    Car hire - additional dirvers

Do the additional drivers have to be there at the time the car is hired. We are all arriving at different times on different flights. Can we add additional drivers over the phone or do they need to see the driving licence?

Yes - they need to also sign the rental agreement otherwise they are not insured.

    Hi

Whenever I have additional drivers, they need to be present at the time of collection, as they take all the details off the driving licence. There are several Alamo and Dollar offices situated around the 192, so you may be able to go and add the additional drivers at the offices.

You can always call in to the nearest office of the Rental car firm later(with the other drivers) and they will add them to the agreement and give you a print out of a new agreement. I do this with my brother when he comes out for a week. Find out the nearest office when you pick the car up.

When we went to Orlando this April, my brother-in-law was the agreed second driver. He was not with me in the car queue and I had to send my niece to summon him in a hurry when the Dollar agent insisted on seeing the second driver as well as his papers. So, yes the other driver needs to be physically present also at the time of signing the documents.

We're flying into Sanford with Travel City so I think we'll have Dollar car hire. Will try and add drivers locally on the 192. Anyone know of a Dollar office near the 192/US27?

Yes - Dollar have a small depot just by the Rodeway Inn on the 192 - it's just past the Celebration exit going eastbound and just before the I4 flyover.

We have always rented through Dollar and both myself and hubby named to drive. Hubby goes to Dollar desk with both driving licences whilst I wait outside with cases and children. They have never asked to even see me, let alone for me to sign documents. On all occasions we flew into Sanford. Does this mean I wasn't insured to drive?
