Fantasy of Flight

Fantasy of flight for craft enthusiasts, just outside Plan city. Essentially a very large private collection of aircrafts from all eras of flight up to 1950’s and from all around the world.

A large array of Biplanes, Monoplanes, Autogyros and Seaplanes plus the odd Helicopter and Balloon capsule, are inspected at close quarters but the wonders of restoration and more than most people would wish to know about the technicalities of aircraft performance can be gleaned on the back lot tour, the restoration tour, the aircraft of the day demonstration, the pilot of which is available for questions before and after the display.

There is also chance to test your own piloting mettle with a simulated take off landing and dogfight above the Pacific in a World War II vintage corsair fighter and to soar for real as a passenger above the flatlands of Central Florida in an open cockpit Biplane.

The museum founder and owner Kermit Weeks was born in Salt Lake city, Utah July 1953. From a young boy, Kermit had a real fascination for aircrafts. He soon learned to fly at the age of 17 while still in High School. Then he began to build his first aircraft and flew it four years later. At the age of 20 he began compete in Aerobatic competitions and completed his Aeronautical Engineering degree in Miami at the University of Florida. At the age of 24 he was runner up at an Aerobatic competition of 61 competitors. He continued to win many awards for his skill in various countries around the world and twice became the United States Aerobatic Champion.

In the late 70’s Kermit interests included restoration and presentation of Antique aircrafts.

By the mid 80’s he began to operate a non profit making Air Museum as he expanded his collection.

As his aircraft collection increased and larger aircrafts were introduced he began acquiring a 300 acre site 20 miles South West of Disneyland.

The museum hangers today showcase the world’s largest privately held vintage aircraft collection furthermore most aircraft are fully airworthy and flown by Kermit.

His collection consists of over 60 vintage aircraft from a World War I Sopwith Camel to a giant Sunderland flying boat. His museum has been open for over 18years but unfortunately will be closing in April this year. Kermit announced has other plans for a new long term vision.

This will of course be interesting to see what that vision will be. . .
