View Full Version : Help please - X box - which one?
Our son's birthday is looming on the horizon. He wanted a Wii so I was all geared up for buying one. He's now changed this to an x box 360 live??? Can anyone please give advice? I know absolutely nothing about them[:I] When I logged online there are lots of different options, premium, elite etc. Any advice is welcome.

The xbox 360 premium is quite good.
Thanks everyone.
What with nintendo ds, psp, ps3...I'm hoping if he gets an x box there will be plenty of games. He said the same about the wii my niece has one and although they like to use it they get fed up of the same games. Hopefully I should be able to get a decent bundle but I hate it when you go into shops with the pushy salepeople so I'd rather have some idea before we go.

There are loads of games on the xbox360, i have a 360, ps3 and wii and i must say the xbox is by far the best console and i would recommend getting the elite as it has a much bigger hard drive, 120GB and with the new software update coming soon you can install the games on the hard drive for faster loading. highly recommended.

US wii games will not work on a UK machine, only some 360 games work, ones without region coding abit like dvds

The only games that I know that work from the US is the DS games, but there could be others.

Thanks that's worth knowing for my next visit
Some Blue Ray movies are locked to a code (similar to regional) so don't think you can stock up on any old film from the US that will play on your UK PS3! There are sites giving lists of what movies play on UK sites. Goggle the phrase and you'll find them easy or DM for more info.

Many major movies on blu-ray are region coded, though it does vary from studio to studio:
Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios release all titles region free, corresponding to their former support of the mandatory region free HD DVD format. Lionsgate releases most titles region free, while Disney and Sony Pictures release a mix of region free and locked titles. 20th Century Fox is the only studio that releases all titles region locked.
The Blu-ray regions differ from those of DVD. There are only 3:
Region A: East Asia (except Mainland China and Mongolia), Southeast Asia, North America, South America and their dependencies.
Region B: Africa, Southwest Asia, Europe (except Russia), Oceania and their dependencies.
Region C: Central Asia, East Asia (Mainland China and Mongolia only), South Asia, Europe (Russia only) and their dependencies.
So most US discs won't play on a UK player. Some titles such as documentaries (eg Life on Earth) are region-free but check on Amazon if you're not sure.
Most (all?) PS3 games are region free though, so there's no issue with these.
Edit: Edited to clarify which studies do what

Mario Party is a good family game and super smash brawl is favourite of my sons. The kids also like beach sports.
