Some of our previous guests 'donated' two strollers to our home so I wonder if they did the same thing as you? [msnsad]

After thinking i had prepaid for a child seat this year, only to find it was only a request and had to pay $79 to hire a grubby looking thing that took me a while to suss out (baby was in it, but not really secure until i had gotten a real good look at it the next day, but with long flight etc we just wanted to get away), i am considering taking our own the next time we go.

Couple of things though. Obviously i would be driving to the airport therefore i would not be able to wrap the seat up until we got to the airport. What do you suggest i wrap it in to keep in secure? Bubble wrap and black bags??

Secondly, the next time we go we will 99% be flying Newcastle to Gatwick and then Gatwick to McCoy all with British Airways.
By doing that we can check our cases in at Newcastle and not have to think about them again until we get off in Orlando. In a case like this, what happens about Strollers and car Seats?

Would the Car seat be checked all the way through like our suitcases?

Would we hand over the stroller at the gate at newcastle and pick it up again at gatwick for use while we wait for the second flight and then hand it over again at the gate at Gatwick and pick it up again at orlando?

    Hi Ujpest Doza

This is the usual route we take and we have always been able to check the car seat in at Newcastle and pick it up in Orlando. You have to hand it in at the outsized baggage area which is just after the newsagents. The stroller is handed in at the gate in Newcastle and then you can get it back as soon as you get off the plane at Gatwick, then hand in again just before you board the plane to Orlando. At Orlando International you get it back as soon as you get off the plane and you are allowed to keep it with you while transfering from the satalight terminal to the main terminal even though you have to hand your luggage back in, only to have to queue to collect it alover again in the main terminal.

I've seen them not wrapped at all, just labelled. They seem to come out OK at the other end! If you want to put it in a binsack and stick it up, just remember that you can't take scissors with you in your hand luggage, only your hold luggage.

Once you've handed your car seat in, it gets treated just the same way as your luggage and should follow you on all your flights.

Normally you hand in strollers at the plane door on the ramp and they're usually waiting for you there when you arrive too. Just make sure you get it labelled clearly and securely as there's usually more than one of the same type/colour.

Sorry Blott but you hardly ever get strollers back at the plane door when you arrive at your destination. In Orlando you get it back at the first baggage reclaim after immigration with odd sized baggage, as do car seats
