Being chosen to be the Grand Marshall in the MK parade is supposedly, purely a matter of right place, right time ~ although rather cunningly, Disney never tells you where those places are !

They have spotters out each day in the parks, and if they think you and your family fit the bill looks wise, they will approach you.

We have several cast member friends who work at MK, and even they couldn't help me get my parents in the Marshall's car before the parade on the day of their wedding anniversary.

Sorry to disappoint, but this one is a tough nut to crack !

    Sunlover is right,

Not that we wanted to be in the Marshalls car in the MK parade, we had a similar experience with the Disney monorail, we always saw people traveling in the front with the driver who always seemed to be family's, one day the wife and I are on the platform waiting for the monorail and we were asked if we wanted to travel up front, there were family's also on the platform but they did not get asked.

Maybe the platform attendant just felt sorry for us.... LOL, but it was a nice experience to see it from the drivers perspective, and guess what NO camera with us at the time. [][]

Re the monorail. If you want to ride upfront, there is a special area, next to the place the front stops, just stand in there and you will be in the front.
Sometimes there are other people there, just wait and you wlll get to ride with the driver.
We have been infront three times, our children love it, especially when you travel through the Hotel, is it the Continental or similar, the hole doesn't look large enough for the monorail and I always manage to get the children to "duck"

Up front on the monorail is great - kids get a business card sized certificate to say they did it to . However they limited it to 4 people when we went - hubby had to go in the normal carriage[msnsad]

when we were at disneyland in california, we were sat on the pavement about 11/2 hour b4 the parade was to start (new how busay florida parades are so we thought we would get a head start)a woman came up and asked us if we wanted to be in the parade, kids were not too impressed about goin, she said you get a gift and get to look behind the scenes. we still didnt bother and when we saw the people that had volunteered the kids were so glad as they all had tutu's on and were dancing like the hippos in the movie (cant remeber the name ). a bit of me wishes we had cause probably never get the oportunity again

I was talking to a lady at a boot fair on Sunday and she and her family got to go on one of the floats (they were apparently the first English family to go on it) a while back. They only got to go on it though because they had complained as a cast member had pushed their young son roughly and rudely out of the way when one of the characters were coming nearby. They also got a free one day pass to go back again.

My children were asked to join the parade, they danced along accompanied by Fairy God mother from Cinderella. They were sat at the kerbside by some stocks about 1 hour before the parade and the cast members were going along choosing the children randomly.

Another day after this while we were walking toward the Dumbo ride one morning we (all 4 of us)were also asked to join in the show on the stage at the front of the castle. We had to run on stage shaking pom poms while the compare said our names and where we were from.

Both events had that magic touch and we still talk about them even though this was our first visit back in 1997.

I think its just a question of being in the right place at the right time,so Good Luck!!
