Florida Money Saving Jar Club

Hi All

A good tip for saving for your next trip to Florida is to make a holiday money saving jar with a difference. I know this sounds sad but it actually works!! Bare with it!!

We have an old Demi-Jon which we have decorated with printous of our most favourite places we visited whilst last in Florida last year. For us we have places on it like Red Lobster, Seaworld, Disney, Premium Outlets, Ben & Jerry, Universal, Congo Golf etc. etc.

We have it in the Kitchen and everytime we walk by it we can see it and it entices us to chuck in our pocket change at the end of the day/week etc.

In just over 2 months we have saved £310 and as soon as we reach about £200, we convert it into dollars.

It's a real good way of saving that little bit extra that you probably would waste on that extra bottle of wine or curry etc!! Its also a bit of fun for the kids as our daughter even throws in the occasional copper or two! We have set a target of £1500 by April '08

As an additional way of helping it grow - why not form the "Florida Money Saving Jar Club" here on the forum?

Good idea with the saving up though - whenever I'm short on cash, I go round all my coat pockets and those in the car and find you can accumulate quite a lot of change. [msnwink]

I've done the same. Evrything bar £1 coins (and notes) go in to it, and since mid-Jan, I have saved £170, which will all be converted to dollars, or spent on park tickets[msnsmile2]

we do it to, we have a "penny" jar but i am now sticking pound coins as well as all the rest, Lauren now has £200 in her bank account for the next flroida trip in 5 months, am about to count up and bank again this week, so she will have loads of spending money, shes only 11 and loves the idea!!!

we have one too, it's a giant cola shaped bottle that we bought from the big W, we put any coins 50p and under into it [msnsmile]

my other half tends to empty his wallet and leave the loose change all over the place so it's a case of find and seek sometimes

I have a big tin that has to be opened with a can opener to get the money out, I bought my Mum one to and when it was full it had almost £500 in it, mine has about £22[laugh]

We have a giant piggy bank that our daughter named Wilbur. We put in anything silver at the end of each day.

We had a trip to the bank with what we had collected since September and we had £280 [msnsmile2]

We must already be full members of the Florida Money Saving Club [msnsmile]

Why not give yours to your Mum to look after

We did the same for our first ever trip 10 years ago as we were going to surprise our daughter and also we didn't want to see how much was in there. I cut a slot in the top of an old Roses jar and then taped the lid shut and stuck Florida pitures cut out from holiday brochures so you couldnt see anything and we hid it in our wardrobe. By the time we had finished we had something like £500 in the jar when we opened it.
