    Taxi's / Roof Racks

My question is very similar to a previous one. We are going to Florida on Saturday, with a lot of luggage - ( stuff for the villa ). We have ordered a 4 door luxury car, but are concerned, that we may have trouble fitting everything in. Does anyone know if you can get a roof rack at the airport. Otherwise it will mean a taxi all the way from Sanford, which will be VERY expensive.

Depends which car rental company (some of the less well known ones may have them) but normally no roof racks available I'm afraid.

You really don't need loads of luggage... you just need casual stuff like shorts and T-shirts, underwear, any special personal items including any medication, a couple of pairs of shoes and a swim suit. All the rest you can buy cheaper in Florida!

If you're staying in a villa, you'll have a washer and dryer. The wash takes, at the most, 30 minutes and the dryer about the same - you can put stuff in the wash and have it on again within an hour!

Also, you'll want to take stuff you've purchased with you back home to the UK. If you can't fit in all the luggage going, how on earth will you manage coming back?

And, hey, have a great time!

Blott, many thanks for the advice, and prompt too ! The trouble is, we own the villa, and it is not clothes etc. that's the problem. It is all the things I have been buying for our home. I tend to buy little things here, when I see what I like, rather than waste precious 'holiday' time when I am there. Even doing it this way, we still spend masses of time in Home Depot and the like. I think we are just going to have to fork out for a taxi. Chloe

Why not 'upgrade' to a larger car like a 7-seater? You may find this convenient if you decide to do more shopping for your new villa in the US. You never know what you might decide you need after you have arrived.

Take a length of rope; stack it all in the boot and tie the lid down tight with the rope.
Just a thought how are you getting all this to the UK airport?

The rope idea came from when I arrived in Hong Kong with a number of very large suitcases; the taxi driver just loaded them all into the boot & tied the lid down with a couple of pieces of string. We had quite a long journey to Repulse Bay, on the way I noticed loads of taxis just the same. I asked him if he had lost any luggage, he said not yet! I’d take a couple of nice long pieces the blue polyester stuff you can get from B&Q; the builders use it… Just a thought, Dave.

Would it be possible to hire a 7 seater and then downgrade a day or so later[?]

That's also a possibility Ian.Although I think we are going to take a rope. Hope the police don't stop us though! Chloe

I don't think the police will be in the least interested Chloe as they don't appear to have similar laws to ours about carrying stuff in vehicles. We've seen the most incredibly dangerously loaded vehicles being driven around with impunity!
