    Is Florida the Sunshine State??

Chicago Sun Times June 24 2004

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- License plates proclaim Florida the Sunshine State, but the National Weather Service says when it comes to catching rays, it comes in a distant sixth.

Arizona ranks at the top, followed by California, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas, according to the weather service.

Florida has more days where 20 to 70 percent of the sun is blocked by clouds than anywhere else in the continental United States, weather officials said. Experts said warm water surrounding the state, high humidity and a long rainy season make for cloudy skies.

''We ought to call ourselves the Partly Cloudy State instead of the Sunshine State,'' said Miami-based meteorologist Jim Lushine. ''But it probably wouldn't get the Chamber of Commerce's vote.''

But there is a bright side -- southern Florida is consistently warmer than anywhere else in the continental United States, officials said. Over a year, Key West has a mean temperature of 78.1 degrees.

Outside of Florida, the only place that comes close is Yuma, with 75.3 degrees. Most of the nation hovers between the 50s and 60s. AP

    Interesting..................

Lal, in Nevada, and to a lesser extent Arizona and New Mexico, summers can be too hot to stay outdoors all day. If you have been to Las Vegas, you'll know what I mean. Also, Walt Disney might have considered those states too sparsely populated to try and establish a massive base for entertainment business, which needs huge local support before it can get off the ground. Perhaps that is the reason why Florida was considered more appropriate, having been popular with tourists already.

Las Vegsa feels like a furnace outside. It is really easy to suffer from dehydration because you do not realise how much you are sweating as the sweat is dey as soon as it hits the surface of your skin. We tries to drink plenty of water but my sister-in-law still managed to end up in hospital suffering from dehydration and having to be rehydrated by a drip.[msnoo]

I was in Las Vegas once in the month of August and it was 110, and weather so dry you couldnt even walk a block without rasping for air.
But i think the weather in the winter in Florida is much better as it has snowed in Las Vegas so all in all Florida is the place to go for great weather!!
