Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede

We have always wanted to try one of the many dinner shows that Orlando has to offer. We finally decided on ‘Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Diner and Show’ as it sounded the most fun and lighthearted of them all.

We read about it on the leaflets and were all looking forward to seeing the Pig racing, Ostrich racing and Horse tricks, plus the meal sounded yummy too. The menu was for ‘ Mouth Watering Tender Whole Rotisserie Chicken, Hickory Smoked Barbecued Pork Loin, Original creamy Soup, Homemade Biscuit, Buttered corn on the cob, Baked Potato, Apple Turnover and to drink, Beer, Wine, Unlimited Pepsi, Tea and Coffee!

We arrived about 1 hour before our show time, I would recommend leaving at least an hour and half before your show time. We were ushered into this amazing barn (I’m sure you have all driven past it on the I4) and once inside we had a great family photo taken. The five of us stood against a backdrop of a western country town. We were given a number and told that we could collect our photo at the end. We then went though to a large hall with benches and a bar at the back. We all got ourselves and drink and some nuts and took a seat. We were treated to a very funny pre-show of singing, dancing and jokes. The cast were very good and the time flew by!

Once the pre-show was over, it was time for the main event! As we entered the arena we were each given a flag. We were the South side, the other side of the arena was the North! The lights went down and the show began.

Out came stunning horses, cast members in great costumes and there was a brief spiel about how we each had to stamp our feet and cheer on our own ‘sides’

There were some very clever parts to the show and a trick that I still can’t figure out how it was done! ! The pig racing was hilarious, as was the Ostrich racing!

Half way through the show they start to serve your dinner. The show continues as the staff walk past and deliver chickens, soup, biscuits drinks right to your plate. I must admit that sometimes I didn’t even notice the food had arrived as I was so engrossed in the show.

It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we all thought it was a great night out. You have to go with an open mind and your tongue firmly in your cheek, but if you do this, you will bound to have a great time.

We are definitely going to go and do it again – watch this space for report 2!
