given an M&S book when I joined, but I won't be using the m&S one..

So many people on this thread that I am sure to miss out someone so can I say have a great time to all going to concerts, to those with poorly offspring or who have not been to good themselves, hope things pick up for you soon. To all that have lost GREAT!!! - to all who have not, it's only one week! and to all the rest of us, keep fighting the good fight!!

I have 5 months until I go to Florida again - and am aiming to lose half a stone per month before I go (slowly but surely!). Now that I have admitted this in public [msnembarrased]- I will have to keep on the straight and narrow[msnsmile2]

Thanks for this great thread and all support - it's brill![clap][clap][clap]
