For all the cable and satellite channels they have in the states, it always seems like the National news is "edited & sanitised" to a one sided point of view and the local news is often down to who found a twelve foot 'gator in his back yard (or whose back yard disappeared overnight into a big hole). The US Daily Mail appears to be edited in the same way 'cos when we get home half of the stories were missing. I guess they only select the ones that they think will appeal to the US readers?

I must admit, when we do to Florida the last thing on our minds is finding something Scottish. whether it be food or papers. When you are on holiday one of the nicest things is experiencing a different way of life... there is plenty of time to catch up when the bubble bursts and you are back home again!!!

We too don't miss anything british when we are abroad. It's actually the other way around. It's been 4 months now since our last holiday in Florida and we're still talking about the nice food, places we would like to see again and the nice weather.

I can understand that some people still look something british probably this what makes them feel comfortable when they're away from home.

Hi, I just found this site and have been reading the past week. I have never been to england or any other country for that matter. Why do the English love Florida so much? Is it for the weather? Just curious and I hope you don't mind me asking. I love Florida in the winter because I'm old and I do not love SNOW anymore. Yes, it is beautiful when everything is covered with snow, but I was born here in NH and when one gets my age your bones start to hurt. What kind of weather do you all have over there? I had a couple buy flowerer's at my place last week and they were sad that they had to go home to Germany this week. They have a summer place on the lake and come every year. They said that their weather is cold and rainy in the summer. thanks, ettarp

    Hi Ettarp

Welcome to the forum. In general a lot of british wants to move abroad, mainly for the good weather and Florida is one of the place to be because of the weather and diversity of things to do. We too would like to spend our winter in Florida later on when we retire because Britain in Winter is very cold and damp and you get short days, so not much you can do here in Britain during winter time. I know of some old people go to Spain and Portugal during winter to escape the cold weather but for us it will be Florida.

I have only once wanted something british whilst in Florida. It was during our first trip there about 15years ago. We had been to Church St Station and I over indulged on their cocktails. Boy did I pay for it the next morning. When I finally surfaced about lunchtime all I wanted to eat was a sausage roll or cornish pasty, about the only thing you cant get in Florida. Had a great idea[msnsmile2] We went to Epcot and found a Cornish pasty in the pub in England[msntongue][msntongue].
