Celebration Town Tavern (6)

On a recent visit to Celebration we decided to eat out and chose Celebration Town Tavern, a recreation of an authentic New England Tavern. It is a mixture of ‘locals bar’ where locals gather to watch football on the big screen, family tavern and separate special occasion restaurant, ‘The Bostonian’. We would have had to wait around an hour for a table inside, so settled on outside, under the canopy and very pleasant it was too, sipping a cold beer under the fans.

We ordered our appetizers and it was here that we made our first mistake! We ordered one portion per person and could not believe the size of them when they were served! Just one portion of ‘Kelly’s Landing Famous Onion Rings’ would have served all eight of us not just Mum! But we couldn’t help her out, delicious & fresh though they were we had to plough our way through a variety of other dishes - fried mozzarella, chicken on a stick with Mandarin dipping sauce, crabcakes and the most succulent Calamari I have ever tasted. We all left some though, mindful of the fact that there was still the main course to come!

We saw some fabulous looking burgers & sandwiches being served and judging by the size of them we guessed we were not going to be served nouvelle cuisine style portions and this was certainly the case! I have never seen anything like it ‘Baby’ back ribs was a definite understatement as they not only fell off the bone as promised, but fell off each side of a very large plate! The seafood and fish is all flown in from New England – delicious! Of course a tavern has to have steak and there were several to chose from which got a definite ‘thumbs up’ from our meat eaters and the Cape Cobb salad was to die for! A huge plate of lobster, bacon, egg, blue cheese, avocado & just every type of salad you can imagine.

On reflection, we should have ordered just one or two appetizers between us, which would have been more than enough with a main course each. This being Florida of course, it was no problem though to ask for a ‘take out box’ – in fact several boxes. There was enough left over to feed us all again the following evening!! We certainly didn’t chose the cheapest items on the menu – for example ribs are around $17 and salads $13 with appetizers on average around $5, but we could easily have enjoyed one of the sandwiches which are upwards of $7 and served with fries, pickles & salad.

Celebration Town Tavern has definitely become one of our ‘must do’s’ now for our next holiday.
