Looks like the BBC may know more than the car rental companies then as they are not aware of any extra charges at the moment.

Ooops - you might be right there. That will teach me to dip into the forums without reading things properly [msnsad]

Never mind, you could be right! We'll just have to wait and see what answer Tezz gets from the BBC.

    John & Blott,
Let's hope if it is to do with British Airports they use some (or a lot!) of the proceeds on Teeside (International!!) Airport. Turned up there at 4am to catch a 6am Amsterdam flight en route to Orlando in April and apart from two other lost souls we had the waiting area to ourselves. No staff - no cafeteria - no magazine stall - nothing. The only thing International about it is the planes occasionally fly to other countries. All the staff/ other passengers arrived about 5:15. If they tell me to get out of bed in the middle of the night to get there 2 hours ahead of take off(which was 15 mins. late) I expect that there should be at least a skeleton staff to provide services and information. At least we have one decent airport in the N.East.

Could this be what you are on about

Total taxes, fees, charges and surcharges. This includes the government imposed September 11th Security Fee of $2.50 per segment. GBP 63.40

This appeared on a friends booking form for a Virgin Flight

We never had that on ours so its a newish type thing
