Visiting Puerto Vallarta - Part 6

Arriving in Puerto Vallarta continued:-

When you leave the customs area and try to get through the airport you have to pass through an enclosed timeshare area. This is a fairly short area and is only about 50 feet long and at least it is fairly wide. It has a lot of very official looking timeshares sales people on both sides trying to get your attention from behind a line on the ground. They may often trying to convince you that you must stop and give them your final hotel destination so they can offer you discounted transportation or free maps of the area.

The good news is that these people are not allowed to cross the line into the centre of the aisle. So unless you want to waste several hours of your time just ignore them. Whatever they say they are not from your resort/hotel, all these people are outside through the doors. So just carry on and wheel your bags through the centre of the area without looking sideways. If you happen to be at the edge of the area just say “no, gracias”.

There may be one reason to stop and that is if you happen to see a hostess who is often stationed near the exit point offering free Margaritas as a welcome to Puerto Vallarta.

Once you are through the sliding glass doors you are in the arrivals reception lobby where actual representatives from your resort or rental car agency may be holding a sign for any pre-arranged transport. Outside the arrivals reception lobby are the doors leading out of the airport building. The airport parking lot is across two lanes and then just beyond and behind the OXXO store. You might receive help with your luggage from one of the many airport porters that are waiting to help. If so it is important to remember that they only work for tips. So if you use their services make sure to tip them a reasonable amount.

If you travel independently to Puerto Vallarta there is no problem getting transport to your destination are there are three airport taxi companies just waiting for your business. In the airport reception lobby you just need to join a queue at one of two taxi booths. Here you can purchase a ticket to your destination and the two booths sell tickets for all three taxi companies. The rates for taxis are fixed rates by zones, which are set as a distance from the airport, and are non-negotiable.
