    'Resort Only' Monorail

If outside residents are visiting a Disney Resort (say the Contemporary Resort) for shopping / dining on a 3-hour visitors' parking permit, will they be allowed to use the local 'resort only' monorail briefly as long as they are able to get back to their car within the stipulated 3 hours? Or will they be asked for an ID every time they try to get on or off the train?

Provided you have a multi day ticket you can use the transport system free of charge. If not then they can turn you away from the monorail. I have never been issued with the '3 hour permits' and would ignore the 3 hour rule anyway. The only time they really enforce that rule and check id is duuring very busy times like easter, xmas etc.

We are actually going at a relatively quiet time, 10 days after Easter. We will have 7-day hoppers and so I guess that we will be all right.

We used the bus from AK to the Grand Floridian and then the resort monorail to MK-we weren't asked to show any tickets or any ID.

We have never been asked to show any resort ID when we have been staying there and using Disney transportation. The only checkpoints we have encountered was at the car parks for the resorts, and I guess they don't want people who are going to the parks trying to blag free parking at the resorts. Even then, in January we were just having a drive around the Disney property and hadn't realised River Country had shut. We got stopped at the checkpoint on the way into the Fort Wilderness campground and I said to the CM that we were just wanting to drive up to River Country to see what it was like and to see if it was worth going to. He looked at me as if I was a little stupid and then he said, "oh you want to check out Fort Wilderness, okay just drive on up to reception."!

It is probably just not cost-effective for the staff to screen ID's at non-busy times, and so what if a few guests wander between resorts.

    Best wishes,

That's good. Then I can put my plan to good use. We plan to visit Magic Kingdom over 2 days to give the kids a chance at several turns on their favourite rides. I'll look at the park schedule closer to our visit time next spring and arrange the two MK visits in such a way that the SECOND of those two days falls on a day with the SpectroMagic parade on. Then we will do 70% of MK on the first day and finish the remaining 30% by lunchtime on the second. We can then get return stamps, go back to the villa and get a bit of rest. In the evening, we will return to WDW but this time drive to the Contemporary Resort, telling the security guy there that we are shopping and/or dining there. He'll give us a 3-hour visitor's car park which we will display on the windscreen. But on entering the resort, we will get on the monorail, wait until it reaches the main entrance of MK and get off to watch the parade. Afterwards, we can avoid the humongous returning crowd and join the smaller queue for the "resort only" monorail, return to the Contemporary Resort and pick up our car, still well within their 3-hour limit. Do you think this will work?

No-Nostromo-I think your plan is doomed to failure!-LOL!

You've posted it on the most popular villa site going-so every man and his dog are going to be doing the exact same thing-lol[

Would you like me to delete it?-LOL!

Only kidding-we thought about doing that on a future visit-so let us know how it goes.

Shuffling along in that crowd at the end of a long day for an hour or more-was a nightmare-but Spectromagic was still well worth it!

Well, I am not selfish. I realised that others might get the idea, but then I have found useful hints on this site and so it is only fair that I give out any ideas that I get myself. But I gathered by your reaction that there was a bit of grudging appreciation on your part; am I right?

Nice plan Nostromo, my only suggestion is to llok at WL rather than CR. This will in no way allow for a quicker exit, but it is beautiful sailing across the lake between the resort and MK and a lot more special than the monorail, as you can do this at other times. Also depending what time you headed back if you hun around for longenough (perhaps enjoying a beer or a cocktail in the bar) you may catch the Electric Water Pageant as well. The only thing may be the timing as the WL is the third place that the pageant goes to, but you could check on your way through the timing of it.

    Best wishes,

    Euan
