View Full Version : Dinner Shows
In all the years we've gone, we've never tried any of these. There's Medieval Times, Arabian nights, Dixie Stampede et al.
My question is fairly simple - are any of them worth seeing? Need to bear in mind, the reason we haven't gone so far is that we had an impression (possibly erroneously) that they're all a bit tacky and over-hyped.
So, should we give any of them a go? If so, which? Or were we right and they really are a bit naff? Kids are 4,8,12,15. (We haven't done Cirque du Soleil yet either, but we will remedy that this trip).

We did Pirates DEcember 2005. Quite a few of the children get to join in bits of this. Food was average but show was good. There was a short pre show bit. The main show and meal (approx 1 hour) and then the disco after.

Glad to hear the show was good Chris as we are going to see it with some friends at Christmas.[msnsmile]
I havnt been to any of the shows either, but from what I have heard from people that have been, they are ok so long as you dont expect the food to be much good.
The age of your kids, I should imagine they will enjoy the shows though and I suppose it is a bit different than a normal meal out or visiting the theme parks.

We went to Arabian Nights in December and we all had a good time. We have 3 girls aged 6,8 and 13.
I've just asked my incredibly hard to please 13 year old if she would go again and she said "yes, I enjoyed it" and that's good enough for me!
We enjoyed the Arabian Nights, a couple of years ago, but my favourite has to be Dolly Partons Dixie Stampede - the food was really good, and the beer, wine and soft drinks really were "endless". Plus the show itself was excellent. We will go back to this one again:D
we did the pirates one in march 05 and it was a good night out, the food was average to ok
we sat at the front for which you pay a few dollars extra but it guarantees interaction for the children
the boys loved dressing up and fighting the pirates and they both received certificates at the end of the show for helping to defeat the baddie
you are designated a pirate based on your seating area when you arrive and ours was the purple pirate
surprisingly he was from the uk and he happily posed for photos with the boys, oh yes and for the mums too[msnwink] well he was a bit of a dish[msnsmile2]

Went Dolly Partons Dixie Stampede ages ranging from forty something to ten and every one enjoyed it the food was pretty good and loads of it.The Kids joined in with a couple of the races and got medals and as long as you enjoy them for what they are I`m sure you will have fun.

We've never been to one, but I would say that when you look at the amount of things to do in Florida they would have to be reasonably good for them to survive the competition.
If they were that tacky, and the food was that bad, they would have died out a long time ago.

We have done Arabian Nights, and the show was very good, with fairly average food.
IMHO Cirque du Soleil is streets above them all.

We've been to Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede and it was really good. We've got 3 teenage daughters who are quite fussy eaters and they all thought the food was great and that the show was wonderful.[msnsmile2]

We did Medieval Times last year, our kids were 13 & 14 years old. The seating is arranged in sections who each support a particular knight, so lots of cheering needed. We all enjoyed the evening and the food was fine if you don't mind eating with your fingers! All part of the party atmosphere!

We went to Pirates at Christmas, and I can only say that it was a waste of time and money. We are going again in a couple of weeks, and one of the first things the kids said when we told them was that "we are NOT doing another dinner show!!!!!" Our children are now 14, 11, and 7, and I suppose that in the entertainment capital of the world, a tacky dinner show just can't compete. Perhaps you should go anyway. You might enjoy it, or if you didn't you would get it out of your system!
Good Luck.
We found Sleuths really enjoyable and the food is good too (don't have the pasta though!). It's relatively small and intimate and the audience get to participate, which was really good fun.
The only show which seems to get consistently good reviews for both food and entertainment is Dollys Dixie Stampede, most (if not all) of the other shows are let down by the quality of the food, the Arabian Nights meal we had was terrible!.
Hi
We've never done any nights shows, far too tired after doing the parks, but this time we were thinking of maybe 1 night, doing something a bit different.
As this trip is to celebrate 18 & 21 birthdays any suggestions for a night out,
What is Dixie stampede!!

Hi
another one to think about that your children might enjoy is the Magic Comedy Dinner Show at Wonderworks.
Shows are twice nightly and feature, magic/comedy show, unlimited pizza, beer, wine and soda - following the show you get entrance to Wonderworks where the children (and adults) can enjoy the attractions such as build and ride your own rollercoaster, experience a hurricane, flight simulators, lie on a bed of nails etc.
Our children who are aged 9 and 13 really enjoyed their time at Wonderworks.

We had never tried a dinner show until our last trip in February as we had MIL with us we decided to try the Arabian Nights show for a different night out. Actually pleasantly suprised. Our children who were 5, 9 and 12 at that time really enjoyed the show. The food was deinitely average but drinks were plentiful:D Our server couldn't have been more helpful. Given the bigger girls extra tenders too. I think you have to remember that the price for all of that is very reasonable, around £15 per adult and £12 per child. As in everything you do get what you pay for:D and weighing that all up I would go again:D

Your 18 year old might not be too impressed as he won't get to celebrate his birthday over there with an alcoholic beverage!! I know mine wasn't! Any bars/restaurants we've been in have been very strict about not serving under 21's .
I haven't done a dinner show as I always hear that the food isn't so good. I would suggest to have a nice dinner out at your favorite restaurant and go see "La Nouba" by Cirque Du Soleil. We did this last trip and it was out of this world!!

The Cirque Du Soliel is second to none, the show is just fantastic. I would have a meal somewhere then go here.
One thing to remember is if any of your party have any breathing or chest problems the dinner shows which include animals can cause problems. My youngest who was three at the time, and doesn't normally suffer with chest problems coughed from the minute we were seated, we had to leave Dixie Stampede early as she was getting distressed.

We saw the Dixie Stampede last September for the first time and loved it!
We went back again in December with Diane's Parents and it was the Christmas show!
Thoroughly enjoyed both visits! Well worth it!
Like many we did Arabian Nights at Easter and our girls aged 10 and 12 at the time really enjoyed it. We paid for the VIP package and they loved meeting the horses (and they are not 'into' horses either). Food was ok too.
Cirque du Soliel is excellent and we are all HUGE fans but for us it's in a different class from the dinner show such as Dixie Stampede, Pirates, Medieval Times etc. Cirque du Soleil is a fantastic production costing more in its own right...and well worth a visit.
