Things to do in Clearwater

If you visit Clearwater on the Gulf Coast you will be amazed at the amount of things to do. Clearwater is about an hour and a halves drive from Orlando along the I4. When you initially get there you may want to go to the Visitor Information Center which is situated at 333 C, South Gulfview Blvd. on Clearwater Beach. Here you can pick up maps, schedules, discount coupons as well as free postcards and brochures.



When we go to new places we usually start by going on the local trolley bus to get an idea of where everything is situated. At Clearwater you can “Ride the Jolley Trolley” which stops every 30-35 minutes at routes along the beach, Island Estates and Sand Key, The cost of each trip is quite reasonable at $2. 00. Seniors $1. 00 and children under 3 are free.



If you like tennis you can go to the tennis courts and either have a lesson or just play a game.



Whether you want to stroll or jog along the beach Clearwater Beach has a three mile stretch of white sandy beaches. This is lined with palm trees, luxury hotels and condominiums. All beaches are public and can be accessed from almost anywhere. It is much cooler to walk later in the day and then you will also experience the famous Gulf sunset and sometimes you can also spot dolphins playing in the sea.



For the fishermen amongst you go to the docks of the Clearwater Marina. A license is not needed to fish when using one of the charter fishing boats. As well as half or full day Party boat trips you can also do flat fishing.



If you enjoy birds visit the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary which is a refuge for as many as 500 injured, recuperating, and permanently crippled land and sea birds: brown pelicans, cormorants, white herons and various birds of prey. This sanctuary is famous throughout the world.



You can see rescued sea turtles and otters at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium which is also home to ' Winter' the world famous dolphin who lost her tail due to an accident and now learns to swim with a prosthetic tail! You will find jet skis and parasail flights available up and down the beach and at the Marina.



If you want to learn to sail or charter a sailboat go to the Clearwater Community Sailing Center which is located on Sand Key.



If you are in Clearwater on Wednesdays between November and April from 8. 00am and 1. 00pm visit the Old-fashioned Farmers Market on Cleveland Street, here you can find produce, flowers, baked goods, arts, crafts, and entertainment.



You can “Travel the Pinellas Trail “. You enjoy a day of biking, skating, running or walking on the beautiful Pinellas Trail however you are not allowed to travel in a motorized vehicle.



All the family can enjoy Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise. You sail away into a fantasy world of swashbucklers and pirates aboard the Pirate’s Ransom. There are usually sightings of playful dolphins, you get your face painted and hear the story of the legend of Captain Memo the Pirate on this two hour cruise.
