Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf – Winter Course

The tale behind this wonderful miniature golf is that on a moonlit Christmas Eve Santa Claus found the ideal spot for a vacation for both himself and Mrs Claus. It turned out to be Blizzard Beach. In no time at all Santa and Mrs Claus had moved their trailer down to Florida together with their reindeer and the elves. The elves were divided into whether to build a snow or sand miniature golf course so they decided to build both.

Our first visit was of a lovely August evening and we decided to tackle the Winter Course. There were the four of us, which is the maximum number in any one group that is allowed to play. Everyone was given a putter and then we had to decide the colour of the golf ball we wanted, blue and green for the boys and pink and purple for the girls.

You are given a scorecard to record how well you all do or not as the case may be.

The winter course resembles a snow-covered wonderland with snow castles and forts, snowdrifts, and the like. To add further to the atmosphere Christmas Carol sound tracks are played.

Each hole is very different in with excellent themes throughout. Each hole is named together with somewhat cryptic instructions for example:

Hole 2 – ‘Gone Fishin’ – Aim for the fish hole; get it right, you’ll make him think he got a bite. With this hole you start off by having to cross a bridge but be careful the fish in the river below squirt water at you. The hole is located by a small igloo where it appears someone has been fishing earlier in the day, having left their picnic basket and fishing rod in place.

Hole 7 – is aptly named ‘ Unidentified Flying Santa’ – Santa slid while it was snowing but when the snow stopped he kept going. The hole itself is right in front of a great mound of snow and all you can see is Santa’s boots coming out of the top.

Hole 9 – Is a wonderful castle built out of snow. Aptly named ‘Castle a la Moat’ which gives you a clue to what you need to do. You have to wait for the drawbridge to lower and then hit the ball hard and then miraculously your ball appears right by the hole on the lower level. If you hit the ball at the wrong time then your ball will end up in the moat and then it is more difficult to reach the hole.

Hole 16 – ‘ The Flippers were hung by the chimney with care’ – This hole depicts are very large fireplace with 4 blue flippers being hung up instead of the traditional stockings. You can then just see Santa’s legs and feet as he is trying to climb back up the chimney. You have to putt your ball through the hole while Santa’s starts to climb.

Hole 17 – Sees you putting your ball through various presents that are located in your way and underneath a jack in the box. Once you get your ball in the hole Mickey pops up out of the jack in the box.

Hole 18 – This is the easiest hole of all and once your ball enters the hole then you get a very special message from Santa himself.

The par for the course is 56 and we all managed to come in under par with a 54, 53 a 45 and even a 42. Between us we also managed to get 8 holes in one.
