Lots of villas include free broadband internet access (I know all our villas do). Have you considered a villa as opposed to a hotel. This is just one of the many advantages they have over hotels.

You could use it to dial up to your UK ISP.

Pieman, if the phone system you mention is the usual 'Freetalk' one then, yes the phone does have a slot for plugging in a cable and connecting to the internet - assuming of course the laptop has a built in modem. However, this would be at normal dial up speed rather than broadband etc. Can't comment on the free access providers but presumably these are the same speeds. We have broadband both here and in the Florida and I imagine the old technology must be very frustrating if you have to go back to it

Hotels in US are often free, hotels in UK you usually pay. Fell asleep at the computer once and woke up a few hours later to a £90 bill! As John says an increasing number of villa owners have PCs and high speed internet access provided free for their guests - another example of why the hotels just can't compete - on price or on facilities provided.

we haven't got internet access in our villa, so can we get free/cheap internet at local libraries??

Most libraries offer free internet access, but only for a limited time. The one i have used before is next to the Publix at the end of the 192 just before you get to the 27, they gave 30 mins free access, but you have to queue sometimes. I prefer to go across the road from the library and pay $5 an hour at the Best Western, and the connection is faster.
