    Buying DVD's in the US

Now I've just had a thought (dangerous I know). I know that we work on PAL and the US work on NTSC so we can't exchange videos but does anyone know if DVD's are the same?

    Thanks

DVD's are region 1 for america, they only work here if you have a multi region DVD player
    or a chipped one.

Actually a lot of video players now play PAL and NTSC as standard

You're highly unlikely to be able to play a UK DVD on a US machine, unless you have an upgraded one in Florida BTW.

Almost all DVD players in the UK now play R1 DVDs without the slightest problem. What's more, you can quite legally buy R1 DVDs from a well known Jersey site for prices not much more than their USD equivalents and get them delivered for free within 4 working days. The films become available within a week or two of their release in the USA. I have done this for almost 4 years.

    Nostromo,

quite correct, Rosie my better half, is a film nut/buff, she gets most of our DVD's from the co you alluded to, also the bargain bucket in the local stores as well. I think we have almost replaced all our old VCR films with DVD's now.

I think most of the stand alone DVD players available today are either set for multi-region or programable for multi-region, so playing films purchased in another country is not too much of a problem. I think I am correct in saying that TV's with built-in DVD are region fixed and cannot be changed, at least the TV/DVD that I have cannot be modded.

Now some smart A*se is going to reply that they can... I just know it.
