    Drivers under 25

Does anyone know how easy it is for drivers under 25 to rent in Florida?
When our villa is finished our sons would both like to go with their girlfriends and other young couples. one is aged 23 and has been driving for 5 years, the younger one will be 21 and driving 3 years.
Anyone out there with the experience of young drivers renting?

I know that the insurance will be higher for under-25 drivers, which may mean that the Car-hire company might charge higher rates to cover the CDW bit. Also, some companies may not hire out 'sporty' cars to youngsters. We were asked if there was anyone under-25 driving in our group, but since there was not, we got no further information.

I am sure that drivers have to be aged 21 to drivein Florida and there is an additional $25 a day for those under 25. If I am wrong someone will correct me.

$25 per day extra for under-25's is the normal amount charged by car hire companies when I looked into this for someone (this is on top of all the usual insurances).

Just got back from Florida after two weeks with my girlfriend - we investigated every option to rent a car but as I'm 22 we didn't find anywhere that would not charge $25 a day extra. Beware of places that don't EXPLICITLY say they charge on their homepage as they often put it in later when you are ready to pay! Also, some places say $15, some $20, some $25. Thing is, the charge is payable locally so I was nervous of signing up to a rental company charging only $15 a day in case I ended paying more upon arrival.

The only thing I can think of is I thought I read in a Virgin catalogue that in their flydrives there is a "gold" package of car hire which includes all young driver charges along with all insurances.

Being in a villa is a problem I guess without a car, but I styaed on Universal Blvd in a hotel and between the trolley, Lynx buses and disney shuttles we were OK in the end.

Its a bit annoying the surcharge as I've been driving for 5 years now, but someone who is 25 can rent a car even if they only qualified when they were 24!! Also, don't Americans drive at 16? But what can you do?!

    Hi,

I went on vacation in January and found a company that dealt through Budget and did not charge the extra $25 per day.
Its just im not sure if I am allowed to put it on this site. If I am please let me know, otherwise I can DM it to people who want it.

    Hi there,

Could you DM me the details of the company for future reference? Would make going back in the next few years a real possibility! How can companies not charge it though with it being a Florida State Tax?

    Thanks!
