    walking distance

Please help.......We are about to book a villa for the first time for next year and was wondering if anyone could advise us.We are after a community that has shops and restraunts within walking distance(for those nights when we fancy a few drinks with our meal)?
    All advice would be grateful.[msncool]
    many thanks

That all depends on how far away you call walking distance, Jinky!! For me, walking distance is literally just around the corner and anything more than a quarter of a mile, is definitely driving distance - particularly in the heat of Florida!!! The only place that I walk is around the theme parks.

If you want somewhere as near as possible to restaurants then pick one of the developments which is very close to highway 192. Do remember though that the developments are usually quite large, so even though the front entrance may be within a mile or half a mile of the restaurants, the actual home could be twice that distance!!

Remember that you can easily call a taxi to pick you up and then come back for you later, if all the drivers want to have a drink.

Happy hunting and have a great time.

Jinky you should have a look for villas on Southern Dunes. Just outside the community definitely walking distance (as we send our children on their own) is a 24 hour Walmart and Walgreens plus other supermarkets, bank, video hire, liquer store and several restaurants. On site if you would like a drink with your meal why not make use of the clubhouse bar and restaurant. Despite some people saying Southern Dunes is too far from Disney it has never taken us more than 20 minutes which we feel is a small price to pay for not always having to drive everywhere else.

I think you should put your requirements into all of the villa sites (links on the top of each forum page) and make an enquiry, having put in your requirements about walking distances, etc into the comments box. That way you'll get replies from only verified home owners with homes advertised on this website that can match your wish list. You need to make an enquiry on each site as they all have different owners.

I would agree with Carla, that most (not all) estates may feel a long way in the heat of the day but I know there are some which are just a pleasant 20min stroll in the evening. Certainly no more than the walk around world showcase in Epcot.
I am sure if you do a search you will find something Jinky.

Difficult one as nothing really is what I would class as walking distance in the US, unless you stay in a hotel say on I Drive or OBT. Then again I am a lazy so and so![}]

Welcome to the forum Jinky. If you are looking for a community that has on site restaurant and bar then Southern Dunes has this facilities. As Jill said there are also some Restaurants just outside the gate.

    Hi Jimmy,
Normally I would suggest Lake Berkley Resort (which has it's own clubhouse, pool, spa and natural lake also) or Bass Lake Road Estates which are close to many shops and restaurants and are within walking distance of the Walmart Supercenter on the US 192. There are however some heavy roadworks going on in that stretch of road so walking might not be adviseable at the moment. Not many people seem to "walk" in Kissimmee/ Orlando and - apart from the housing estates - footpaths are few and far between. We have often had a hard time walking along the main roads between shopping precincts due to lack of paths.(I think the US motorists think we Brits are a bit strange wanting to WALK!!!)
If you really don't mind walking a fair way I could suggest any of the subdivisions behind Splendid China (Rolling Hills/Indian Creek/ Emerald Island/ Oak island Cove etc.)Once you get to the 192 there are all sorts of shops and restaurants to keep you amused. It's
probably about a mile from the houses though! [msnsmile]
