Thanks chris
just found a whole page on british bread and the shops to find it in on page 13 so this is prob an old topic for everybody but at least it puts it back on page 1 with new updates
We've had this discussion before somewhere, I'm sure. Try using the search facility at the top of the page, it's v. handy.
I [u]think</u> that the general concensus was the the Italian bread from Publix was voted the most similar to British bread. We bought it when we were over earlier this month and it is the same taste as loaves we get over here, just a bit smaller in size. You'll find it in the bakery section with the rest of the fresh bread.
Must learn to type faster!!:D
Yes, Publix is the only place to go to buy decent bread in Florida in my opinion;)

Especially if you get there early when the French Sticks are still warm.:D
Try the breakfast bread (sort of fruity and nutty) as toast - it's wonderful! [msnwink]
The Italian bread is lovely from Publix too. The nearest to fresh British bread we found!
Well have you tried Albertsons they do a number of special breads from all over Europe. The one they call 'Great Plains' is very nice. There about $2.50 a loaf and they don't make that many per day but they do some real different ones.

Italian in Wal*Mart is also very good - similar to a large baguette but fatter - lol. Bit like me after two weeks in Florida !!! [msnscared]

Super Target do some lovely bagels. The cheese ones and ones called 'everything' I think are scrumptious toasted with cream cheese ham and tomatoes-yum!
Also-not quite in the Orlando area-but if you fancy a trip out with a bit of a difference-get yourselves up to Yalaha-that's up the 27 past Clermont -right along the 19 to Tavares-and then at the T junction you will see a sign saying Yalaha.
There's a german bakery on the left hand side-you can't miss it. The cakes and breads are really something else. If you go on a Saturday morning they have a bit of entertainment and you can eat outside if you wish. You can then carry on into MT Dora-a fascinating little place that's well worth a visit.(Double back on yourself to the T junction and take a left )
Yhe closest to British bread we have found is White Mountain found at Publix. It has always asamed us that the bread is sooo expensive in Florida.

Oooooohh and don't forget to try the fried chicken at Publix too. Really unhealthy but oh so good. Better than KFC, imho, and I love KFC. I miss Publix! [msncry]
