Ghirardelli’s - Downtown Disney
If on a hot sunny afternoon in Florida you just want to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks but you still want to be immersed in the Disney Magic then take a visit to the Downtown Disney Market Place area. There are plenty of shops for you to look around and some wonderful places to grab a snack or a meal.
One of our particular favorites is Ghirardelli’s Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop. The ice creams, sundae’s, shakes and floats are just delicious. The shop is always busy but you can sit outside at one of the many tables to eat or drink their fantastic offerings.
There is a multitude of different flavors of ice cream on offer including: vanilla, butter pecan, strawberry cheesecake, chocolate chip dough cookie, cookies ‘n’ cream, coffee, mint chocolate chip and rocky road. Once you have chosen the flavour that you want then you need to decide to have it in a plain sugar cone, a homemade waffle cone or even a homemade waffle bowl. The next decision is around toppings, do you want just a chocolate topping or perhaps you are more adventurous and opt for crushed pineapple, blueberries or sliced strawberries? Finally do you have one scoop or two?
If you fancy something a little more substantial then take a look at the various sundae’s that are on offer including:
The Gold Rush - A Peanut Butter Hot Fudge Sundae which is made of vanilla ice cream with hot fudge and melted peanut butter, whipped cream, chopped almonds and a cherry.
The Domingo - Banana Hot Fudge Sundae, vanilla ice cream surrounded with fresh bananas, topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, chopped almonds and a cherry.
The Golden Gate - A Banana Split which is made from vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice creams with toppings of crushed pineapple, sliced strawberries and finished with fresh bananas, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, chopped almonds and a cherry.
The Strike It Rich - Butterscotch Hot Fudge Sundae which is butter pecan ice cream, smoothered in butterscotch and golden almond nuggetts, vanilla ice cream and then the normal whipped ceam and toppings.
Most of the sundaes are around the $9 mark (Sept 10) and are well worth the money epecially if two people are sharing.
If you would prefer just a drink then you can choose between various milk shakes or floats or even hot chocolate drinks. There is of course the normal offerings of various expresso drinks which are available hot, iced or frozen.
Whatever you decide to choose you won’t be disappointed and you will want to visit here at least once every holiday.
