Perkins food is definitely homestyle and none the worse for that. However, if you want something a tad more sophisticated, then do as we did for a recent dinner and look at the Seafood menu.
On the menu for our dinner was Captains Catch with jumbo shrimp, clam strips, breaded fish fillets with onion rings and a small salad. My favourite sort of meal with lots of different flavours on the plate.
One of our party always opts for salmon and here it is served with an apricot teriyaki glaze. A marriage made in heaven!
The other offering was Jumbo Shrimp Dinner with around
half a dozen large shrimp with a seafood sauce.
All of these meals come with your choice of 2 sides from a large choice. Mac and Cheese, baked potato, mashed potato, salad, broccoli, spinach, herby rice, fries, corn or mixed veg. You get a freshly baked dinner roll as a matter of course.
Our restaurant was featuring Shrimpossibly Divine all shrimp menu.
Shrimp Sampler with shrimp cooked 3 different ways
Blackened Shrimp and Tilapia served with angel hair pasta and lemon butter sauce.
Crispy Shrimp Fries with a spicy mango dressing.
Island Shrimp Fry with peppers, pineapple and teriyaki sauce.
Baja Shrimp Scramble just what it says.
Shrimp and Asigo Omelette with onions, tomatoes, all in a cheese sauce. This comes with pancakes and a muffin.
We had decided to forgo a starter to leave room for a dessert. Had we opted for a starter they have a good selection of soups, shrimp dishes and popular things like fried onion rings.
It was pies all the way when we saw the dessert menu.
The Peanut Butter Pie was decadent with a topping of Reeces Pieces and the Coconut Pie was equally delicious and a lot lighter.
I always go for a fruit pie and dithered over lemon meringue, Home Style Apple and no sugar . All were all rejected in favour of a slice of Caramel Apple with its topping of crumble and icing.
Where a dessert contains cream it is always promised to be fresh cream and not that rather ersatz version we are often disappointed with.
Perkins have their famous bottomless pots of coffee or tea so we lingered a while over several cups. If caffeine disturbs your sleep, then request de caf coffee which they serve without fuss.
