Auckland Museum/Auckland Domain
This museum is located on the stunning Auckland Domain which provides a great place for a picnic. The Auckland Museum has an outstanding display of Maori artefacts and culture. The Manaia show consists of a welcome dance, poi dance, stick game, weaponry display and a haka. This is followed by an introduction to the Maori court which houses the country’s finest collection of Maori Taonga, which translates as treasures. The Maori cultural performances happen every day and last for about 20 minutes. They are followed by a guided tour of the Maori and Pacific Galleries.
Kelly Tarlton’s Underworld & Antarctic Encounter
This is a unique aquarium housed in old storm water holding tanks. An acrylic tunnel runs through the whole aquarium and has a moving footpath. They use this to try and re-create the feeling of scuba diving around the New Zealand coast.
