Old Town is a fascinating place for a visit. It is situated on Highway 192 just past Holiday Trail, at marker 9.
It is open 365 days a year, from 10am to 11pm, and the rides are open later during the summer season. It is free to park and enter.
There are about 75 shops to peruse, everything from the usual T-shirt shops to a Tattoo parlour, to a haunted house. It is an eclectic mix of the odd ball and the old fashioned. The General Store sells lots of Americana like Coca Cola and Budweiser clothes and home wares.
You can choose a pearl, still in its shell and they will open the clam, clean the pearl and offer to mount it in a chain or other piece for you. Or you can just take the pearl home with you.
There are Christmas stores, hand made candles to order, a movie character shop and even a magic shop to thrill your friends with your David Copperfield artistry.
There really is something for everyone and it is a very pleasant and enjoyable way to spend a half day or longer.
If you’re hungry then your appetite can be satisfied. Flippers is named as one of the best places to get Pizza in the area. Damon’s Grill is a sport themed restaurant serving good food. If you fancy a cocktail then Tropical Breeze can offer food with an island flavour and don’t forget the Daiquiri to go with dinner.
For thrills and spills there are plenty of rides to get shook up about. The most ardent thrill seekers will love the Slingshot and the Sky Coaster, but perhaps not straight after dinner. There are gentler rides for children along with a wax museum and a haunted house. If the artists from the haunted house are anything to go by then screams will be plentiful once inside the house….
Old Town is as famous for its Friday Night Cruise as it is for the shopping and rides. So popular has this become that it is worth getting there early to get a good parking place and somewhere to watch the action.
The Friday Cruise features anything up to 300 cars, all of them made between 1973 and 1987. The Saturday Night Cruise has been around for 14 years and is the largest weekly cruise in the USA. An average of 325 classic cars, hot rods, street rods, and antiques come to Old Town every Saturday night.
The cars start to arrive at 1:00pm, and the Cruise starts at 8:30pm. Musical accompaniment with 50's & 60's style rock-n-roll begins at 7:00pm on the Main Stage.
As if this wasn’t enough, there is now a bike cruise on a Thursday night as well.
We visit Old Town on every trip to Orlando and never tire of the place. Last year we went on Christmas Night and the whole place was jumping and full of life.
For a great day and night out and something a bit different to the Theme Parks, give it a try, you will love it too.
