Amsterdam: An overview - Part 10

DINING

I have had plenty of time to try out a wide variety of places to eat in Amsterdam. So whether you are just looking for a quick snack, a light lunch or a romantic multi course dinner then you will find that Amsterdam can offer you all of that and more. It has grand cafés, historical bars and Michelin stared restaurants it also seems to have some of the best seasonal produce available. So listed below are just a few of them that we have tried or have had recommend to us by friends. I have not gone into great detail as this is not what this overview is all about and unless I mention otherwise all these places are in central Amsterdam.

Kitchen & Bar Van Rijn

Kitchen & Bar Van Rijn is located on the Rembrandtplein and is supposed to be inspired by the masterpieces of Rembrandt van Rijn. It has a cosmopolitan feel with an open kitchen and here you can enjoy authentic Dutch food for both lunch and dinner. At weekends there is often live music and a DJ. It offers a great place for a good lunch or dinner or you can just have a cup of coffee on the terrace and enjoy the view. It is located at Rembrandtplein 17

Baut

This was a former Citroen dealership and this is noticeable as it can be a bit a bit cooler in the winter. However it provides a nice theme and has been well converted by someone keen on detail as you will see from the vintage DS that is parked inside. Bar restaurant BAUT is getting a reputation as one of the best spots in town. The chef Michiel van der Eerde and his staff serve dishes from all over the world. You can find this place in Amsterdam East at Wibautstraat 125

Ciel Bleu

This is a very much more upscale experience and is the type of restaurant where the food and personal service are both superb. There are two chefs Onno Kokmeijer and ArjanSpeelman and they tempt you with original dishes which have been inspired by classic French cuisine. Almost as good as the food is the view, while you eat you can take in a panoramic view of Amsterdam. As you would expect there are range of innovative wines to complement the food. The restaurant is the holder of two Michelin stars and is located on the 23rd floor of Hotel Okura at Ferdinand Bolstraat 333
