The Stuttgart State Theatre is the largest theatre of its kind in Europe. The beautiful 100 year old building with its impressive columns and excellent acoustic. Is home to opera, drama, and ballet. Voted Opera house of the Year six times, it also attracts very famous ballet dancers from around the world and many famous visitors/celebrities and ballet enthusiasts. As this theatre is so well regarded by the World Ballet Art gallery. They book up to see the Stuttgart Ballet, famed for its polished productions in the tradition of the legendary John Cranko.

Southwest Germany’s most famous festivals must be the Christmas markets. During Christmas –the old castle -the church towers and the new castle are celebrating since 1962, the Stuttgarter Weihnachtsmarkt is one of Germany’s most famous and largest pre-Christmas events. In the old streets, the air is filled with the scent of pine branches and spices: cloves, vanilla and cinnamon. Some 200 wooden stalls, display wares, from hand –made Christmas decorations to angels.

Visiting Stuttgart is a beautiful experience, there are accommodations from 5 star hotels with spas to simple B& B’s .

In cities, such as Stuttgart, there is plenty for families. Everyone loves the Mercedes-Benz museum and the impressive Porsche museum. When Carl Benz patented the car in Manheim 1886 he changed the history of the world. What’s not to like about cars?

Stuttgart is the home city for both of these factory-museums, even today there are no names more famous than Porsche and Mercedes- Benz.

Mercedes Benz museum is a definitely a cool museum, it covers the 125 year story of automobile , starting on the top floor, the exhibition covers the social history as well as design –past, present and future. Among more than 160 vehicles are the Silver Arrow and the Millipede, the LP333 pickup truck as well as others.

The Porsche Museum is one of Germany’s newest museums; it is glamorous and accommodates more than 80 models. Racing designs, Sports cars, a paradise for Car enthusiasts. Each fan has a favourite, the legendary 356, 1948 roadster, 917/20 coupe and many, many more. You can spend a great day, have a scheduled tour of the factory and then end the interesting day with a meal to a nice gourmet restaurant by Porsche.

If you need more of this kind of adventure you can also visit the Auto& Technic Museum just outside Stuttgart, approx 1hr drive. Only here you can board both a Concorde and a Russian Tupolev TU-144. This museum accommodates 3, 000 exhibits, from 1950’s American dream cars to the Formula one collection and many more. I will write an article about this museum in the near future.
