Weekie Wachee

Off the beaten track for most Orlando visitor but well worth the effort. On the West coast and North of Orlando is this little gem of an outing. There are two parks next to each other one full of wild life including Manatees and the other a natural sping water park with artifical beach. My family have been there twice and on both occasions had a fabulous time. Check them out on the web.

Is this the Weekie Wachee I have been to on many occasions, Precious?? That one had real life mermaids performing in an underwater theatre. We were there in May and the mermaids were still there as they have been for many years ( this is one of Floridas oldest attractions) It did look a bit run down however and its website seems to have disappeared. When were you there and saw manatees there? I am wondering if you mean the Homasassa Springs park ( which does have manatees) or whether they have closed the mermaid attraction down at Weekee Wachee and replaced it since May??

I do hope they have not closed the mermaids. My 2 girls are so looking forward to this as they are obsessed with mermaids and have been practising holding their breath underwater.

Breathe again Ruth. Mermaids are still there. Found the website- www.weekiwachee.com ( was spelling it wrong) There is a mermaid with big boobs on the home page. Terry very appreciative!! Think Precious must mean Homosassa with the manatees!!

Ruth, if they want to actually BE mermaids not just watch mermaids, they have to go to mermaid camp. That is on at specific times and I am not sure if it is on at Easter or if it is just in the summer. Have a look at the website and see if there is anything on it. If not, I did a piece on it which will be hidden somewhere in the old threads. I think it is just swimming and dressing up and I dont think they let them use the breathing tubes ( compensation culture and all that!!)

Thanks for the info Caroline. Problem is next Easter youngest daughter will only be 5 so looks like they will have to wait another couple of years to go. By then they may no longer want to be mermaids
