Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo is one of the most charming spots of the entire lake. A magnificent manor house built in 1960, it was home to the European literary elite of times in the 19th century. Stendhal and Flaubert spent their holidays here more than once. The villa was a gift from the Princess of Prussia, round the middle of the century, to their daughter Carlotta. The building has been called like her ever since.
At the moment of is a popular resort thanks to the botanical marvels of its lush garden and the cultural and artistic events which are regularly held there.
POPRLEZZA
The lake Lugano on its Italian part, on the northeast side, can boast a pearl called Parlezza. It is located on Ceresio, another name for the lake, the small town is in a strategic position making it important for tourism. It is located on the wide plain of the valley covering from the foot of mount Galbiga to the foot of Mounts Val Carvagna and from Lake Como it is 20 minutes by car, in summer the lakes allow swimming and the relaxing part can mingle with the surrounding mountains which are scattered by excursion paths. From such natural richness, hotels, camping sites, restaurants and infrastructures were established and they make Porlezza ideal for tourism and visitors. Between water and mountains, it is possible to find a fascinating bike-pedestrian path on the abandoned railway line which connected the city on Lake Lugano to Mennagio on Lake Como, and it is an itinerary covering part of parco Val Sanagra and in part the Natural reserve Lake Piano covering 12 km. Look out for the little village of Cima, along the coastal path of Ceresio towards San Mamete, which was able to resist the passing of time, keeping a typical medieval structure and even today it is possible to admire the ruins of the wall and fortifications.
Stopping at Porlezza it is perfect time to look towards Val’ D’Intelvi and find out the caves of Rescia, a crown jewel and unique location in Lombardy.
