Does anyone know of a good hairdresser that they can recommend? We are here for the summer and my roots are desperately need 'retouching'!!!! so a salon that is good at colouring would be great.
Many thanks everyone

Sheila,
It is a difficult one, I have had my hair trimmed and curled on 3 or 4 ocassions in Walmart hairdressers but I would not say that was the best place to have colour done. It will be a case of hit and miss I think. I am very light blond and I buy a briliant product in Walmart that you only have to leave on for 10 minutes (I leave for about 20 as I like it light), honestly and it works. I am down to my last box but can have a look tonight. Something like L'Oreal High Definition in a red box. Not sure if they sell it in the UK yet as I live in Europe.
I am going back out in 15 days so shall definately stock up. Do you never do your own colour? I used to go to Tony and Guy and pay a fortune and on at least 3 ocassions they mucked it up and I shall never go back as last trip there I had a ring of colour around my head and they had to cut my hair to get rid of it and not the way I wanted it, never mentioned it to me they must have thought I was blinkin blind! I make a better job myself! Thats what happens when you Franchise!!!!!!!!

Hello Sheila; could you give us a hint of where here is, it will help home in on the best salon...
Well I would be cautious with colouring, I had highlights done twice at the same hairdresser (at Orange Lakes) and subtle they weren't, although have to say they looked quite good!
Now I just grit my teeth and have my highlights done at Haringtons and pay a fortune. Actually I say highlights, mine are a mixture of high and low as I have blonde, gold and red put in it!
Hi Everyone
How stuuuuuuupid of me not to say that I am stateside. Here for the entire summer and loving every minute. That was until i read the horror stories about the hairdressers over here. To think I almost went to Tony and Guy because it was a name i recognise from home. Phew. I would love to do my own hair but its naturally dark, dark brown and it really needs professional colouring. I have to say I like my highlights to be seriously blonde so subtle is not a problem. Now I don't know where to go. Never heard of Haringtons, where is that?
Appreciate all your advice, keep it coming.

I have had my hair done several times in Florida Mall and I have to say the hairdressers there are young, hip and can't be beat.
Sheila,
The Tony and Guy might be ok where you are. I used to pay £96 to get my hair done in there and was never entirely satisfied on the last couple of trips. One was in Piccadilly and the other Chester, do not know why I kept going back really. My natural colour is Mousey brown and I had highlights for many a year. About 10 years ago I had peroxide hair, now it is still very light but I do not bleach it just use a strong colour. Get it done professionally and then maybe once you have the colour you want then look at doing it yourself. I have been doing my own hair on and off for 20 years. Living abroad most of my life, I found it difficult to find hairdressers. Living in Asia was the worse as finding someone who could cut Western hair was difficult and boy did you have to pay!
Good luck with the search and let me know as I am always looking for a hairdresser when I am over. Like to get it washed and blowdried every couple of days as I cannot be bothered doing it myself since I grew it.

Sorry Sheila, when I mentioned Haringtons it was a roundabout way of saying I now have my hair done in the UK! (They have quite a few salons in the south-east and advertise regularly in Vogue, Glamour etc.)
I would think if you go to an up-market mall you should have no problems - or try asking some of the residents if you are going to be there a while.
Cor! and to think I pay £28 including tip and very pleased I am with the result too!
There must be some benefits for living ooop north!
