    Hi all,
Thought I would join in with this one as I suffer from really bad jeg lag when I get home from Florida. Is it safe to drive after taking Melatonin on the night flight back to the UK? Also with all the press re: DVT is it advisable to 'knock yourself out' with Melatonin and not get up to exercise? I know there is a GP on the forum, so he might be able to help.

Thanks all - If only there was a wonder cure. Why do some people suffer more than others??[msncry]

I'd also be interested to know if you would be ok to drive after taking melatonin before the night flight home to Manchester? Or would it be safer not to take it until the first night at home?
I plan to try it when I come home from my next trip in September.

Hi we took after going to Las Vegas and the first night home took it and woke up a bit groggy in the morning but back to normal after that.

You can buy Melatonin in 1,2 or 3 mg doses it does state do not take more than 3mg. I tried 1 then 2mg and found 2mg works.

It cost around $4-$6 for 90 tablets

ALso for all our pain killers, Lopermide (Immodium) etc we buy over in the states as a lot cheaper and you do not have to much around with packets of 12. I have a list to bring back with me for friends. Customs must think us junkies!

I bought a load of Ibuprofen for my back at Publix in boxes of 100's.
You aren't allowed to buy more than 2 packs of 16 in the UK without a prescription, same as Paracetamol.

[/quote]If I were you I wouldn't take it on the flight at all.

First, it's not good for you to be zapped out for hours on end, uncomfortable and in a sitting position, when you should be moving around a bit on the plane.

Second, if you're driving straight after you get off the plane without having had a full night's sleep, you may find you feel extra sleepy.

I'd wait until you get home until it's bedtime and then take your Melatonin so that you can get a proper (and comfortable!) night's sleep and wake up feeling refreshed the next morning rather than in zombie mode.

Moving away from the subject slightly, I buy advil liquid gels in the US big size. You can buy Nurofen (96) over the counter in Boots some chemists do not like to sell you too many!. (I find Advil gels better).

Sorry to differ, but the answer to your question is a guarded YES. If you take one Melatonin, its blood levels after 10 hours will be low enough for you to be perfectly safe to drive...certainly safer than driving while struggling with jet lag. So, I suggest you take the melatonin as you start for the airport - as we do. The wait at MCO plus the 8-hour flight will settle you nicely and you will be in a good shape to drive on arrival at Manchester. But, avoid all alcohol on the flight.
