Top 10 things to do in Orlando for free!…….Part I

Everybody knows that you generally “get what you pay for” but this is not always the case, especially in Orlando. If you are like me, then you will love a bargain and if the bargain is not going to cost you a single dime………. well that’s even better! Below is a list of places we have visited, over seventeen years of vacationing in Orlando, that we have enjoyed absolutely free.

Peabody Duck March

Visit the Peabody Hotel on International Drive for a one of a kind experience. At 11am and 5pm (arrive a little earlier so you have time to park up and make your way inside to the hotel’s lobby) the red carpet will be rolled out for the hotel’s resident ducks. Their home for the day is the water fountain, inside the lobby, where they will remain until it is time for them to return to their penthouse suite on the top floor of the hotel. This really is quite a spectacle and certainly a talking point when you return home!

Lakeridge Winery and Vineyards

If you have an hour or so to spare, and can leave the kids with grandparents or other family members, pop along to the Lakeridge Winery and Vineyards in nearby Clermont for a wine tasting session. Tours take place from 10am to 5pm on Mondays to Saturdays and from 11am to 5pm on Sundays. This can be a very enjoyable experience, but make sure your driver is a teetotaller!

Disney’s Boardwalk

Every night at the Boardwalk you can enjoy free entertainment; live music, magicians and jugglers to name a few. Epcot’s Illuminations fireworks are also viewable from this area, without having to even enter the park. Take a leisurely ride on one of the boats that ferry passengers from Epcot’s entrance all the way to MGM studios, stopping at The Yacht and Beach Club resorts and also the Swan and Dolphin hotels.

Morse Museum

Just north of Orlando in Winter Park, about a forty-minute drive away, is the Morse Museum. Free admittance is every Friday from September to May between the hours of 4 and 8pm. View paintings by American artists, ceramics and Tiffany jewellery. The museum holds the most comprehensive collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s works in the world.

Sky Venture

Although this Skydiving attraction is free to watch you may find yourself deciding to “have a go” yourself, in which case it could cost you anything from around $45 to $200 depending on which package you choose. Situated in the middle of International Drive is a huge blue and yellow tower where you can watch the skydivers in action. This is huge fun to watch!
