If you have started reading this without first reading the set of articles “Tallinn – an overview” then I would recommend that you stop and read those articles first. They cover a lot of the general information that is not repeated here.
If you are looking for an in-depth look around the old town then you are in the right place. Despite the title, I have also looked at a few of the major attractions that are within a short distance of the Old Town and that are in my opinion worth a visit.
Although it has been mentioned before I will repeat it here as if you plan to do any in depth exploring in Tallinn it is essential as it will save you a lot of money on entrance fees. This is a Tallinn Card.
You can experience the whole city with this all in one sightseeing card. You have a choice of either the Tallinn Card or the Tallinn Card PLUS which gives you more than 80 free offers, discounts and gifts.
Tallinn Card:
Adult card and reduced child card for 24, 48 and 72 hours.
FREE travel on the public transport.
FREE admission to over 40 museums and sights.
34 exclusive discount offers.
Free Tallinn Card Map.
Tallinn Card PLUS: - All the Tallinn Card offers plus FREE rides on the Tallinn City Tour hop-on hop-off buses
Where do you get a Tallinn Card?
You can buy your mobile Tallinn Card from the on line shop before you go at the Visit Tallinn web site.
You can then either print out the ticket or show it on your mobile phone. It’s best to plan your trip using the Tallinn Card website tallinncard. ee or the info map you can obtain by showing the ticket at the Port of Tallinn, Tallinn Airport, Tallinn Bus Station or Tallinn Tourist Information Centre.
Your Tallinn Card is activated the first time it is used, either at an attraction or on public transport.
To use the card just show it to the ticket seller or tour bus driver, who then registers the card.
On public transport, validate your ride at the start of each journey by presenting the QR code on your mobile Tallinn Card to the orange card reader by the front door of the vehicle.
To get discounts or gifts at restaurants, shops, etc, show your card at the beginning of your visit.
The Tallinn Card also gives you priority admission at the Tallinn TV Tower, Tallinn Zoo and the Estonian Open Air Museum. All of which can be quite busy in summer so saving time by skipping the queue can be a big plus.
A child is classed as being aged 0-17 and with an adult card you can incl two children under 7 for free.
