Other than this forum. My daughter mentioned to me last night about two TV channels where viewers bid for items. They are 'Bid TV ' and
'Price Drop '. I asked her to find them for me on the TV and have been spellbound since. The goods start off at a really high price, and then begin to drop dramatically. Even if you take a chance, and bid high at the beginning, you only pay whatever the final bid has become. For example there was a ladies Elle watch in a lovely red presentation 'purse' which can be used also, on earlier, the start price was £109 I think, when it dropped to £20 I phoned up for one, the price eventually went down to £13, so that is what I pay. I am thrilled to bits. I must get a grip though, no housework done yet. Chloe.

I bought an 18ct gold, 1 and 1/2 ct Diamond Bracelet off there for Kaye(Call me a cheapskate), was originally over £600 and i got it for £142. Kaye got me a £350 Mountain bike for £120. You get some naff stuff on there but the majority i would say is all good :D Great for xmas pressies :D

I've looked at these channels, and assumed that they make up their money by the amounts they charge you for the call. Am I barking up the wrong tree, or is the phone charge a one off or per minute, and do you have to stay on the phone until the end of the auction or can you just quickly call register your intent to buy and then hang up ?

My husband often gets things from here.

A few weeks ago he told me that he saw a nice present for me. I was thinking a watch, a ring or maybe a bracelet[msnsmile2]

No, it turned out to be a set of saucepans[msneek]

Good job he never phoned, you can guess what I would have done with them and him[msnwink]

Chloe, it was only OV that weaned me off my QVC shopping Channel addiction. John and Roger have saved me thousands!![msnsmile2]
I must admit to peaking at channel 630 quite a bit recently, all in the interests of Christmas shopping you understand[msnwink] The credit card has taken a bit of a hammering[msnsad]

Chris and Peter, it only takes seconds........ you simply dial the number on the top of the screen, then when it is picked up, dial one, and then you are registered as a buyer, then THEY call you back some time later ( about 2 hrs. for me this am. ) to take your details. So I don't think they make up their money through the calls. Of course, there is nothing to say that the original price is realistic. But there certainly do seem to be some bargains to be had. Chloe

There original price has to be real or they would be closed down by the ITC and the ASA. You can bypass the call charges by registering and buying using their Websites :D

You people need to grow up and smell the coffee. How sad are you lot buying stuff from TV shopping channels?

Hah, suckers the lot of you. I just can't believe you could fall for an old line like the ones they hook you with on those channels.

I was only pointing this out to Mrs. Macka last week while she was up the garden. I was in the house at the time, I contacted her with our handy 6 channel walkie talkie radios. Unfortunately I couldn't hear her properly as I was doing a bit of grinding with my "neverending grindomatic grinding wheel with attachment for cordless drill. (which by the way, wore out):D

I haven't a clue how much they should be so I can't say if it was a bargain or not, but I watched the demo and it seemed to do everything he would need, plus there were European maps, handy as he works and travels abroad.
I never know what to buy him and this was on 3 monthly payments so I went for it!!![msneek]

Thanks Chloe :)

I must admit I find this channel a bit scary ... bit too manic for me, but I have had some excellent bargains from QVC in my time.

Well, I have to admit that I have now had a look at these channels - I didn't know they existed until I read it here - but I am still not sure how it works. What makes the prices drop? Do they drop automatically or is it because people are phoning to buy one of the items? If more people phone, does the price drop more quickly? When does the price stop dropping?

Perhaps if I had watched it for longer, I would have had my questions answered, but I didn't want to risk feeling that I had to buy something!

Emm I am not an expert (yet) but if seems to me that if things are moving slowly the price goes down bit by bit. You just decide yourself at what point you want to phone up and place an order. At that point you do not speak to anyone, it is automated, you simply dial the number at the top of the screen, and when the recording comes on, hit number one on your phone, that places your order. If it is your first order they then call you back later, and take your details, and you select a four digit code number for future reference. Then if you make any more calls for other items you just tap in your four digit number on the phone, and they have your details from last time, so do not need to call. I received my £13 watch today, and have been wearing it. Yesterday, I ordered a Catherine Hamnet watch, reduced from £100 and something, again to £13. It looks lovely, and it for one of my daughters stockings on Christmas morning. Chloe
