Since we purchased our house in Poinciana, both our daughters decided to get married there.
My youngest daughter got married 3 years ago and wanted the whistles and bells. She had the full blown wedding dress with millions of beads and a long trail. It was beautiful but not really the sort of dress for the Florida weather. We took advice from other people and organised a coordinator who we thought should have made our part easier, but unfortunately they were so laid back about everything they forgot to update keep us on how things were progressing. I constantly emailed them and called them, in the end I chased the companies direct for information!
The wedding day itself was a lovely day and everything went to plan – what plan!
We are lucky enough to have made some lovely American friends since owning our house and their knowledge was extremely helpful.
The day before the wedding I was still chasing for information re the car arrival time and where and when would the Photographer arrive. I was told that I was a nuisance. Needless to say, I apologised for requiring this rather vital information.
We had privately booked a disco and a BBQ to come to our house for the evening. Not only did they turn up as arranged, but the food was excellent and they also cleared up and took away all the rubbish – magic.
Our first wedding finished and everyone was happy.
My eldest daughter married in March of this year and we booked almost everything in one area and without the use of a coordinator. She had a lovely dress, which we had purchased in the Florida Mall while my husband and her husband to be sat in the Ale House watching about 20 screens of American football.
By the way…. The Ale House is great, and within walking distance of the Mall – so everyone is happy.
We had been to Florida the November previous and we had booked the cars, minister and music, photographer, hire suits, cake, disco etc. On arrival back in the UK we checked it out with our daughter and Son- in- Law to be and then followed up their requests by email.
I am very happy to say that it all went to plan and we knew exactly who was arriving, at what time they were due.
We organized a meal at one of the local restaurants The Roadhouse Grill on the 192. (This is a favorite with my family). They were extremely helpful.
They set the tables exactly to plan, laid our table cloths, name cards, balloons, gift and cameras. We had a lovely meal, everyone chose what they wanted to eat and it was served hot and all at the same time. Fantastic. We could not fault the girls who served us and the effort involved.
The only thing we got charged was for the food and wine and the normal tip – no cover charge no rental charge no extras. We did leave a few dollars extra for their as we thought the service etc wonderful.
After this we went home and had a disco which my American friends helped us to find and buffet which my brilliant sister arranged.
So if anyone would like any advise on weddings, I feel like I have been there, seen it and got the t shirt.
Fortunately I only have 2 daughters!
