    portable dvd player

Has anyone taken their own portable dvd player on the plane to watch their own movies/cartoons? I was wondering how long the battery would last on the plane or if you can plug it in anywhere. We are travelling Virgin in a couple of weeks and the films and cartoons dont last for the whole flight or repeat themselves and my 5 year old gets a bit bored so i thought could take some films and cartoons for him to watch. Any idea of best prices would be a help as well.

We always take our lap tops and play DVD's on the aircraft, I think portable dvds would be much the same? As for pluging it in most aircraft only have lap top conections and I think Im right in saying not always in economy.

    Chicken or beef?

Our son bought a portable DVD player in Orlando at Christmas and used it on the plane coming home. The battery lasts about 2.5-3 hours. We flew premium economy with Virgin and they did not have anywhere for us to plug it in, only in 1st Class for peoples lap-tops.

On BMI and BA they now have economy plus cabins BA's is called World Traveler Plus and BMI's is called New Economy and both have lap top conections, so Virgin needs to get its act together - we are going Premium in August!![8D]

We use ours all the time, but have a spare battery unit so it lasts for most of the flight

We obtained a spare battery for our Panasonic DVD from an American Website for £30 that lasts 4-5 hrs. This compared to an English price of £100. The battery that came with the original purchase was supposed to last 2.5 hrs but we never got more than 1.5 hrs.

I used my laptop, plugged in last year, We flew Continental and I think on their planes rows 18 to 23 have laptop connections. There is a site where you can check on which planes have what, seatguru . com I think. It shows seating plans and electrical points/tv, etc

General rule is that they are, but just latley electrical goods are
coming down in price in the UK. The other thing is if you buy one
in the US, the power lead/Charger will be for US power and not UK

As well as the power lead you'll probably find that it will only take Region 1 dvds as well. We bought our daughters a couple of years ago but she prefers it so she keeps a selection of dvds that she adds to when we go to Walmart or her favourite ones she buys when we are in the States so she has a different choice.
Her battery lasts for around 4 hours which we find is long enough with the films on the screen as well. Hers also came with a car power lead so when we are in the car it doesnt use up the power.
