View Full Version : Distances.
Last year we rented a villa at Hampton Lakes, although the villa was perfect we found the travelling to and from disney a little long. This year we are renting at Lake Wilson Preserve as the adverts said it was only a short distance to disney. Now after looking at a map Lake Wilson does not seem much closer than Hampton.I have read of these 15 minutes travelling time, but is that realistic.
Thank you.

I think if you travel via I4 junction 58 ( only a couple of minutes from LWP)Disney is just a tad shorter travelling time. 15 mins or less from LWP is very realistic.
However in the great scheme of things nothing is very far and often depends on traffic.
Both are great locations.[msnsmile]

It also depends on what is classed as being "at Disney".
EG does it mean 15 minutes to the car park booth at MK or does it mean 15 minutes until the road you are travelling on has Disney Road signs and you are on Disney property?
I think it usually means the latter which is where the 15 minutes to Disney comes in and is correct;)
We own at Lake Wilson Preserve and it usually takes us 10 minutes to Disney Main Gate - which is the usual definition that owners use to qualify the distance from villas to Disney. As Liz has already mentioned, it is just one junction on the I4 from Champions Gate. You will find the location very accessible to everywhere, and in my opinion, you have made a good choice. Have you rented from this site?
You have made the perfect location choice in my opinion!
We own close to LWP and can be parked at Downtown Disney in around 15 mins. As others have said there is no set definition of where these timings relate to. You have to remember that Disney property covers an area roughly equivalent to the greater London area! I would say that traffic volume and therefore time is more relevant than actual distance.
You can also get to Disney by going straight up Old Lake Wilson Rd, turn left on the 192 and almost immediately right into Sherberth Rd. This leads onto Osceola Parkway which is also useful for avoiding the traffic on the 192, especially going east.
You are also ideally placed for access to the I-4 for Tampa.
Have a brilliant stay.

Times are normally quoted for the front gate of Disney. Depending on what park you are going to could be another 10-15 mins but that is going to be the same for everyone.

we own on Lake Wilson also and have never been more than 10 minutes from the villa to Disney.
We use the I4 to make our way to Disney but come home via Sherberth Road and onto the 192 - again this takes no more than 10-15 minutes.
Enjoy your holiday.

We live on the 54 near to LWP and again we have done the drive to Disney property in just ten mins or so. So 15 minutes is geninely realistic from LWP to Disney property.
I think sometimes the driving times are underestimated by owners. Sorry. I know it makes the house more attractive but I think it can be a problem. The driving times we were quoted from Esprit were way out.

I have to defend owners especially on this site.
Most have spent many weeks per year at their villas and if like me have timed door to door journeys.
westhaven for example on cr54 ( champions gate ) is between 11min ( best time ) to 15min worst time to disney welcome sign.
i know I have driven it many many times.
Only last week did epcot car park to villa in 20 minutes.

Driving time is always relative to the traffic, time of day, roadworks, accidents, etc.
I think it's very unfair to suggest that owners make up timings just so that they can get bookings. To do this would be totally dishonest and be like advertising a facility in the house that it didn't have.
I personally would never advertise anything I wouldn't be able to do for myself (or that I know is not in our home) and I have driven to Disney many times within the time stated on my advert.
What is a couple of minutes difference in travelling time, if it is a wonderful villa with everything you were looking for? You could be caught at a red light one day which might add a minutes extra time to your journey and then sail through on green the next. I do think if you are talking 10, 15 or 20 minutes the important thing is the right villa for your vacation. Five or so extra minutes in traqvelling time is really not going to make or break your vacation or holiday, but the right choice of home will certainly make all the difference. Where will you spend most time - in the car or enjoying all the wonderful features of the villa?
Linda
I am not saying all are exaggerated but from looking through the site I think some are. During a fortnights holiday at Esprit we never once did the drive in the time advertised. I am not a slow driver and we were at the speed limit most of the time so that was not the problem. Also the traffic was not bad.
I have heard other people on here have the same experience so I know it is not me.
I have stayed at Sunset Lakes aswell and that was an accurate description of driving times. So obviously not everyone - but definetely some.
A few minutes here and there do not make a difference really but it would be nice to have it accurate.
Oh and I do think driving distances matter. I would be reluctant to stay at Esprit again due to the driving time compared to Sunset Lakes.
Did you use the new toll road, the 429 which leads straight into Disney, Millie? We find that has made the journey very much quicker, as few people use it. It also makes getting out of Disney a breeze when the I-4 is clogged up.
As so many people have said, there are many factors involved, such as the amount of traffic, and whether or not you are unlucky enough to hit all the red lights.
The timings are only a guide, and it does not matter which development you are on, from time to time it may be quicker or slower.

Depends how you define 'roughly'[msnwink]
The total Disney complex is approx 80sq km.
Greater London is approx 1,579sq km
So using that criteria as a guide, I have been to the USA 'roughly' 120 times this year;)

I'm not sure I agree - I imagine a very small minority might be a bit liberal with the truth but in general the ones we have seen on the site look reasonable. Any that we think are blatantly wrong we would ask the owner to change as we'd not be happy with misleading information on our sites.
It obviously depends on so many things such as route, traffic, time of day, do you pass schools at opening / closing time etc etc.
I know the times we quote for our own villa are accurate as we've done it in that time on lots of different occasions. We did have one guest complain they were not accurate and that it took them 45 mins to get to Disney. When I asked them for more details it turned out they had ignored our recommended route and instead went all the way down the 192 and got caught at tons of red lights.

Personally I never quote times its far too woolly, I quote the distance 4.5 miles.
I also think if it is important to you ie I want to be as far away from Disney as poss, ut near to a golf course OR I have a small child and need to be near to Disney -you should look at the miles away from the point you need- For instance our Estate [Sunset LAkes] maybe 3 miles from Disney, but its 25 miles from Southern Dunes Golf course -so what suits one doesn't suit another- time wise -we can get to Disney in 5 mins, but its 30 mins from SD -[although there are Golf Courses nearer to SL I would add]
Traffic, Weather conditions, and the car you drive can all make a diff to the timing, so ask for mileage if it matters. However, you have picked a lovely estate- I am sure you will have a wonderful time!!
I agree - distnace would be far better to quote. Driving times are wooly!
Thanks Susan - we have stayed there before in a lovely villa and it was fantastic. We have 2 small children so the short journey to Disney suits us great.

Sorry guys have to disagree
mileage can also be very misleading.
Case in point if a community is say 3 miles to disney but you have to travel down 192 or back roads or through lots of lights.
it could easily take say 20 minutes.
But a community 5 miles away 3 minutes from I4 then one stop up 5 minutes away may get the false impression the 3 mile away is much more suitable.
At the end of the day miles from certain points is only as the crow flies and we all drive to a destination via a car on roads.
just be honest with guests give them good directions and let them get on with it.
you will soon get feedback in your visiters book through testimonials

Where exactly do you leave the 429/join it on exit for Disney?
I've looked at maps and there doesn't appear to be an exit for Disney but i had read somewhere else that it did give directr access.
Is it quicker than using Sherberth road for instance?
If you join the 429 from the 192, approximately 3 miles east of the junction with the 27, you drive a short distance then get straight off, just past the first toll booth. It is now marked on maps, and the exit number is 8. This leads onto Western Way, which meets World Drive, close to Animal Kingdom and MGM. It is particularly good to use at night as we just go straight along World Drive, or Buena Vista Drive from whichever park we are in, and back on the 429, and the roads are usually empty.

So is the 429 signposted now when you are on Disney Roads/Property like the I4 and 192 are?
Also, i can see this on an online map service now, but which would be quicker from Emerald Island? Going West from Formosa Gardens and Joining the 429 to go to Disney or going East from Formosa Gardens and usinf Sherberth Road and Osceola parkway to get to Disney? or is it really much the same?

We do not mind the ride to all theme parks as lots to see on the way and if you have not been before you see places you would like to go back another day .
We are not far from disney but we give 2 routes if asked on booking .

The 429 is certainly signposted around the Animal Kingdom/World Drive area. I am not sure about signposts at the other end of Disney property. As long as you drive along Buena Vista Drive towards Animal Kingdom you cannot miss it, as Western Way is signposted.
Shall have to pay more attention next time, to the signposts, but we are so familiar with the route that we have just not noticed, sorry! [msnembarrased]

Hi Graham,
I would go west and use Sherberth. If you use the 429 you get into the back Disney roads near Coronado Springs and service areas, whereas with Sherberth you are on Osceola Parkway immediately and at AK. If you want MGM or Epcot, I think you will be better joining World Dive along the 192. That part of World Drive takes you straight into MGM.
It just may be slightly quicker using the 429 if you want Magic Kingdom.
