a friend has asked me about problems he may encounter entering the US as he has a criminal record. i wasn't sure what the answer was but after checking here i don't think he is going to be too happy. However, can anyone tell me,do you have to get a visa every time you visit the US,, with the day out at the Embassy to look forward to, or do they last for a fixed period of time?

    thanks jr

If he's successful in getting a visa, you just get a B2 visitors' visa which lasts for ten years.

I have been looking into getting a visa and the forms don't look too bad until you come to the instructions for the photograph which seem exceptionally complicated. Has anyone here had their photo taken for a visa and was it easy to comply with the new requirements?

thanks for the info Blott. Spoke to said friend after reading this and it just confirmed what he had suspected. His intention was to look at properties on an arranged visit but is looking elsewhere.

Oh sorry, didn't mean to put him off! If it's a single offence from some time ago then most people get a visa without any problems.
