We tend to fly Virgin and touch wood they have always been fine for us.

My wife flew BA for the first time only last week with her brother who is a BA Gold Card Member and the flight and the crew were great on the way out

My wife is not the best of travellers, as she was sitting in Ecconomy and her brother was in Business the crew allowed her to sit in Business just during take off and landing

However on the way back when she asked the crew if this would be possible, even though business was half empty, including the seat next to her brother, she was told "no"

In addition as it was her brother's birthday she asked if the crew could put out an announcement that it was his birthday.

As nothing had been mentioned during the flight, when she left the plane she said that she was rather disappointed and asked why there was no "birthday wish" during the flight, only to be told "why would the crew and the pilot want to wish her brother happy birthday"

Needless to say she will be thinking twice about travelling with them again.

hehe isnt it strange how people's attitudes to the same airline are so different, i guess it comes down your own personal flights, But for the life of me i cant understand how anyone can enjoy flying economy with virgin for the money you pay and the seat you get they are way OVER priced(i am talking economy only remember)

Dunno what happened with you lal on Air France but in economy which we always fly the seat width and legroom was amazing

I am not talking comfort Im talking safety, Air France pilots are an arrogant dangerous bunch in my opinion, they refuse to use the universal ATC language of English all the time especially when on French ATC (which you may say is their choice - it is not what ATC worldwide is all about, all aircraft need to speak English so that all planes around them all know what each other is doing and where they are) and many accidents and near misses have occurred because of this , therefore I personally would not fly with them ever!! Just my view though

I have flown with BA on a few occasions out to the states, both in Economy and Club. Neither seemed to make much difference with the crew attitude. It seems to be the same on all flights (recently did Barcelona with them).

They just all seem to have this air of grace about them and look and speak to you if your at a lower level than them!!

Virgin or BMI (european/domestic) for me, everytime without question!![8D]. Although Easyjet and Buzz (when it was around) are also good in my estimation.

We tend to use BA or Virgin as we like to fly direct from Gatwick.

Last January I had the plesure of flying Virgin economy to Orlando, it was the second Virgin/Orlando departure that morning, the first was completely full, on our flight the rear cabin on the 747-400 was only about a third occupied so we could all spead out and I had the middle bank of 4 seats to myself. Shame you cannot put the armrests completely up so they don't stick in your shoulders.

I've just booked with Continental for August; Manchester to Orlando via Newark. I flew Manchester to Salt Lake some time ago with Continental (via Newark again) and I remember them being pretty good. If this thread is still running in September I will post a follow-up on Continental's service.

Our rule of thumb is that we don't mind who so long as the price is right. We can put up with most things if it's a significant saving, so we can spend it on what we want to. Having said that, last choice would be BA, very closely followed by Air France. Never had much problem with the US carrier's. We normally fly Delta, as we're now on the next rung of their air-miles club,
which does pay off - a business seat upgrade on the way out last time

I have flown Virgin to Florida and they were very good. I have also flown American Trans Air and would never do that again! Had to refuel in Gander, we had a sandwich, no film and no free drinks - plane broke down taxing out to the runway so had to get off and wait 24 hours to repair it - but then again it all adds to the experience! I'm going with Air Atlanta Europe in October and would imagine that it won't be as good as Virgin but it's only 9 hours and as long as it gets me there in one piece I don't care!!!! (plus it only cost me £189 as opposed to Virgin's £488 - more spending money for me!!!!)

Scheduled airlines are the major national airlines like British Airways, Virgin, American Airlines, Air France etc that fly from many airports to destinations all over the world. You can book flexible flights on flexible dates for multiple destinations eg London to New York to Chicago on to San Francisco and back to Manchester.

Charter Airlines, like My Travel, Britannia etc have a restricted number of flights on fixed routes. Normally flights are for either 1 or two weeks duration.

Generally charter flights are cheaper but have less room. The measurement you refer to is usually the seat pitch - which is the leg room between your seat and the seat in front. On charter flights it can be as low as 25 inches although most transatlantic flights have 29 inches. Scheduled airlines have a minimum of 31 inches.

Sanford is where charter flights go to in Florida , Scheduled flights go to Orlando and a number of other destinations in Florida – Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale etc. Sanford is a bit further from Kissimmee but not a lot. The problem with both airports is that all the European direct flights tend to arrive mid-afternoon and it is a matter of luck how long you take to clear either airport.
