Everyone knows that Florida is famous for its cowboys and cattle ranching. But, as well as cowboys, Florida is known for it's great oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes - you'll have seen Florida orange juice in most supermarkets but you can now see them on the trees and even pick them for yourself!
We found this by 'accident' but it's a good place to get really fresh fruit and try some samples!
If you want to learn about citrus trees or fruit, this is definitely the place!
Do you fancy the idea of your own freshly squeesed juice drink - how about orange at breakfast time (or any time, for that matter)? Not only does it taste great but it's really good for you with vitamins, like loads of vitamin C.
Making smoothies? These fruits are ideal for making into smoothies which are delicious. Just peel them and put them into the blender with, perhaps, a frozen banana and some ice - mmmm, yummy!
Or how about some fruit on your breakfast cereal or pancakes? You can easily get your 5 portions of fruit or vegetables into your kids with these fresh fruits, straight from the trees!
They have a wonderful selection of jams (jellies) that you can try out for yourself. Buy a few post and bring them home for your friends as souvenirs as they're pretty unusual and special. Try some with your toast or bread in Florida and it's not mass produced, it's all home made.
Depending on the season, you can even pick your own fruit or get pre-picked fruit with free samples of fruit, juice and jam (jelly) and you can do a free self guided grove tour or book their buggy tour of the 2500 acre citrus and cattle ranch.
The buggy tour is in a covered truck with seating and huge wheels so you're high up and can get a good view. The driver/guide is on hand to point interesting stuff out to you too.
There are also swamp buggy tours available and both offer an opportunity to see alligators, rare birds and wildlife. In other words, the 'real' Florida!
