    Dixons duty free

    Hi,
Does anyone knnow if its possible to check what Dixons Duty Free shop prices are (Gatwick) BEFORE we fly?
And is it possible to order anything to pick up duty free.

Also, last one, are the products, e.g. laptops, designed specifically for duty free shops, as I never recognise any specification/models from High Street stores

As far as I know the spec in duty free is the same as the high street, not sure if you can
check what the prices are beforehand.

The best thing for me is you can buy something and have it delivered to your home, have done
    this a few times before

Checked out a few boards and seems you cant pre-check the prices, but as has been found out by
a lot of people on here, a lot of stuff is now cheaper on the net.

Is there anything in particular that you are after ??

Just checked a few boards, stuff is normally 17.5% cheaper, but
that doesnt inculde the net, so as said the net can be cheaper

In the past we have phoned the Dixon shop at the airport and asked if they stock the item we want and what they are charging for it. We have then paid in advance by credit card and collected it when we passed through customs a you need to show your boarding card. What you must do is ring the correct shop. Dixons had and probably still do have shops in both north and south terminals and you can only purchase from the terminal you are flying from. We bought a digital camera and they very kindly charged the battery for us so it was ready to use as soon as we collected it.

I've found that the dixons 'duty free' prices are about the same as their high street sale prices. Like perfumes etc, cheaper to buy at a high street 'perfume shop' than the duty free shops. The only thing ever buy duty free now is cigarette's for the brother-in-law.
(I did buy him some Egyptian cleopatra local cigerette's once, he was so pleased, he wanted to give them away to everybody )

Thanks for all that. I was thinnking about laptops, but the net has, as you say, probably more variety and 'bargains'.
Its not an impulse buy thing.
Would be interested to know the phone numbers for Gatwick south DIxons though and I did not know you could have it delivered back home - good point.
it always seems that you actualy pay more in duty free. certianly for spirits etc as they have larger bottles. So in fact you dont actualy save money, which I thought was the point. I also feel that is the case with electricals etc i.e. the specs would be 'better' so you end up paying more because its a higher spec than needed again e.g. a same model cannot be found, only a higher spec one - again actually spending more. Thats why I wondered if you could find a spec you liked and get it in the duty free -to order.
thanks once again, forum is great.[8D]

Laptops are no cheaper in Duty Free!!

We looked for one and ended up buying one when we returned home.

Search the net first then you can check out the shops when you arrive and compare them.

Make sure that the charger is multi voltage or at least make sure you can buy one to work here. Usually you can buy a travel adapter for around $100 - There is one in Atlanta airport that I only saw last week. Works with ANY Laptop - Suitable for use on Planes and Cars etc
