Poor road signs within Disney property

The purple road signs within Disney property may be very clear to read, but they do not always appear where they should be and can be confusing very often. Here are some examples:

If one turns from Sherberth Road into Osceola Parkway and wants to head beyond Disney towards Interstate-4, the exit signs appear too early, indicating one to take a very long and unnecessary detour. In fact that sign is only suitable for those going West on I-4 towards Tampa (although it does not say so). To go on I-4 east towards I-Drive, Sea World, Universal etc, one has to remain on the Osceola Parkway and wait until the next indication for the interstate, which is the usual green road sign well beyond Disney property.

Likewise, while coming the other way (ie from I-4 west along Osceola Parkway towards WDW, there are two places where the 'Next Right' sign appears to the left of the 'Straight Ahead' one! I wonder what sense this makes.

If one is driving back from MGM, Epcot or even MK to the villas, a logical route would be to use W Buene Vista Drive to turn right into Osceola Parkway following signs for Animal Kingdom / Lodge. But this important sign does not appear until just before the actual turn so that it is all too easy to make a mistake and go towards the All Star Sports resort.

If an outsider is trying to find a MK resort like Polynesian or Contemporary, the signposts in the World Drive are few and far between. This can be a special problem at night when the buildings are not easily visible from a distance.

we had the similar problem trying to find typhoon lagoon. what we have been doing in the past is heading for world drive then driving round in ever decreasing circles til we find it. on this last visit we finally worked out that its near to downtown disney, so we head for those signs and the decreasing circles are a lot smaller!!

i wonder if its not part of the scheme of things to make joe public drive round everywhere so they get interested in visiting some of the fantastic looking resorts you pass?[8D]

I had the same experience coming out of Epcot once and ended up on the I-4 way too far north. I did wonder if it is Disney's way of avoiding road congestion by spraying traffic over all their road capacity when the parks close, or a ploy to get you off Disney's property as fast as possible to reduce their wear and tear.

I like your idea Trev about sending you past all the resorts. I wonder if they've ever got it wrong and created a kind of gyratory system that had people trapped for days?

    Trev,
If you can find your way round Washington (Tyne & Wear one!) you shouldnt have much problem with Disney. Whoever thought up the road system & signs there must have emigrated to Florida!

We also had a hard time getting out of Disney. We were looking to go south on 192, but the signs just were not clear. Not a pleasant experience after a long day at the parks, having to drive with my husband!

Glad to hear we are not the only people who have come unstuck with the singage in Disney. It's not too bad now as we have been enough times to know our way around without using the signs but a few years ago we would regularly end up not quite where we wanted to be [msneek].
