Anyone out in Florida at the moment know anything about this storm. I have just watched the 10'o'clock news and weather in U.K and they gave a special but brief mention of it, but no real details.

Haven't heard anything myself-despite being married to an Alex-who is often full of hot air-lol!
This is the time of year for these phenomena-often they blow themselves out at sea-so let's hope that they don't make landfall!

Jane,
it only got named when it was well past florida, It's heading north north-east. Sunday and today were a bit cloudy and a bit of rain but no heavy downpours.
Is this the one that caused the launch of the probe to Mercury to be cancelled yesterday? The weather lady on the Beeb said it was cancelled due to cloud cover caused by the beginning of a hurricane that was heading up to the Carolinas. I see it managed to get off the ground okay today though.

just on the news in orlando !! alex!! is now the first hurricane but not likely to go on land...
Jeff,
if you were up and about at 2am like the strange people we are, waiting for the rocket launch, it was officially a hurricane at 2am.
The launch was impressive even though we are 50-odd miles away and there was light cloud.
And now another one heading towards Puerto Rico...will be watching that one!!
