I agree with the others here - we'd love to put these things in our villas but really would not want the insurance hassles as the actions of a few litigious guests spoil it for the rest of us.

I would have thought you might find it impossible to get someone to cover you insurance wise for this kind of equipment in a short term rental home and I for one would not be prepared to cover the personal liability that might arise if someone misused the equipment and sued me.

The villa next door to one of our villas on Westridge has an exercise bicycle in the master bedroom ( that was before it was sold..so I'm not sure if the new owner got it with the villa)

Not sure why anyone would want to use it whilst on holiday, you get enough exercise walking round the parks and shops, but then again I remember a long time ago when folks used to say why have a gameroom when you have all the parks out there for entertainment and now many are putting them in.

George.. you dont need to exercise your right arm on holiday, it gets enough right here on the forum with your avatar

It's interesting that you say that CJ because that makes me wonder where the line would be drawn (insurance and litigation wise) between an injury from games room equipment and an injury from home gym type equipment.

Home gym and games room equipment aren't a million miles away from a pool. We all have a pool, along with the relevant safety notices, alarms, disclaimers, etc. so at what point do things change from being OK to being a liability?

I ask because at some point I did want to go the way of a home gym type set-up but having read this thread it does sound like a complete minefield.

Never seen anyone ask for anything like this as most people go on holiday to relax! That said, there is a real insurance issue (particularly as people who weren't used to using this sort of equipment with no idea of safe use might be tempted) here with all sorts of potential injuries.

No matter how many disclaimers you have, people are still able to sue you because, perhaps, you missed one vital word out of your disclaimer. I don't think many Florida home owners would be able to afford the risk factor.

I think Centre Parcs probably have a huge liability insurance of the type an individual Florida home owner would never be able to afford.

There are gyms around the area (Celebration has an excellent one) with trained instructors and supervision. Far better to send guests there I would think.

    Blott,

I do relax on holiday, but keeping fit to me is like having a shower or cleaning my teeth, its it part of my daily routine, would you not shower or clean your teeth every day just because you are on holiday??

I don't want to leave my family and go to a gym!! I want to be able to do a half hour on the treadmill in the comfort of my villa, and as Im a trained personal trainer I do not need supervision!!

Maybe hiring one is the way to go - with my villa owners permission of course

Well I can get sued if someone trips in my house or garden.....so anything in a home can get you sued...but if you look at it.....not many people are sued if they rent......its just that the more things you add....the chances of something happening becomes more likely.......and I would say having a pool is a needed risk when owning a rental......where maybe other things are not.......

Our daughter begged us to put a treadmill in the garage of our home so that she could use it when she was in Florida but after reading about the problems that could arise with gym equipment bikes etc we have told her she will have to use the gym at Bahama Bay.

Swimming is good exercise and there are pools in the villas. Or you could do the real thing run/jog........early in the morning. I lived in HK and we used to train at 6.30, lovely and peaceful and not too warm. Not sure you would want to get up that early! [}]

Thanks but I hate swimming and getting up early enough to miss the heat in August is just not the way to go for me, but thanks anyway
