General Information to make a longer stay easier.
Estonia uses the euro and you will find ATMs, which are sometimes marked Otto, at many locations around Tallinn. Estonia is one hour ahead of continental Europe, which means it’s generally seven to ten hours ahead of the East and West Coasts of the United States.
In case of a medical emergency you dial 112 and for the police, you dial 110. Estonian phone numbers are seven or eight digits and have no area codes. Numbers that are in Tallinn begin with 6 and mobile phones, which are more expensive to call begin with 5. If you are planning your trip and are calling from outside Estonia then you will first have to dial the country code which is 372.
Internet Access is fairly easy to find here, almost every hotel offers free Wi-Fi, and some even have a computer for guests to use. Public Wi-Fi is easy to find around Tallinn just look for the free “Tallinn WiFi” network which will cover most areas that you want to go. The main tourist information centre has one terminal where you can briefly check your email for free.
If you are on an extended trip and want some laundry done then the Viru Keskus mall has a Top Clean laundry drop-off service downstairs. It is open Mon to Fri from 8:00-20:00 and on Sat 10:00-20:00.
Estravel, at the corner of Suur-Karja and Müürivähe, is handy for making travel arrangements and also sells boat tickets with no extra fee but they are only open Mon to Fri from 9:00-18:00.
If you want to rent a bike one of the best places would be City Bike which is at the north end of the Old Town near the ferry terminals. They charge €10 for 6 hours, €13 for 24 hours for normal bikes. If you want an electric bike then they charge €5 per hour, €20 for 6 hours, €25 for 24 hours. They also do bike tours which I will go into later.
You will probably not need parking but if you do the Port of Tallinn has a cheap area by D-Terminal which charges €5/day. In Old Town parking is very expensive but you could try parking in the lot underneath Freedom Square at the southern tip of the Old Town, a short walk from the Town Hall Square and charges €3/hour.
