Formerly Gilbert/Robinson, Inc., this company was founded by famed Kansas City restaurateurs Joe Gilbert, his son Joseph Gilbert Jr., and Paul Robinson. After combining numerous years of operations knowledge and establishing a common vision, the first Houlihan's was opened on Country Club Plaza in Kansas City on Valentine's Day in 1972.
Now 23 years later they are still going strong and opening new branches of the famed Houlihan’s , and with this one in particular no expense has been spared in fitting out this establishment, marble graces the walls and floors and it has been extravagantly furnished to a standard of pure opulence.
The bathrooms are like something you might see in a magazine with marble ceiling to floor and built in television.
Located on the 192 it is very easy to find and if you do not wish to eat then you are still more than welcome to sit at their magnificent outdoor bar, octagon in shape, again opulent marble, and with plasma screens placed all around the top of the inside of the bar it is an extremely relaxing place to sit and unwind. But should you find yourself the slightest bit hungry then you have come to the right place.
The menu is vast and there is something for everyone, from pizza to salads to burgers, steaks and rib’s, seafood or even sandwiches but not as we know them, I can recommend the goat’s cheese bruschetta with basil salsa cruda ,this is just to die for and brought us back for more. I went for fillet steak with red bliss mashed potato and asparagus and was not disappointed , it came with a choice of Caesar salad, tossed simple greens or a bowl of baked potato soup, French onion soup or homemade soup of the day. I chose the baked potato soup and it was delicious. Specialties include classic jambalaya chicken, Cajun sausage, gulf shrimp Creole sauce and rice which also comes highly recommended. As does the sizzling fajitas served with red and green peppers, onions, sour cream, cheese lettuce salsa and four tortillas.
Unfortunately I did not have any room for desert (not surprisingly so) but they all looked scrummy and I am sure to leave room the next time.
The service was prompt and excellent, the atmosphere was relaxing, warm and friendly and I am sure that you will not be disappointed if you give it a go.
