For those who love the sea and enjoy water sports the Daytona Beach area is a must do on any holiday.
Whilst my Mother likes to sit on the beach and enjoy the sun the rest of the family go and enjoy the many activities Daytona has to offer,
For those who want to try kayaking they will find daily kayak tours at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. You can experience encounters with Manatees, have kayak instruction as well as going on nature and birding tours. There is plenty of choice for Kayak renting but in the past we have been to MMG Outdoors under the Seabreeze Bridge next door to Chez Paul Restaurant.
There are several places to rent jet skis but last time we went to Action Jet Ski and Pontoon rental. These are open everyday with longer opening hours in the summer. You will find a variety of Jet Skis, including ones that can seat up to three people, on which you can enjoy your ride in the sun. They also have a 20-ft. Deck Boat that seats up to eight adults in comfort or you can rent a Pontoon boat that will seat twelve. These can be rented for a family outing on the Intercoastal Waterway or a fishing expedition whichever you prefer.
Friends of ours went to “A Tiny Cruise Line” and really enjoyed their trip on 1890' s-style Launch seeing dolphins, jumping fish and wading birds.
If you fancy an Airboat Tour you can have one of these along the St. Johns River and through Lake Harney looking at wildlife. Often unless it is holiday period weekday tours have to be booked but you can usually just turn up Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
You can enjoy an Aqua Safari aboard a London double-decker bus! This is a charter fishing eco-tour, as well as pulling a drag net you cast nets and pull up crab traps. You really need to make advance reservations for this trip which also includes admission to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Marine Science Center.
I had never before heard of “Sight fishing” until I saw this at Daytona. Here you can get half-day, 3/4-day and full-day fishing expeditions with fishing license included and you fish in some of the area' s most scenic inshore waterways, including the Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon.
There is even a summer surf camp in Daytona which is open Monday to Friday. You can have private or group lessons and surfboards and wetsuits are provided.
Whatever water activity you want you are sure to find it at Daytona Beach.
